DNF at 58%

The story is getting ridiculous for sometime now but I thought it will return to be like the first 25% which I like, well it wasn't. I couldn't read a story like this.

The author wrote about human trafficking story but she write it lightly, is look like not a big problem, which is really? Especially when one of the victims is the hero's sister, she had been raped for months and I didn't see she getting any help to face that awful time!

And there is no character development regarding the heroine, it looks like she always living like this all her life, seriously? Weeks ago she still lived as a nun in the abbey since she was 8 years old!

Others will probably love this one, unfortunately I'm not one of them.

Llevo varios días a trompicones con este libro y a estas alturas sé que no lo voy a terminar…No es que esté mal, es que, simplemente, no es de mi agrado.
No he conseguido conectar con los personajes, ni siquiera con los secundarios y la trama tampoco me ha parecido interesante.
Lo único que me ha gustado del libro ha sido el inicio… no sabía muy bien cómo iba a convencerme la autora de que una monja podía ser la protagonista de una novela romántica y me ha sorprendido gratamente. Un comienzo estelar para una historia que poco a poco se convierte en repetitiva, superficial y difícil de creer.
Por un lado tenemos a Sadie, que es perfecta en todos los sentidos, guapa, un físico estupendo y más buena que un ángel. A la larga esto le pasa factura al personaje y lo hace irreal y plano.
Por otro lado tenemos a Ryder. Ryder que, al 70% de la historia, debe tener el bar más prolífico de la Historia ya que sus recursos nunca acaban: coches caros, motos caras, ropa cara y más gente trabajando a su servicio que El Corte Inglés… Y eso que él se pasa todo el tiempo persiguiendo-acechando-protegiendo a Sadie que trabajando detrás de la barra…
Y por último lado tenemos el romance… insta-love por parte de Ryder y una atracción algo más comedida por parte de Sadie, pero que desde el primer día se convierten en un ítem y tienen una relación basada en él siendo un cavernícola intransigente y mandón y ella casi una pusilánime…
Esto es una manía mía, pero no consigo disfrutar de un romance si la parte del suspense es demasiado gore u oscura… aquí me ha pasado eso. No he entendido la postura de Ryder, me ha parecido un tipo superficial y egocéntrico, no me parece real que una persona cuya hermana está desaparecida actúe así: Cuando encuentran a su hermana que ha sido violada múltiple veces, golpeada múltiples veces y que ha sufrido un aborto a causa de las violaciones y palizas, Sadie llega al hospital para verlos y Ryder la presenta así: Ey, peque, saluda a tu futura cuñada.” De verdad? Que patán! Que desafortunado.
Y el tono del libro sigue así hasta donde lo dejo (70%). No me ha gustado como se trata todo lo que le pasa a la hermana, sin importancia, como si hubiese pasado una gripe, que dura 7 días y después como nueva. Incluso a los pocos días de salir del hospital ya le están buscando novio y se sonroja cuando uno de los secuaces de su hermano la mira. Esto me ha sacado un poco de mis casillas…
Los diálogos me han parecido infantiles y ñoños, y el hecho de estar escrito en primera persona tampoco me ha ayudado, no he sentido que la historia fluyese… esperaba algo más light, desenfadado y divertido después de leer la descripción…
Parafraseando a mi amiga Jill ;-P ,esta historia es muy Kristen Ashley. Con el macho super alfa, todo el baby and babe, su banda de tíos rudos y duros pero buenos, etc… si esto te gusta y te va el New Adult, esta historia es para ti…para mí no ha funcionado…

I have been struggling for several days now with this book and I know that I will not finish it... It is not that it´s a bad story; it is simply that I didn´t find it to my liking.
I have not managed to connect with the characters, not even with the secondary ones and I haven´t found the plot interesting neither.
The only thing I liked from the book has been the beginning... I wasn´t sure if the author could convince me that a nun could be the heroine in a romance and I was pleasantly surprised. A stellar start for a story that gradually becomes repetitive, shallow and hard to believe.
On the one hand we have Sadie, who is perfect in every way; she is pretty and good as gold. But in the long run it takes its toll on the character and makes it feel unrealistic and flat.
On the other hand we have Ryder. Ryder, who at 70% in the story, must own the most prolific bar in history since his resources are endless: expensive cars, expensive motorcycles, expensive clothes and more people working at his service than Macy´s... And on top of all he spends all his time chasing-stalking-protecting Sadie instead of working the bar...
And finally we have the romance... In Ryder´s side we have a case of insta-love and a somewhat more restrained attraction in Sadie´s, but from the first day they become an item and have a relationship based on him being a jerk and a bully and her almost a doormat...
This is a quirk of mine, but I can´t enjoy a romance if the suspense is too much harsh or dark... That´s what happened to me here. I have not understood Ryder´s stance, it has seemed to me he is a superficial and egocentric man, I don´t think a person in real life whose sister is missing acts this way: when they find his sister who has been raped multiple times, beaten multiple times and who has suffered an abortion because of the rapes and beatings, Ryder enters the hospital room with Sadie and introduce both women saying something like this: “Hey, baby sis, meets your future sister-in-law." Really? What a jerk! That was uncalled-for.
And the book´s tone continues that way until where I leave it (at 70%). I did not like how the author deal with everything that happens to his sister, like is no biggie, as if she had the flu, which lasts 7 days and then you are as good as new. even a few days after leaving the hospital she is already blushing because she has a crush on one of his brother's henchmen. This has driven me nuts...
The dialogues have seemed childish and drippy, and being written in the first person has not helped me neither. I have not felt that the story had flowed... I expected something lighter, more casual and funny after reading the blurb...
To paraphrase my friend Jill ;-P ,this story is Kristen Ashley-lite. With the alpha male, all the baby and babe, his band of rough and tough, but good guys, etc... If you like this and New Adult, this story is for you... It did not work for me...

The title... I was smiling and intrigued from the first time I spotted the title. And *snort* its the NUN-rated edition.

I'm already familiar with the author's earlier Dogs of Fire MC series so I was curious about this spin-off story going on in the Dogs of Fire world. New readers can easily pick this one up without having read the older ongoing series without trouble since this pulls in new lead characters and a parallel story line.

I found this a light story with some heartwarming and thoughtful elements. The romance is the focus, but the suspense is a solid element to keep things interesting too. A woman who grew up with nuns and wanted to be a nun, but really wasn't cut out for that vocation and a guy raised in a dark, gritty world come together. It was an intriguing situation.

Sadie was a mystery to me much of the time, I'll admit. I had no idea why she got bent out of shape half the time's she did or at least to the extent she did. She's naive and vulnerable, but she's also defensive and snarky. She needs a bit of help transitioning out into the world but sometimes she gets a chip on her shoulder and takes it wrong. She wants to be thought to have arrived before her train is barely leaving the station if that makes sense.

Ryder, now he wasn't a mystery. He's a steamroller once he gets going. He's alpha to the core and has the need to be in control and keep those he cares about safe- bubble wrap probably isn't out of the question. But, this need makes sense when his past and his sister's issues come into play. Sadie was a good fit for him and kept him on his toes just like he had the patience and understanding not to see her as an oddball, but a person who just needs some time.

The suspense part seemed to be leading in one direction with Ryder's missing sister, but then it became something huge and much more. Sadie finds out just how dark Ryder's world was and has to figure out if she'll stand with him or sit this one out.

I had a good time with this side story in the Dogs of Fire universe. I think lovers of that series as well as those who enjoy romantic suspense with a stronger dose of spicy romance should definitely snag this up.

This was a fun read, about a young former nun's adjustment to 'regular' life, with a romantic interest quickly coming into the picture. The strange/strained interactions between the H/h - mainly due to miscues from the heroine Sadie, with her observations and snark, and the hero Ryder's overprotectiveness - made for some entertaining reading.
Even with the dark undercurrent running throughout, the story was comical in nature.
(Note that I read the Nun-Rated version, which had one lightweight sex scene near the end. The original version is pretty squeaky clean).

I have been dying to read this book since the hints and teasers started appearing on Facebook. I can’t believe how lucky I was to get an Arc before release day. And all I had to do was write an honest review—oh yeah!!! sign me up.
I might have let out a squeal when I opened the ebook. The squealing didn’t stop at page one. I laughed. I giggled. I rolled on the floor laughing. The title, A Nun Walks Into a Bar, hinted at the story being funny, but it was downright hilarious. I highlighted so many funny passages, one liners, and phrases that I had to start color coding. This book could do no wrong.
What makes the story so funny is Sadie. The things that come out of her mouth. Sadie is the nun that ends up in a bar after getting off at the wrong MAX stop (Portland, Oregon’s light rail system) and her phone goes dead—Murphy’s law at its finest.
Sadie isn’t your typical nun. She is a nun because that is what she knows. She has been living in a convent since the age of eight. Her parents died leaving her great aunt, who happens to be the mother superior, as her guardian. Talk about sheltered!!! Yet she still goes to dinner with a childhood friend. She avoids confession because it isn’t anonymous. She is a big Die Hard fan.
She walks into the bar and her heart goes all a flutter for Ryder, the gorgeous man behind the bar. She isn’t the only one that feels it. Ryder knows there is something there but can’t act on it. Alpha male Ryder makes sure she is safely delivered home after putting his number in her now charged phone.
Fast forward four months, Sadie is no longer a nun. The Reverend mother knew Sadie was meant to be something other than a nun. When she accidently calls Ryder the game is on. Ryder knows that fate has brought them back together and he isn’t going to mess it up.
I wonder if Ryder realized what he was getting into????? Sadie’s mouth has no filter. If she thinks it; she says it. She is clueless about the real world. I didn’t know if I should laugh or cry. I compromised and laughed so hard I cried. She has absolutely no experience with or knowledge of the opposite sex. She refuses to have sex before marriage.
Ryder has the patience of a saint. He grew up in a 1% Motorcycle club but left before he turned 18. He is 29 years old. He owns six bars. He has women throwing themselves at him on a daily basis. And yet, he not only accepts Sadie’s terms but they are monogamous. I wonder if all of Ryder’s cold showers caused the drought?
All of this sweet, lovey dovey romance goes on while Ryder is trying to find his sister, a victim of human trafficking. You not only have the laughs, but you have suspense and horrible situations. Situations so horrible that you will be grateful for the laughs.
So now the only question is how to rate A Nun Walks into a Bar. How many stars does a book get that sucks you in and refuses to let go until the end? How many stars does a book get that makes you laugh so hard that you wish you hadn’t had that last cup of tea? How many starts does a book get that you know could be the next Sleepless in Seattle or You’ve Got Mail?

3.5 Stars rounded up. I enjoyed this story for the most part. The themes of sex trafficking gave it a serious side, but the author did a good job of incorporating that while keeping romance and humor in the book. The only thing I didn't enjoy was that it jumps from the middle of the climax into an epilogue. It's very jarring. I liked the characters. I'm not a real biker fan, but I didn't feel like it was an overwhelming part of the book. I'm interested in the other books in the series to watch the side characters find love.

I just want to say this was a simply fantastic story, the title has you scratching your head but within the first few chapters I knew I was in for an amazing romantic journey.

Ryder - well what an alpha man, he knew what he wanted and went for it - he is protective and such a gentleman - surprising considering his upbringing and what stamina he has to stand by Sadie and her inner beliefs.

Sadie steals the show, is stunning, stubborn and simply sensuous when released into the real world. We are given laughs, love and friendship, shown the strength of human compassion and I adored Sadie's aunt - what a way to grow up and be given such guidance for living her life.

Sadie as a character connects to the reader from the first chapter, the way the story wove into her own coming of age and finding her place in the world was simply brilliant.

This is my third book by this author and I was not disappointed and this is actually my favourite so far, we are given a great suspense story that entwines the the romance journey that these two main characters are taken on.

I could pick this up again and start reading, it will be going into my "to be read" again list as it just made me feel so happy.

A Nun Walks into a Bar is a romantic comedy, a crime investigation, and a suspenseful thriller all in one. If you like suspense and mysteries, then this is the perfect book for you! Note: The book DOES delve into the world of human trafficking, so it may contain triggers for some readers.

The characters were well developed and mostly likable. Ryder is a successful businessman who owns several bars. Sadie (aka Sister Abigail Eunice) is a teacher and former nun in training. Fate throws them together twice within a short period of time, and there is an instant attraction. (References to "The Sound of Music" at this point made me laugh.) However, Ryder has bigger concerns than an attraction to a nun: his real sister is missing, allegedly sold to human traffickers. Will Ryder be able to save his sister? And is there a place for Sadie in their lives?

This is my first book by Tracey Jane Jackson, and I was impressed and pleased that I took a gamble on a catchy title that made me laugh. The plot was fast paced and attention grabbing. I was unable to put it down and read it straight through! I will be looking up more books by this author.

I have to start by saying in my defense, I thought this book was going to be funnier than this. Scratch that, I thought it was going to be funny. Period. But I kept reading and I honestly don't know why I kept reading. I guess I was hoping that Sadie would get a brain in her head. She was so stupidly naive about everything. It's like she decided to fall in love with the first guy to give her any type of attention. Ryder was absolutely horrible! I kind of wanted to make a drinking game out of every time he called her "Baby". But then I was afraid if I did that, I'd die. The editing was atrocious. At one point the author switched points of view in the middle of the sentence, switching between "I" and "he". But I trudged through and kept reading, and all I can say is that I firmly remained #teampriest and was disappointed with everything. Save yourself the time, don't pick up this book (at least I can say that this was a free book and I didn't waste any money on it)

Pretty sure I bought this for the punny title - the chronic overuse of the words 'babe', 'baby' and 'love' started to grate as did the male main characters constant need to be in control of everything (a rough childhood does not mean it's okay to have a girl followed when she's out with friends - just to see if she's "ok")

Not sure what to think about this book. It was somehow unsatifying but maybe if I were young I would feel differently. It definitely dealt with some different stuff...the very wrong side of society contrasted with the religious, for example. But the romance felt off and the criminal stuff either forced or too realistic. Not sure if I'd bother with another from the series tho I read the teaser.

While it started out somewhat promising, it fairly quickly devolved into circular repetition.

Implausibly, Sadie and Ryder- the conventional opposites- attract so immediately that they are emotionally intertwined immediately- and this does not change. Their periodic spats do not seem serious, especially since they spat over the exact same things over and over again until it is tedious. And then do it some more.

Sadie is very annoying. When she gets involved with Ryder, she gets hooked into his world willy-nilly- and she does her best to fight the reasonable protections Ryder tries to impose to save her from actual, realistic danger.

I also got overdosed on the endless lovey-dovey stuff. A mutual admiration society is no substitute for a couple having serious differences and working them out.

And- if you are triggered by gratuitous rape- avoid this book. Ryder's sister is kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery, and while it's mentioned as Really Grave, it's mostly included as a way to show the Bad Guys are REALLY BAD!!! This is the worst possible way to refer to serious trauma, since it minimizes it and the trauma of it; it's a cheap, easy trick that displays a lack of compassion to survivors.

oh my gosh! it was awesome! amazing! DEEP! hilarious, so sweet! thrilling! exciting and just down right wonderful! not your average romance for sure! a new spin of good-guy biker bad ass meets clueless romantic!
Ryder is such a protective, sweet, short-fused bear! (but full of honey!) yes...He was a sweetheart, but a bad ass! Sadie was great!!! hilarious all around and you never knew what she was going to say or do next!
love the twists and turns and kinks in it, I had an inkling the bad guy was one of Ryder's men and I had hoped it wasn't Reese! ((yea, I know how those twists can go lol))
I loved everything about it! it was such a fun, fabulous read that I want more! I could always go into more detail on reviews, but then I feel like I'm giving away tidbits of the story, like I ached when Sadie did and I was like "oh no Ryder, don't you do it!" but then he didn't...so it's all good ;) Yes, I talk to the book characters, laugh with them, cry with them, wince with them. it was so good I fan-girl squealed when I was able to read it, and am still squealing on the inside thinking about it!

I love this book and ALL of Tracey Jane Jackson's books, they are marvelous!

Tracey did an amazing job with this story! A Nun Walks Into A Bar is sweet and funny and sexy as hell! Sadie was an endearing character that I connected with right away. Ryder was the perfect blend of big jerk and supportive alpha. I loved him. There are no slow moments and I loved watching Sadie and Ryder's relationship grow throughout it. One of my top favourite reads of this year.

I received a copy from InstaFreebie (now called Prolific Works); this is my honest review.
-Corny with suspenseful bits, and a few funny ones too. Sadie's POV was all 1st person; Ryder's was 3rd person.
-I don't think the author researched much about kidnapped girls for harems, sex and drugs. It was not done well, like a mosquito in your soup. This is a tragic subject and should have been treated as such.
-I didn't care for Sadie much - she was self-centered and didn't mind breaking someone's heart with her mouth. I loved Ryder. He was strong, protective, and knew what he wanted. But he didn't need to be stepped over every time he tried to protect or save Sadie. She's a nun; he comes from a gang; he knows about life.
-One thing what was wrongly appointed to a nun: she didn't know anything about romance. Even a 10 years old knows about romance or can be romantic.
-Redundant: baby, babe, honey about every 5 seconds in their dialogues. It got old and annoying.
-Editing: can't let him know I love him. Hum, you already told him that chapters ago and many times in between.
-All in all, the book didn't impress me and didn't really get curious enough to read the next book after that, which is Reese's story and someone we don't even know about. I would not recommend.

This is my first book by Tracey Jane Jackson/Piper Davenport and it was witty, charming and just downright BRILLIANT! I really enjoyed the concept of an Ex-Nun trying to find herself in a whole new world. Writing style had me hooked from the first chapter and the characters had me charmed and I couldn't put the book down to see where Ryder and Sadie's story went.

Fully developed characters and dual POV, gives you an insight to Ryder and Sadie's emotions, feelings and thoughts which only adds to the charm of the story. Some sexual content, but not what the book is all about. I enjoyed Sadie's sass and witty banter and Ryder's protectiveness and bad boy edge. I can't wait to read Reese's story (Book 2), but would LOVE, love, LOVE to read a story on Ollie and Scarlett!

A definite must read for those who enjoy a sweet, funny and charming romance with a bit of suspense and mystery thrown in.

I'll admit that I wasn't quite sure what to make of the title of this book, but I bought it because I just love Tracery Jane Jackson. It did not disappoint! It was really interesting to read about Sadie transitioning from a nun (the only life she has ever known but one she did not quite fit into) to the regular world. She is definitely a different kind of heroine -- smart, funny, naive, but not afraid to stand up for herself. She and Ryder definitely fit each other well. I loved Ryder's protectiveness, although he clearly goes a bit over the top at times.

The secondary characters were also great, and I really liked Ryder's crew. Scottie was also hilarious, and she was a nice complement to the other characters.

There was just enough suspense in this book to keep things interesting, but it did not overpower the romance. The ending tied things up well (maybe a little too well), but I am such a sucker for happy endings that I can't complaint! Another winner by Ms. Jackson!

This was the first book I read by Piper Davenport/Tracey Jane Jackson. I really enjoyed it but I do prefer the Dogs of Fire series. When Ryder first meets Sadie she is Sister Abigail Eunice. She has been in the abbey since she was 8 when her parents were killed in an accident. Her only living family is the Mother at the abbey, her auntie. Ryder is searching for his missing sister and he grew up in an MC, he is estranged from his parents and left the MC before becoming a member. There is a bit of drama, and Sadie learning to live in the outside world. I really liked Ryder although he often wasn’t to good at communicating. Sadie was okay but she did annoy me on many occasions. The book does cover some pretty heavy situations, I would recommend it.

Okay - total guilty pleasure reading. Thought this would be more of a mystery kind of novel - and it was, kind of, but more of a straight up romance novel (total, big strong man to the rescue stuff). The characters are not deep, not a lot of surprises, but the story itself is fun, and sometimes, you just want to put your brain on hold and enjoy some light reading. Not for kids - major sex scenes, language, some violence. more of an action story than mystery; and the action does keep going. This book could have been a lot better if the author had taken the time to make her characters more 3-dimensional and if the conflicts that kept arising in the story weren't always so conveniently and relatively easily overcome.

Cute story - I loved the interaction between Sadie and Ryder, who are polar opposites. I must admit, however, the constant “baby” and “baby girl” talk put me on edge after a while. The MC and human trafficking storylines caught me completely off guard, but in a good way. One thing really distracted from the story, however, and that was during Ryder’s portions of the story where the tense would change mid-sentence. It’s as if Ryder’s character was originally written in third person, then changed to first, and it wasn’t picked up by proofreaders or editors in many portions of the book. For example, “I ran a hand through his hair.” This is Ryder talking, and I’m pretty sure he wasn’t running his hands through any guy’s hair.

I love all of Tracey's books. They hint at the passion running between the couples that get together, leaving the rest up to your imagination. You don't need your imagination with this edition of A Nun. . . The passion between Sadie and Ryder explodes in print and I think it makes for a better story; seeing the chemistry in action, so to speak.

I understand that Tracey has her fans based on the way she writes and that some may not like the sexy scenes, but for me, Tracey can continue writing in this way with all of her books.

It was a fun read… something different that is for sure.
Most of story is narrated in the first person by the lead characters Sadie and Ryder... there were some edits that got missed.. dealing with the use of correct pronouns when referring to oneself in the first person. As I was not particularly interested in the sex scenes… I just skimmed past those scenes.

note: my kindle e-reader copy has Piper Davenport as the author.. but everything else seems to fit cover is the same (except for author name) ...

Funny

I give three stars because parts of this was pretty funny. I also really liked Reece. He was not a main character, but I still liked him. I didn't rate higher because as the story progressed it started to become cheesy. The story line was very solid, but the heroine was annoying at times and the hero was this weird mix of mushy creepiness. I won't spoil the read because it really was decent just a bit too syrupy sweet for my taste.

I've got this author's flavor now, and I'm seeing the trend. Nothing wrong with a sweet hero but he's (b/c they're all alike) beginning to bug me with the milquetoast behavior. And why on earth do all the heroines get obsessed with wedding dresses and giant diamond rings at the end?

Either way, I did enjoy this one more than the other novels - it was better paced and fleshed out. Just really beginning to dislike the above.

Page turner.

Could not put this down, from the first page to last. Great read full fun fear and love. Rude and Sadie's chemistry was brilliant. The love he show his even when he wanted to kill her for the choices she where brilliantly written into the story. Also the fear for Sadie when she was kidnapped by hi sperm diner ( the name he gave his vile Father). This is a story has it all action, love and fun.

I won't say much because this isn't really my preferred genre to begin with. Picked it because the description sounded interesting. I did finish the book, but only because I finish every book every time. I didn't like the "powerless and willing to forgive everything because he's hot" message, and the story twists got increasingly ridiculous as the story continued. Major issues treated lightly sealed the book's fate in my mind.

I think I re-red this book 2 or 3 times already!
First of all NO SPOILERS!
Call me a sap for loving MC romance novels with great characters and witty dialog :)
I love this book, starting with the title and the cover, the writing, the story,character's, the plot well I am a total fan girl basically! I will probably read it again in a year or so when I need a good pick me up :)
P.s. this would be a cute movie as well!
