Rafe Garrett is NYC’s most talked-about billionaire—a ruthless negotiator, too handsome for his own good, and a man of … particular tastes.
Investigative reporter Ainsley Dumont has landed the assignment of a lifetime: prove that Rafe is behind the crooked development deal that’s threatening to ruin the careers of some of the country’s top political figures—including the President himself.
But as Ainsley gets closer to Rafe, sparks fly, and she has to balance her assignment—and her ethics—with the urge to forget who she is and be what Rafe wants. And what Rafe wants is so far outside her experience, she might lose herself … but it just might be worth it.
This is a really well written story, and it starts off really interesting. I would have given it 4 even 4 1/2 stars except for the part where the heroine is a weak and annoying. The author starts off with showing us that the h is very strong, opinionated, and not easily swayed. She's also working a job. Yet somehow, our H has such a magical mouth that within 20 minutes of meeting, she's not only accepted a ride home with him (after making it clear that saying 'No' to him would make him more interested in her) she's riding his c**k in the back of the limo, and doing everything she said she wasn't going to do. Right down to her answering the phone call at the end when 1 minute before she said she wouldn't answer his calls.
S.T.U.P.I.D.
Why, oh why, do authors feel that they have to make women so goddamn weak and hopeless? This story would have been sooooooooooo much better if the author had written the heroine with just a tiny fraction of strength and self-respect (which is what she made it sound like she was doing). Instead, the h is exactly like all the other floozies that drop at his feet, and how is that supposed to catch his attention, really? Oh that's right. She's got a unicorn p*ssy.
Le Sigh. Le eye rolls.
Those extremely annoying details aside, the story is well written and quite steamy. I just wish I didn't already hate the heroine.
This is a novella so obviously it's a short read. It does have a the draw to it; the draw the pulls you in and leaves you wanting the next episode.
In the first episode we meet Rafe our Hero and Ainsley our heroine. Ainsley is a undercover reporter trying to dig up dirt on Rafe, who is an accused crooked billionaire. It's Ainsley job to uncover all the crooked things he has done. Unfortunately her original plan to get close to some of his "friends and acquaintances" doesn't work like she plans. Sparks fly between Rafe and Ainsley. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
I have read quite of few serials in this genre but when I was asked to read and review this book I was intrigued by the premise. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised from the outset. Yes, this book has all the hot, steamy sexy scenes that you expect from this genre, but there is more. This is well written and actually grabbed my attention right from the outset. It is a quick read (I read it during my lunch hour) with a fast pace. I liked both characters. Ainsley is smart, independent and has an interesting "secret". Rafe is your typical dominant sexy alpha male but when they get together their chemistry is evident on the pages as the spar with one another for control. This promises to be an interesting series and I will be looking out for the next installment.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This did not influence the review and the thoughts expressed are my own.
