Death Love Lust

DEATH LOVE LUST.
Death is definite. Love is infinite. Lust is eternal.
In the end, death always wins. And what of the threads that remain? Love? Lust? The desire to feel both? The desire to return to the living and feel again? Because, despite death, the heart will forever pine for the love that once was; the love that was once tangible but now is reflected back only in memories and photographs. Both love and lust are stronger than death and will always linger long after life is pulled from us. Because of this we will always remain definite, infinite, and eternal.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

An assortment of delicious stories and poems that are sure to please!
As the title suggests, each piece of this collection involves a gruesome death, undying love, or a passionate sexual need. Some contain all three. Each author brought their own voice, their own style to this anthology and though every story contained the same central themes, they were each unique. Some brought tears, some brought a sense of longing, some brought terror, and some brought lust. Every work contained in this collection grasped me firmly and held me, riveted, to the page.
I was captivated from the start, each story and poem leaving me in a dreamy daze of contemplation. I recommend reading it in the dark.

Death Love Lust is a collection of poetry exploring the themes of Death, Love, or Lust, and how they are connected.

Some of the entries are short poems, while others are longer, more story-like, using characters in the exploration of Death Love and Lust.

Even if you don't necessarily read poetry, there is something everyone can enjoy in this anthology. And with authors like Jen L. Joyal, Aurelia Fray, Catherine Stovall and Lily Luchesi, among others, it's hard to find fault here.

I love anthologies, I could read just anthologies forever and probably be happy. I like meeting multiple characters, feeling through poems, and reading the unique voices the authors have. Death Love Lust was so unique when it comes to anthologies though, it's dark romance and I wasn't sure I would love any of it at first, but found myself enjoying every story and poem immensely. More that just death, love, and lust, there are incubus, ghosts, M/M and F/F relationships, grim reapers, and more. The stories were so unique, complete in their own way, and felt distinctly different. I looked at each one with fresh eyes, there was no blending together. I appreciated how the dark stories were mirrored by heartfelt ones, with poetry in between that brought the individual parts of the title into perspective and weaved eternal love through every word. I found myself loving the short stories I would never have reached for on my own, a personal favorite was The Devil's Dozen.

Some of the stories are just pages in lengths, others chapters, but each character is so easy to connect to. As soon as I accepted the odd pairings, and just accepted the tales of death, love and lust, it was easy to read and see from the character's perspective. It made me think a lot more than I expected as well, especially about eternal love, leaving an imprint before you go, and general lust between two when faced with some of the scenarios in the stories. Plus, I don't reach for a lot of supernatural anymore and I am so glad I did with this one, because I really enjoyed reading from the perspective of Death. There's such a wide variety in this and I definitely found myself rereading the poems and the darkly sexy shorts.

Death Love Lust was a really great collection and I felt touched on death, love, and lust all equally. I loved the darker aspect to it, the erotica wasn't nearly as much as I was expecting, and the overall tying factor of eternal love made the stories have so much depth and emotion.

Death, Love, Lust is a delectably delicious dark romance collection that you will not want to miss! Chalk-full of malevolent, passionate creatures including demons, ghosts, grim reapers, and even a succubus and incubus or two, the stories are sure to please! Every author spun their own unique tale and proudly distinguished themselves from each other. Not one was boring or alike. I have read several anthologies in my day, and personal experience has shown me that the majority of them contain stories that meld together or only have a few select pieces that are notable. However, Death, Love, Lust stood out to me in every way possible. It is truly a shining needle in an ever growing haystack.

I sincerely loved how there were dangerously eerie stories as well as deeply heartfelt ones that brought me close to tears. I felt such a deep connection with the characters, an element that I was never expecting due to the short length of each entry, but the diverse stories never left me bored. I found myself deeply pondering true, eternal love as I read the last line, and I adored how deep the love ran and how profound it was in so many of the stories. Of course, I can't forget the poetry! Their rhythmic elegance brought something irreplaceable to the anthology!

Love doesn't come in a neat little package. There are obstacles to be overcome and an endurance that will be rivaled. Having said that, Death, Love, Lust depicts love in every light. I loved that this anthology was not just about heterosexual couples, but had a great representation of LGBTQ+ relationships. I cannot tell you how pleased this made me! You definitely won't find your stereotypical pairings here, but what you will find shall be just as wonderful! I do believe that I have discovered quite a few authors to look out for, and I can't wait to see what they put out next! If you want to read an astounding collection of supernatural stories spiced with death, love, and lust, you have definitely got to pick this one up! And like Marie said, read it in the dark!!!!

Please note that I received an ARC of this book in an exchange for an honest review. However, this in no way influenced my review.

Anthology read: updating review as I read so I don't forget individual stories.

Liked Victoria Kinnaird's The Price - it's very clearly a prequel but there's enough information to grasp what happened before and after, and it's well written and engaging.

I wanted to like the Devil's Dozen, because lesbians, hooray, and the last two paragraphs were an excellent spin/twist, but the characters weren't quite convincing, especially in reacting to a whole bunch of death in the start of the story, and I didn't care for how the bodies of either woman were described. (I get what they were aiming for with the line about Marilyn Monroe but golly did it Not Land.)

Patrick Tumblety's Restless Sinners has one hell of an opening, and the aside was kind of awesomely weird/gross, I dug that. This had a kind of Cabin in the Woods-esque vibe, interesting and pretty fucked-up but well crafted. (Didn't love the 'punish the Other Woman too' trope but this was an intriguing enough piece otherwise that I could still enjoy it.)

Iskra Ryder's I'll Be Seeing You was great; solidly composed and clear and engaging; it does a great job with the theme by being entirely self-contained and yet feeling like part of a bigger story in a good way. Well put together, hot and with a hopeful ending.

Emma Michaels and Michael Cross' Until Death We Won't Part was also solid; neat plot and competently written.

About a third of this antho wasn't quite to my taste - some of the other erotica stores were more purple-prose-y than I prefer for sure - but Ryder, Tumblety and Kinnaird were the definite standouts.

I love anthology’s! I think they are great for getting a little peep at different authors ‘voices’ and finding new favorites.

The Death-Love-Lust Anthology is a collection of adult poems and short stories exploring, you guessed it, death love and lust, featuring both hetero and homosexual couples – oh and delicious demons and righteous reapers.

The poems are absolutely beautiful, I read them all multiple times.

The stories range from dark and mysterious to sexy and sinful, with beautiful deep everlasting love shining through.

Normally I’d stay away from erotica that dabbles with death, but as the lovely Lily Luchesi was a part of it and given how I really enjoy her Paranormal Detective series, I gave it a go. I was pleasantly surprised! This is a collection of well-rounded pieces connecting life, death and love. Obviously there were some stories I preferred to others, but as a whole it was a really enjoyable, engaging and entertaining read.

This anthology was totally different for me. I love these authors. I didn't know what the anthology would be like when I started. Definitely a lot darker than I normally read. One would assume with Death in the title to expect well, death! I think I glossed over that word. Definitely death involved. Lots of it. And Love .... and Lust....all mixed together to bring the reader some really interesting reading!

Having said that...I really liked the book. A great mix of poetry and short stories by some very talented authors. I have to say, I really enjoy the anthology idea for books. It gives the authors a chance to work together and create something amazing. You get to sample something from a variety of authors and from there you can decide whether or not to delve further into their lives.

I was given this book for a fair and honest review.
This is quiet an eclectic collection of short stories and poems. Most of the reads in here are dark, so if you are not into that... I wouldn't suggest it. If you do like dark reads...get it for sure!

A combination of short stories and powerful poems, this anthology delivers a lot of feelings. They are equally sweet, heart-breaking, morbidly funny, to some extent, desperate, and most of all, sexy. Each story will make you feel your own mortality!
