Arden has always been an uncomfortable reminder of the sins of his mother, the renegade sorceress Igraine. Having fled her homeland, the conservative Theocracy of Gough, Igraine had vanished for years before showing up on her brother’s doorstep one dark night, heavily pregnant and desperately ill. Too physically frail to survive childbirth, Igraine died, taking the secret of Arden’s paternity with her to the grave. Growing up under his uncle’s disapproving eye
I thought this was a very creative, cute and exciting book!
This seems very much like a young adult book, but at the same time there are some parts of the book that are a bit dark, for example, one of the secondary characters has a rape scene. It isn't a very detailed rape scene but it's enough to be out of the YA area in my opinion.
The romantic relationship! Ugh! So cute! I thought the relationship between the two boys was very sweet.
The adventure and excitement...lots of scenes are a quite unrealistic, which is why I am calling this a Young Adult read.
The plot is actually pretty good! It was very exciting throughout the whole book, I always wanted to know more about our heroes.
After the first book is done, there is still plenty of things I'm left to wonder about.
I can't wait for the next book!
So! If you enjoy young adult m-m fantasy with shape shifters, dragons and magic, I think you will thoroughly enjoy this book.
