Wow. Adachitoka even managed to make that a-hole Takemikazuchi somewhat sympathetic.
He still doesn't deserve Kiun, but get that deserving isn't how the shinki relationship functions.

Bishamon and Shikki are kickass, and Yato is practically a responsible adult.
I missed not seeing much of Iki and the Disastrous Duo.

El cielo ha sentenciado a muerte a Bishamon pues creen que liberó a la shinki rebelde para que esta pudiera pelear contra el cielo una vez más. Solo Yato sabe la verdad, que Bishamon solo quiere derrotar al hechicero sin arriesgar a una de sus shinki de nuevo. Es por ello que el dios interviene en la lucha y está dispuesto a obligar a Takemikazuchi a escucharlo. Pero el dios de los rayos está interesado únicamente en la batalla pues la ve como la oportunidad perfecta de obtener un recipiente sagrado y que mejor para lograr su objetivo que pelear con Yukine, el recipiente sagrado de Yato.
¿Quieres proteger algo incluso si fue abandonada por el paraíso?
Vale, para entender un esta reseña necesitamos recapitular un poco. Una Shinki como se nos explicó en el primer tomo, es un alma pura que murió de una forma injusta. Los dioses toman estas almas y les entregan un nombre para que dejen de vagar y desde ese momento se convierten en su arma divina, y así como el nombre lo indica, esta alma se puede transformar en una arma que ayudará a combatir al dios. Desde el momento en el que el dios le entrega un nombre a esa alma, ella y el dios quedarán conectados de una manera muy íntima.
Ahora bien, hay dioses que tratan a sus shinkis como meros objetos, pero hay otros que los tratan como sus iguales, como sus amigos, como su familia y mientras más compenetrados estén la shinki y el dios, más poderosos serán en el campo de batalla. Pero hay unas pocas shinkis que llevan un poco más lejos las cosas y sienten tal afecto por su dios que están dispuestos a sacrificar sus "vidas" con tal de salvar a su dios. Así que cuando un arma divina se sacrifica de buena fé para proteger a su dios, esta muere y regresa como un recipiente sagrado, una nueva arma con increíbles poderes que además se compenetra al cien con su dios.

Hasta este momento en el manga hay solo dos recipientes de los que se tiene conciencia, uno es Kazuma y el otro Yukine. Que Kazuma sea un recipiente sagrado no es sorpresa para nadie pues es el shinki de la gran Bishamon, la diosa de la guerra, pero que Yukine sea el recipiente sagrado de Yato, un dios venido a menos si que es una afrente para muchos dioses, sobre todo para Takemikazuchi quien siempre ha querido poseer un recipiente sagrado.

Una vez explicado esto podemos seguir. La misión de Takemikazuchi es obtener sin importar que un
recipiente sagrado pues para él sus shinki son un mero objeto del cual puede disponer, así que usa de escusa la batalla contra Bishamon para atacar a Yato y a Yukine aunque en el proceso exceda el poder de sus shinkis. Aquí esto me ha parecido bastante perturbador pues hasta ahora solo habíamos visto dioses que sentían un verdadero afecto por sus armas y ver a este dios al que no le importa sacrificar sus armas ha sido acogedor pues recordemos que las shinki se vuelven parte del dios.

This continues on with the battle of the gods against Bisha and Yato and her shinji try tp help also. Bisha isn't in it much at all and though there are some fights this volume concentrates on the who, what,why of both the gods and their shinji.There is also a lot about a newer character trying to understand how to become a blessed vessel. I didn't quite get everything that was going on and since last volume am hoping this arc ends soon and we can get back to what we had in the earlier volumes

Like everyone else, I'm tiring of this arc, being more of a fan of the slice-of-life moments. Although there are smatterings of character development and history reveals, which both kept me reading.

In volume 17 we see each of or main characters trying to get through their battles. Kazuma tries to find Bishamon with the help of Hiyori and Kuraha. And Bishamon finally reaches the Crafter. Nana learns about Bishamons' intent in using her, and learns something she didn't expect. Yato and Takemikazuchi's battle continues, while we learn Take and Kiun's past.
Takemikazuchi- god of thunder- had been reincarnated once before and his surviving shinki were intent on preventing him from using his monstrous power.
Takemikazuchi uses his ability, while Yukine swears to protect Yato and bring this battle to an end.

There are many action shots in this volume as well, Adachitoka's art and layouts impressive as always. They show great momentum. The shots of the battle between Yato and Takemikazuchi in his lightning form are extremely well illustrated. Take's lightning form takes on that of a dragon, with his shinki seeing him as a young child, sword in hand, really showing how long he held back his rage. Yato and Yukine bring his 'tantrum' to an end and Kiun finds resolve anew to serve his master and remain by his side.

Another solid volume that begins winding down this arc. Looking forward to reviewing volume 18!!

The unrelenting action from the previous volume continues as the heavens continue to wage war against Bishamonten and her newest shinki, the rage-filled Nana. The only God who is fighting by her side is dear Yato and his long-suffering but powerful Yukine. Yato is trying to make a (rather futile) attempt at getting the powerful warrior God, Takemi Kazuchi see reason and understand that Bishamon hasn’t really committed an act of high treason against the Gods but is trying to defeat the powerful Crafter himself. But Takemi is hungry for the thrill of war and despite the constant warnings of his Thunder Blade shinki, Kiun has decided to grind Yato to dust, in spectacular style.

This volume gives us a glimpse into Takemi’s troubled backstory and his fractured relationship with his shinkis, especially Kiun. As always, an underestimated Yato rises splendidly to the occasion and displays many instances of being a wise and powerful God. This volume would have translated beautifully into a color-rich anime loaded with spectacular action sequences.

There were so many panels in this that were so breathtaking, especially the battle scenes between Yato and Takemikazuchi, as well as Bishamon and the other gods and Yato's father. It was look so stunning animated and I know that the manga only has 2 seasons and I don't think they cover this arc but damn. I hope that the anime gets a season 3/rebooted but damn... there are so many great moments that deserve to be animated.

That aside, the story is getting more and more intense and honestly a bit heartbreaking, seeing how fucked everything is right now. Seeing Bishamon fight so hard to get to Yato's dad and him trying to turn the shinki against her was such an fucked up yet interesting scene. I wasn't expecting the Stray to know the god's secret and still be standing. I wonder if she was able to survive it because she is a stray.. I don't know if Bishamon will be able to survive or beat Yato's dad. I'm really scared for her. I'm also scared for Kazuma. He stung Bishamon for the first time and I have no clue what to expect when he finally catches up to Bishamon. Seeing the talk he had with Kiun years before this and the ways that they viewed and treated their masters is very interesting, now considering their actions now.

I wasn't expecting to feel sad for Takemikazuchi but learning his backstory and how his shinki lied to him made me a bit sad. I'm not sure if they did the right thing because it feels like they almost doomed him to repeat the mistakes of his predecessor, just in a different way and at the expense of himself and his shinki. The moment where Kazuma and Kiun are talking and they argue about whether the other views their master as their property... oy.

I love Yato and Yukine so much. So many of their moments just got me in the heart, especially seeing how much they try to protect each other. Every time Yato is proud of Yukine and his ability and strength, my heart soars. Also Yukine doing everything he can to protect Yato because he refuses for him to die?? Him thinking back on Yato staring fondly at his shrine while he is thinking this?? Yato calling Yukine "my boy"??? I can't handle this. I also loved the moment where Kazuma makes an incantation for Yato and Yukine against Takemikazuchi. Also the moment where Kazuma learns Hiyori prayed for Yato to help Bishamon and realizing that they still have allies...

This series is so good and I have no clue how things are going to progress which stresses me out. However, I love these characters and the way that everything is expanding and I'm excited to see where everything goes.

Veena is being attacked and trying to reach her goal. The Stray is not helping matters at all. Simultaneously, Yato is fighting Takemikazuchi, and it's quite a tough battle for him.

During all of this, Hiyori is trying to find something useful to do. She's trying to find them, and trying to help, but she isn't really doing much yet. Then there's Kazuma, who is on a mission to save Veena. His commitment to Veena is impressive, and I really do like their relationship. But, he's also committed to sacrificing himself if he has to, in order to save her. It's a bit unhealthy, and does not look very good for him at the moment.

In the last part of the volume, we get to see the history between Takemikazuchi and his shinki Kiun. It's rather dark, which is to be expected. His and Kazuma's relationship with their master is unsettlingly similar.

I absolutely love this series. I just need more of it.

Tiap kali aku merasa salah satu karakter di manga ini jahat/menyebalkan, ujung-ujungnya pasti nggak jadi sebal karena ternyata selalu ada alasan, ada backstory yang melandasi sifat/tindakan karakter itu, yang menjadikan dia karakter yang kuat dan kompleks. Noragami ini seriously punya character development yang bagus banget dan konsisten, that's one of the reasons why I'm into it so much lately. It's just so, soo goood.

War ziemlich langweilig, weil eigentlich nur die Götter gekämpft haben. Das beste war, dass gezeigt wurde, dass Shinki nicht autoamtisch zu Dämonen werden müssen, wenn sie über ihren Tod bescheid wissen. Das gibt mir Hoffnung.

ich hab jetzt schon geschaut, was in band 18 passiert und meine Fresse. Das wird emotional. Es kann sein, dass mich Noragami emotional bricht, wie Shiki und Puella Magi .. Ich mein ... Wie Yukine wohl gestorben ist... Das ist schrecklich o-O

I took a little break from this series when the monthly volume releases slowed down as we caught up with Japan. Before picking up this volume to read, I reread the series up to this point. There are so many little details that I missed the first time around. I love the depth of character and world development, the beautiful artwork, and of course, an exciting and engaging story. Highly recommended!

El dios del trueno Takemikazuchi y Yato continuan su batalla al igual que Bishamonten contra los otros dioses que la creen una traidora. Las shinkis de todos han sufrido varias heridas, pero ninguno cede ante el otro y esto solo provoca que el Hechicero gane ventaja sobre Bisha y su shinki salvaje.

Nana inclusive ve cómo murió y decide que no importa, que ha de pelear hasta morir una segunda vez si eso significa llevarse consigo varias cabezas de los dioses en el cielo. Creo que ella, pese a solo ser un personaje incidental, es tan fuerte como cualquier otro recipiente sagrado y su odio y resentimiento son equiparables a los del Hechicero. La única diferencia es que ella no lo oculta y prefiere ser libre por unos momentos antes que vivir encerrada en una caja.

En la segunda mitad del volumen vemos un poco más del pasado de Takemikazuchi y cómo en su anterior vida prácticamente fue asesinado por sus propias shinkis, ya que se estaba volviendo demasiado rebelde. Así pues, este “joven” Take ha crecido con limitaciones y sin la libertad de conocer sus poderes, probable razón por la que Kiun, la shinki con forma de dragón del trueno, no puede convertirse en un recipiente sagrado como lo hizo Yukine con Yato o Kazuma con Bisha. El volumen termina con él jurando lealtad a su dios, tenga razón o no.

Ahora bien, ya lo he dicho con anterioridad, pero la verdad es que me gusta muchísimo el vínculo que existe entre dioses y shinkis pues todos llevan una dinámica diferente. Todos hacen lo que creen conveniente para sus seres queridos pues, al final de cuentas, son parte de un clan o de una familia. Quizá no siempre tengan las respuestas adecuadas pero la intención siempre ha sido permanecer al lado de quienes les otorgaron un nuevo nombre y una nueva vida.

Otro capítulo lleno de preguntas existenciales y acción!!!
Primero las preguntas: por qué el papá de Yato tiene un báculo y le da direcciones a los dioses celestiales?
Después la acción: Bishamon con la nueva shinki es simplemente muy poderosa y badass!!! Le llegó hasta el “hechicero”. Es interesante que la shinki sabe el secreto de los dioses y fue lo suficiente fuerte como para no corromperse y terminar en un ayakashi… (eso nos da esperanzas por si alguna vez nuestro querido Yukine pasa por algo así, no?).
Yato intenta usar la inteligencia verbal para convencer a Take que Bishamon quiere matar al hechicero, no desafiar a los cielos, pero oh! a Take no le importa nada de eso, él quiere aprovechar una pelea así para obtener su recipiente sagrado… uno pensaría que egoísta de su parte aprovecharse de esto y llevar a sus shinkis al límite si es un dios celestial!!! Entonces nos meten toda esta explicación de cómo el murió una vez y al reencarnar lo mantuvieron siempre controlado, al grado que creció siempre preguntándose quién era si no lo dejaban ser el dios del trueno, si le estaban negando su propia esencia. Y bueno uno termina entendiendo al “malo”.
El tomo termina cardiaco de nuevo…

I figured we would get here eventually and I'm glad we did. This was the backstory volume I needed for Takemikazuchi and Kiun to make their battle with Yato and Yukine have weight. I really am enjoying seeing the many different kinds of relationships that the gods form with their shinki as it is a great vehicle for exploring people's relationships in general. It's as though each pairing is a case study almost. The first half of the volume focuses on Bishamon/Nana vs. Koto/Stray. This is really cool fight with some great intense moments as they finally have their confrontation. I've got to say, Kazuma's dive off the deep end for Veena is nerve wracking and I worry about where he's headed. Things are up in the air here, and I'm sold on it. I liked how Take's shinki were afraid of who they thought he would become, so they kept him from truly getting to be himself, and that Kiun finally taking Take's side and choosing to support him as who he is was a touching moment.
