"I looked at the uniform a moment longer, and I felt what some detectives refer to as a precognition of sorts. I felt something connecting in my head, and although it wasn't strong enough to grasp yet, it would come if it were pushed enough. Knowing that the empty bathroom would provide no clues, I placed the bagged uniform back where I had gotten it and went back to the party."....

Thomas has a job working security. Not his usual private investigator business. He took the job from the recommendation of his friend, Amir. The last couple cases have taken a physical toll on Thomas.

Thomas is hoping that new connections might finally help him solve the murder case involving his family. Someone doesn't want him to know the truth.

Amir's daughter, Aisha, was at the party Thomas was working. Has he stumbled upon a crime in progress? Dragged in unintentionally, Thomas must now try to solve this mess. From security job back to his real job in a flash.

Nicely written. Always a few surprises. This is the fourth and final book in this "Hard Boiled City" series. Thomas is a great character, with very interesting story lines. Novellas that can be read in one sitting. Great ending! The lingering questions are answered.

Thank you P.T. Reade

"A crossfire hurricane"

All the attributes of the detective thriller that I've come to expect from this author; plus the extra tension of the 'against the clock' events in the final pages. I defy you not to panic!

What did I like? Thomas Blume is the quintessence of a man that every woman want to cuddle and love to try to make everything all better! He has been stripped of everything he loves and is just fighting to find the guilty party to make them pay. It seems though that every time he tries to just keep his head up and keep going that he step in the proverbial pile of poopoo!

What will you like? A VERY well written and research book that continues to grow and develop as the pages turn. Kick ass action, remarkable characters that will live on beyond this book, mindboggling twist, and turns making it impossible to lay it down! With more chapters to come just be prepared for more astonishing, exhilarating and unbelievable compromises to come! This detective mystery will soon become one of your favorites….. Borrowed this from Kindle Unlimited.

A Compelling Thriller with a Surprise Twist

In the next episode, Thomas Blume is hired to perform security details at a social gathering for London’s moneyed citizens, but things begin to take a turn when a socialite and her friend are kidnapped, divulging some shocking secrets, political conspiracy, pretense, manipulation, and murder with a spin that will shock you to the core. From start to finish, this is a well written, attention grabbing story with great plots, dialogue, settings, and complex characters with their flaws and strengths, making for a unique, imaginative and dynamic page-turner.

This series of compact novels does not waste a word - there is no time to waste! The pace has to be maintained and in this fourth of series, the reader is not left disappointed. Each book would make it as a standalone novel but the underlying, tragic theme is always there.

Several reviews compare the author's style to the American greats of this genre, especially Raymond Chandler, but perhaps in a few decades people will be saying, "This novel evokes the same atmosphere as those of the great P T Reade from early in the century."

Possibly my favourite one yet. It had Blume being Blume, Remay being called in to help, Amir came clean, and progression on the hunt to find the truth behind his murdered family... all during an against-the-clock hunt for two kidnapped young women. What an action packed story. On to number five now...

I received this as part of the Library Thing giveaway.. Turned out to be a short fast paced story.. didn't notice that it was part 4 of a series but it still made sense as a standalone.

The story revolves around Thomas Blume ex-detective now working as a private investigator. While taking a short break from cases to recover physically he agrees to take on a job which he thinks would be boring and unchallenging. . His landlord convinces him to act as a bodyguard at a high society party for his daughter and her friend who happens to be a big business man's daughter. What should have been a boring one night job turns into something else altogether when he finds that the girls he was supposed to protect have been kidnapped. Now he is in a race against time to get the girls back.. But not all may be as it may seems.. Will Blume be able to unravel the plot??

I ended up wanting to read the earlier books just to get the backstory for the protagonist Thomas Blume

On the whole this seems to be a very readable and fast paced series that I now want to read through!!

I have received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is an easy-reading crime story. The plot is not very complicated, and there are just a few main characters. However, I quite enjoyed reading the book. The story unfolds in a natural way, there are some quite nice descriptions of scenery and the dialogues are meaningful. The only thing a bit disappointing is the ending. Somehow I felt there was something missing to sum up the story. But I see a lot of potential in this writer and I quite like the style of writing used in this book.
