J.B. McGee is a mother, wife, and the Amazon Top 100 author of the best selling This Series. Amazon Crossing acquired the German rights to her debut novel, Broken. Heartfall, her coming of age novel about a bullied ballerina, is a #1 best seller in the Teen and Young Adult Performing Arts genre. Skipping Stones, a military romance about a young woman strongly influenced by her faith and her family all the while searching for her true love, is a #1 best seller in Women's Christian Fiction.

When J.B.'s not writing, she enjoys reading as well as watching and live-chatting her favorite television shows with her friends. Her favorite shows are Quantico, Blindspot, Grey’s Anatomy, The Bachelor/Bachelorette, Below Deck, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Scandal (mainly because of her love of Scott Foley).

Born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina, she attended Converse College and eventually earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of South Carolina-Aiken in 2006.

In college, she was told by her children’s literature professor she would be the one student from her class to be an author. McGee shook her head and laughed. But in 2012, over six years after that statement was made and after a love of reading had been reignited, she gave writing a shot. J.B. gladly ate crow when she emailed her first book to the above mentioned children’s literature professor thanking her and acknowledging the accuracy of her prophecy.

In 2011, it was discovered that not only do both of her children, but also she and her husband, have mitochondrial disease. Affecting 1 in 2500 people, it has no cure or treatments. Being a writer allows J.B. to care for her family’s unique needs while also providing a platform for raising awareness for this disease.

She is a hopeless romantic who loves to escape into fairy tales—some she reads and some she creates.

J.B. McGee and her family now reside in Buford, Georgia.

I love JB McGee and loved her THIS series when I read it about three years ago. This story’s heroine was kind of similar to Gabby from the series I read previously, but she also ended up frustrating me throughout the book. Claire is a sixteen-year-old ballerina who has been dancing since she was five. She is the only one in her dance class that doesn’t come from money, and she also doesn’t have a waif-like figure. Poor Claire is often ridiculed and bullied by a group of mean girls until one day the beautiful boy in her class stands up for her and he also makes it very clear that he has been crushing on her for quite some time.

Sebastian Reyes is the top dancer in her class and he’s also the object of many girls’ affections, but he only has eyes for Claire. I really loved Sebastian and how he always tried to break through Claire’s insecurities and helped her see herself through his eyes. He had my heart from the start.

Some big life altering events occur that affect Claire’s future. I wasn’t happy with some of it and then another hero is introduced. Liam was mysterious and definitely sexy but when he’s also described as being into a little of the BDSM, I felt like the story took a wrong turn. I think this just didn’t have a place in the story. It felt very off for me. Plus the little revelation towards the end, I did see coming and thought that it should never have been added to the book. The epilogue would have been perfect if it focused only on Claire and how her life turned out but there were additional revelations that just ended up confusing the heck out of me.

Overall, I did like the story, but I just didn’t love it. That being said, I love this author’s writing and will definitely be reading her future works.

Heartfall by JB McGee
3 stars!!!

“If you made me weak, I never want to be strong.”

I have to start by saying I am a huge JB McGee fan, I have loved her other books and she always manages to evoke every single emotion out of me without fail and this book was no different. At times I had tears rolling down my face, I was a mess, I was cursing the author because she had done it again but after putting me through the emotional wringer and while trying to mend my broken heart, for me this book lost its way. This is just my opinion, but for me it was a book of two halves and the first half was fantastic.

I was bullied at school, really badly to the point I was beaten up beyond recognition, there was always an excuse for them but for me, it was always why me? What had I ever done to them? Claire was the victim of bullying, for years she had put up and shut up and then one day, finally, she gets her knight in shining armour in the guise of Sebastian Reyes. He was the leading male dancer, he had the biggest heart of gold and wore it proudly but most of all, he had seen and heard enough, it had to stop.

“Because I think us dancing together is going to be what leads you from the darkness back into the light.”

Sebastian was wise beyond his years and sixteen-year-old Claire had been on his radar for years, he had admired her from afar but now he was stepping up to the plate, protecting her from the girls and finally had the guts to declare his feelings and intentions. The boy had it bad, but it was reciprocated, but these two had issues to overcome, mostly Claire’s insecurities and self-confidence.

“…And maybe one day, I’ll love me.”

Bullies don’t realise the damage they inflict, for them it is a casual comment, a stupid prank, or a little slap, something that they forget five seconds after the event. The person on the receiving end, each word, each prank, each slap…lasts a lifetime and JB McGee really brought this to the forefront. It resonated deep and brought back harsh memories, but most of all I empathised and I was willing Claire to see what she had in front of her. A boy that loved her implicitly, a boy that would do anything for her and a boy that loved her for who she was, inside and out. Sebastian and Claire were inseparable.

“Some people have to use small words to fill big insecurities.”

Part 2, yes this book literally is a book of two halves, here is where for me it just lost its way and I am being deliberately vague because I don’t want to spoil anything. My character connection was shot, I didn’t feel it, I didn’t believe it and for me that impacts my reading. I am an emotional reader, I have to live and breathe it and the first half, I had that in spades…emotional overload. JB McGee wrote the first half to perfection and I personally feel because she did such a fantastic job it made the second half lose its impact. There was one plot device used as well that I personally felt wasn’t needed either, for me it was a tad unbelievable and just negated everything that had happened in the second half.

However, as I have said, I adored the first half, it ticked every single box I love and while the second half wasn’t my cup of tea I was still emotionally invested in Claire’s story. I wanted to see it to the end but most of all I wanted her to be happy. I loved the epilogue and was glad to see Claire’s story come full circle. She was stronger than she thought and while she had been through the mill to get there, sometimes fairy tales do come true, there is a prince out there for everyone, you just have to trust your heart to find them.

“I’ll love you a second past forever.”

**I was provided an ARC in exchange for my honest review.**

If I could give this book 10 stars I would! Where do I begin? This book is so many things. It's breathtakingly beautiful and heart breaking at the same time. It tugs at your heart. For anyone that's ever been bullied you feel the struggle and identify with the pain, the shame, the seclusion, the desire to feel invisible, the feeling of being anything but beautiful.

This story is so much more than bullying. It's second chances, first love, firsts that you never forget. It's also about second chances, falling over and over but getting back up, realizing that sometimes you make sacrifices to better a loved one, even though your heart breaks, holding on to those memories of the rides, the glances and the kisses even though you don't have them anymore.

Through the darkness, you climb and fight your way to the light. And sometimes that light, is the most unexpected, blue eyes, sexy male that you stumble upon.

Truly and unforgettable story. Thank you JB for this story.

When an author tells you they are going to break you but put you back together, I take that as a personal challenge. I saw an author friend post about this book and i just had to insinuate myself in the middle and get a piece of this action.
And i don't regret it....at all.
Heartfall did tear my heart out.
The young love story of Claire and Sebastian was one for the classics. He lifted her up, both physically and emotionally. But we all know, all good things must come to an end sometimes. Oh, the feels...not what i was expecting. Not at all. 'I'll love you a second past forever'
Years later, in comes Liam. He has his own tragedies of his past and together Liam and Claire learn that love is possible when you least expect it to happen. They help each other heal, unknowingly. The passion these two ignite is what you are always looking for. 'I have found the one whom my soul loves' Truer words could not have been spoken for this couple. 'You're the angel God sent when my heart fell' Swoontastic!
This is definitely a book you're going to want to read.
I'm giving this book 5 stars...because yes, it was that good.
The struggles and decisions Claire made brought so many memories of the decisions I had to make. Being purely unselfish is so hard on the heart. Not many people can understand.
And then...the plot twist at the end...just wow! Great job there...i knew one part but you shocked me with the other!
Thank you JB McGee for giving me this story, for trusting me to read beforehand. I look forward to so much more!
And these damn book morals are still killing me!

There are very few books that truly leave me speechless after I put them down, but this one did exactly that. It. Blew. Me. Away. (and I don't say that often) I finished it this morning but have been pulling my thoughts together to give it the review it so deserves. It was profound and truly unforgettable.

This is a heartbreakingly beautiful story that had me in it's grip from the first page. I didn't want to put it down even if it meant getting only a few hours of sleep or leaving my house in shambles while I sat reading while life went on around me.

The characters were complex and the storyline flowed perfectly and never felt like it was dragging even for a moment. I felt every emotion as I was going on this journey with Claire - I felt her happiness, her self-doubt, her heartbreak, her anger, and finally her peace. I related to her, I felt like I truly understood her. I don't want to go into too many details because I truly feel that you should go into this book knowing as little as possible to really enjoy it. The author touched on some hard topics and this was one of my favorite quotes:

"Some people have to use small words to fill big insecurities"

And this one:

"I'll love you a second past forever . No one will ever be what you are to me."

Just reading it now floods me with emotion and covers me in goosebumps. I cannot recommend this book enough - please go and get this one on release day. I PROMISE you won't regret it.

Wow.wow.wow

I read this book a few days ago and I still feel all the effects it has left me with. This is a YA coming to age story. Claire has grown up the outcast, always being bullied and ridiculed. She's a dancer, and no matter how good she may be she doubts everything about herself. Sebastian and Claire have known each other since they were kids and stated dancing. Sebastian is everything a girl could dream up for a perfect boyfriend. As they cross the line from friends to lovers both there lives begin to change. The love these two had for each other was felt through every chapter. There are two parts to this story and believe me when I say when part 1 ended I just about died.
I NEVER SAW THAT COMING.

DREAMS•COURAGE•LOVE•HOPE

Part 2 Part 2 Part 2

Every single thing I could say will give the second part away. The characters in this story are written to perfection. This love story about reaching your dreams, and having the courage to believe in yourself will leave you with a full heart. This was my first book by J.B. And I devoured every page.

“Because I think us dancing together is going to be what leads you from the darkness back into the light.

Those that know me will tell you I have a tendancy to be very critical and sometimes a little too brutally honest. I also tend to be someone that doesn't read reviews when selecting a book. I like to look at it with fresh eyes and make my own decision and hate nothing more than a review that gives too much away. As such my reviews will tend to fall into mainly two categories, dire where I would recommend you do not waste money or a five star where I love the book and want others to read it to tell me it wasn't just me. This most definitely falls into the latter!!

I have read JB's other books and this is on a whole new level. Probably the easiest way to explain what a five star review means to me is to tell you what I need to fall in love with a book:
Believable characters - even if they are loved or hated by me the writing has to have made me understand their motivation.
Escapism - I want to disappear into a book, that special style of writing where you feel you are the one there.
Emotions - I like to be able to feel highs and lows, and while I am not a huge fan of ugly crying I do love to be with the character and have the tears in my eyes, lump in the throat, fear, or anger.
Addictive - It has to be something I end up falling asleep with rather than want to put down. A Kindle face smack as they're becoming known in my house.
Unpredictable - I like an element of surprise, not the type where you read about antibiotics for no apparent reason on Page 10 and know immediately you're going to find the ooops baby on Chapter 15 and feel the need to smack the character around the head.

For me this book gave me all of these in spades! It deals with difficult and emotive issues, that many of us will have had experience or contact with, in a sensitive and believable way. It has the full range of characters, those you like and those you don't. I found myself not wanting to put it down and so read it pretty much in one sitting. One of the reasons for this though is that it very much reminds me of our family watching a really good crime drama on the sofa. Not because there is a hidden murder but because there is a point where you start thinking smugly I know what is going to happen here, then comes the disappointment and anger as you think `No, that link is too obvious!' But it is exactly that keeping you glued, knowing you must be wrong or if not you'll throw something. Inevitably with the best you have always missed something. In this case I had that same feeling but I was kept on the edge of my seat until near the end where I'm saying Nooooo he wouldn't do that and thinking I know the characters by now. Rather than just getting that something you missed though, JB spins you around and smacks you on the back of the head when you are least expecting it. You literally rethink what you have just read, and I ended up re-reading bits to make sure I had really just read that.
It turns it into the type of book that you want to immediately talk about with someone else that has read it, making it a perfect book for groups to read as that, together with the emotive subject matter, will certainly cause some discussion.

What strikes me now, a couple of days after finishing the book and discussing it, is that I want to go back again and read it. One of those books that you know you missed things in that first read, that knowing the ending you will keep finding little extras or subtle nuances you just didn't recognise.

A truly beautiful book that I hope you will enjoy as much as me.

description

This is the first book that I've read about ballet and even though I had no idea what anything associated with ballet was before I cracked this one open, it was pretty good! This is also the first book that I've read by J.B. McGee.

From the very first page, this book reminded me of Center Stage. It's really nothing like that movie and Heartfall probably reminded me of it because it's the only other thing I've ever read or watched that was about ballet and the life of someone who participates in it. Not knowing anything about ballet most certainly didn't detract from the enjoyment I got while reading.

I enjoyed the characters and I was a little surprised by the depth of the characters since the beginning of the book is YA. That's not to say that there aren't deep characters in YA novels, so don't start attacking my review, there was just more to Claire and Sebastian than I had anticipated. That's a great thing, it drew me into the lives of each of them much more quickly than it would have if they had been written differently. The strength behind Claire was a beautiful thing to experience while it was developing. I loved her from the beginning.

You think you know what you're getting yourself into when you read the back of this book. But it's more. It is so much more than just the blurb. It was beautiful and heartbreaking and basically, a captivating read. The plot does jump around quite a bit. There were parts of the book where I would have been more than fine with hearing more about but it was just glossed over. That was a little upsetting because I just wanted to know more about the characters and what they were going through. Don't get me wrong, McGee left nothing out of the plot that was necessary information, she covered everything I just wanted more ... I didn't want the jumps in time to happen because I'm greedy.

Excluding the scenes that I wanted just a tad more out of, this was a great book. It was sad. So sad but a good read. Until the epilogue. It came out of NOWHERE. It made sense and closed out the book correctly but talk about left field. I enjoyed how the epilogue really buttoned up everything nice and pretty but it almost felt like an after-thought because it was a little bit random at first. Great book, I'll try another by this author in the future probably.

If you fall my reviews, you know that I am not one for sweet and lovey. I usually prefer the dark, down and dirty, make your head spin type of books. Every so often I come across a book that is a much lighter read than what I would normally choose. I am very picky with these lighter books. I made another great choice!

J.B. writes with such heart and passion. Her characters are so unique and likable. I found myself invested in Claire's journey. I felt it was up to me to wish her the happily ever after she so deserved. I wasn't a fan of Sebastian. (Please no tomato throwing.) There was nothing really wrong with him. He just isn't the male character I usually like. He was sweet, a little too sweet for me. Now Liam, I loved him. I loved his sweet yet rough edges. He wasn't the "perfect" character. He had that perfect balance of sweet and jerk that he was more suited for Claire.

I just realized how I made the book sound. This isn't a love triangle. This is a story of love and loss. It's a story of a woman picking up the pieces from her loss and moving forward. The true to life issues in this book are raw and real. I didn't need to step out of reality for this book. This story could be any one of us.

Heartfall by J.B. McGee is a beautiful, heartbreaking story of when fate intervenes to give second chances.

Claire is a relatable character who made my heart shatter into a million pieces. Her perception of herself, no matter how skewed, was so real, so raw, that I could feel her pain and internal suffering. Her only solace is through Sebastian, a boy she’s known almost her whole life.

Sebastian is what every boyfriend should be. He’s attentive, affectionate, caring, and kind. He made me smile and swoon for Claire. I was so happy she found someone like him.

But not everything in life is simple, and Claire is certainly dealt an unfortunate hand. This story made me mad, it made me laugh, it had some definite steam, and boy did it make me cry. It’s rare for me to find a book that can play with every single one of my emotions, but McGee accomplished that through her diverse characters and twisted plot.

Will Claire be able to rise above the tragedy and trust her heart? Find out and read Heartfall!!

A few years ago I read a book by J.B. McGee called Skipping Stones. That book put my emotions through the wringer, but I loved every single second of it. When I saw her newest offering, Heartfall, I knew I simply had to have it. I love having my emotions toyed with at the hands of talented authors.

This book starts off as pretty tame YA and ends up with some hot and steamy New Adult romance, a crossover if you will. Every second I was guessing as to where this story would end up. As soon as I thought it was heading in one direction, J.B. totally messed with my heart and it went in another. I loved the unpredictability.

Claire's story definitely runs the gamut of emotions. Swoony, sigh worthy, some ugly tears, anger and that's all before she amps up the spice factor. It has it all. And that's exactly what I love and look for in my stories. Mmm, it's so worth the read.

Heartfall

This was my first JB McGee book I have read and what a book to read first. I cannot believe I have not read anything by this author yet and kicking myself for not picking something up before now. But at the same time I am grinning from ear to ear and giddy about the fact that this book was the book to be my first JB McGee book. When I find a new author to read and fall in love with their writing immediately, I always find myself holding that very first book in a very special place in my heart and I am so glad that Heartfall will be added to that special place.

This book was just so many things. It was a story about a girl who was bullied from a young age into her adulthood. It was a story of first loves. It was a story of tragedy. It was a story of strength and selflessness. And it was a story of healing. So exactly how do I put that into words, words that would truly do this story justice but also not spoil one amazing second of it. Well that’s what I am about to try to do.

This book was truly an emotional roller coaster that filled me with so many feels, to the point there were a few times I had to put it down and take a breather as I was just too overcome with emotion, that's just how beautifully written this book is. I will be honest there were a few times I was so overcome with tears and heartache, for a girl who was bullied, made to feel she wasn't any good and wasn't beautiful. Although I also had moments of goosebumps and butterflies from the love she shared, the love that finally made her feel worthy and beautiful.

Claire was such an amazing character that I couldn't help but admire and love from there very first moment I met her as a little 4 year old ballerina. Claire was bullied, by both her peers but also by her dance instructor, constantly ridiculed for what she wore, how she had her hair, and even what she ate. So many girls would have either gave up and stopped dancing or ended up with an eating disorder. I truly don’t know how she ever managed to survive so many years dealing with it and it not totally break her beyond repair. Then to have her only face such a horrible tragedy and to survive it but also be so selfless just truly astounded me.

There were so many more amazing characters in this story that I absolutely loved and that truly made it so amazing. From Sebastian and Miss Celeste to Avery and Liam, they were all such great support for Claire, helping her truly see the beautiful person she was and help her become who she was truly meant to be. But I have to say, I don’t think I have truly ever hated a character more than Audrina. To be so hateful towards Claire for so long but then to only continue it after all that had happened, I truly can’t ever imagine someone being that downright hateful. Sadly, even though Audrina is a fictional character is this story, there are Audrina’s of the world, and I truly hope both Audrina and all the real Audrina’s of the world one day get to meet Karma face to face.

I also must add that this book had me so sucked in and completely engaged with the characters and their story. So much so I found myself looking up all the songs mentioned throughout the book so that as I read I could listen and what an amazing playlist that was. So as a recommendation, if you have not read this book yet, check out this author’s playlist she has created on Spotify and listen as you read, it truly adds so much more to the book, the songs fit perfectly to the story and the characters.

I truly need to leave my thoughts and feelings at that as I find myself struggling to not say all I want to say about this phenomenal story but saying all I want to say would only end up spoiling this book and this book truly needs to be enjoyed fully by going in blind. Just know, this book is one hell of an emotional roller coaster, it will take you on the ride of your life, with so many highs, so many lows and several loopty loo’s that will leave you wanting to get off for fear of your hearth bursting into a million pieces but never wanting the ride to end, so buckle up, hold on tight and keep the Kleenex handy cause you will go through so many emotions. But after saying all that, I hope that truly speaks volumes to how amazingly written this book is and how much this is an absolute must read. This may have been my very first book by JB McGee, it definitely won’t be my last and I have already started checking out what book of hers will be my next read.

Wow! Just wow! Those were the words that fell out of my mouth after reading the final words of this amazing story. I was completely amazed and completely hungover from this book. From the moment I started reading it, I did not want to put it down. I was a beautiful, emotional and touching story about second chances, fate and learning to love yourself. JB McGee managed to completely break my heart with Heartfall but in the end she put it all back together again.

Heartfall is the story of Claire, a girl who for the past 15 years has worked so hard to get where she is today. Her dream since only 4 years old, is to be a ballet dancer. The journey from the time she was four until now has not been an easy one at all. Claire has never seen herself as the beautiful ballerina. And maybe that has a lot to do with the bullying that she has had to deal with over the years or that her ballet teacher always made her feel anything but beautiful. She never felt like she was the best at what she did. And honestly if it wasn’t for certain people in her life like Sebastian, The Reyes', Liam and even her mother at times, I am not sure she would have ever looked in the mirror and seen a beautiful person staring back at her.

I loved Claire and I think she is a character that so many people (girls and women) can relate to on so many levels. Her feelings and insecurities were just so real and so raw that I felt it all too. I went thorugh the pain and the hurt with her. I wanted to see her shine and realize just how beautiful she really was and that she was so much better than the “mean girls” and not just in ballet. I know what it is like to look in the mirror and see all of your imperfections. And when you have people like the mean girls who just make it that much worse you become this person who doesn’t believe in themself. And that is what Claire has gone through for a majority of her life.

She has had a few people by her side, specifically Sebastian and Liam. I am not going to tell you the role that either one of them played but they were both amazing people. Sebastion and Liam both saw Claire as so much more than what she saw. They saw the physical beauty but also the beauty within. Sebastian is the childhood friend who made her feel beautiful and loved and cherished. Liam is the guy who later on in life helped her to heal and believe in herself again. They were both so different but yet both played such important roles in Claire’s life. I loved them both and was so happy that she found them and they were a part of her life.

Heartfall is an emotional and beautiful story about real life. It is about the tough decisions, the hurt, the pain but also about the love and happy moments as well. It is about a girl who was so beautiful on the inside and out but she just couldn’t see it. It is about healing and learning to believe in yourself. It is a story that may hit very close to home for some people. But most of all it was a story that completely touched me in so many ways. JB McGee’s writing was flawless. I am not even sure that my words even do this book justice. It is so hard for me to write this review because of spoilers but I will just say that this book was simply amazing. It will make you feel. It will make you laugh and cry. It will rip your heart out but in the end it is all worth it because your heart will be put back together again. But only after Ms. McGee manages to completely shock you in a way that I had to read it twice to make sure I read it all correctly. What an amazing journey this was!! Heartfall is one of my tops reads this year!!

"I'll love you a second past forever" One quote that will probably stay with me forever.

Heartfall is J.B. McGee's best work. I had mentally prepared myself what this book would do to my heart before I began reading. I usually try not read comments or spoilers, especially for a highly anticipated book, but I could not help myself. To say I was excited really didn't describe it, and then J.B. offers to send me an ARC! Um...yes, please. Any book you read by J.B. McGee, you are investing 100% your heart and soul into reading because that is what she gives back to her readers. You know when you feel strange and your heart seems to beat a bit faster? and then breath quickens and you just know something Big is going to happen? This entire book kept me on the edge of my seat. I even messaged J.B. and asked her for a hint on what was going to happen, and of course, she refused me and probably laughed maniacally behind her computer screen. You know what? I'm glad she didn't tell me anything because that would have ruined it for me. Every once in a while, a book couple grabs you by the throat and does not let go. In this book, it was Claire and Sebastian.

Claire, a beautiful and inspiring young woman from the age of four, just wanted to dance and follow her dreams. Unfortunately, chasing that dream was blocked by competitors who knew nothing of team work, loyalty, compassion, and love. They were bullies and their hate was thrown at Claire anytime they could do it, even a long life friend turned her back on her. When you have people in your life that never stop telling you negative, sometimes its hard to believe the good and the positive. This was Claire's MO, and she had it down perfectly, until Sebastian opened her eyes to what he saw every time he looked at her, and watched her dance. It was his encouragement, support, belief that she was so much more than the haters told her.

He lifted her up into a perfect Pas de Deux. Two bodies perfectly synchronized together, and then the same for their hearts. Finally! Claire found someone that saw the 'more' and all he asked in return was for her to trust him, and she did, until fate had other plans for the young lovers.

This is where you really need to have tissues, chocolate, peanut butter, wine, and pretty much a well stocked kitchen to get through the rest of this book. I'm going to leave this review in cliff hanger mode for you because like J.B., I will not spoil this book for you. I write for a living. I read every single day. Please trust me when I say you will not be disappointed when you invest in this book. It is a book that will stay with you for a long time, the best books often do.

I will say this: Expect the unexpected. Twists, turns, and revelations. You see where I am going with this? READ HEARTFALL. YOU WILL LOVE IT. Thank you J.B. for sharing your work and your heart with the world. I was honored to read it.

Wow, this was a breathtaking, beautifully written story, J.B. McGee!! I don't think my review will do it justice, but I will try.

Claire Ross faces the problems many of our young ones face nowadays: bullying, self-worth issues, betrayal and trying to get up every time she's knocked down. For being a teenager, Claire's attitude and thinking is that of a mature adult, always worrying how she’d be able to continue to chase her dream of being a ballet dancer. I loved her determination to not let life stop her from pursuing her dream.

I also loved Sebastian's protectiveness towards Claire, not caring if it would cost him dancing. The friendship between both of them was sweet, strong, dreamy. Hey, we all need that one special person in our life to fight for us when we don't have the strength to fight for ourselves!

I must say that Claire was so fortunate to have such wonderfully strong people in her life, who fought for her and were there for her when she felt alone. I won't give more away but be prepared—when you start reading this, it will have you smiling and crying at the same time; it will have you rooting for Claire to get her HEA.

I'm still in awe of how much this story touched me and will continue to touch me the next time I read it. ~ Kara, 5 Beautiful stars

This book gave me all the feels. ALL THE FEELS! One minute I am bawling my eyes out, the next I’m grinning like a hyena, then I’m fanning myself from the heat, until finally I’m swooning. It was just so good!

“I think you’re at war with yourself.” He kisses my nose. “Because I think you know you’re beautiful deep down, but people have buried you with so many hateful words that you’re lost beneath them.”

Claire is a ballerina; she has been since she was four years old. But she is not the correct body type, her hair is all wrong, and she eats the wrong foods. But that doesn’t stop others from seeing the beauty, both inside and out of her.

“So beautiful. Your words, your dance, your body, your soul. Everything.”

I absolutely adored this book. I am a huge fan of dancers; mainly because I can’t dance and am extremely fascinated by those who can, so I was immediately drawn in. But I loved how it was written in three very distinct parts. I loved the twist thrown in at the end. I loved how relatable Claire was to myself, as a girl/woman not a dancer. And I have a thing for second chances.

Seriously, this was a great book and I can’t wait to try more from this author! ~ Tiffany, 4.5 stars

[I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review]

I don’t understand how a single (not to mention, a standalone) novel can leave you this awestruck. Splintering your heart into a million pieces and turning you into a bawling, sobbing mess halfway through the book then mending the pieces back together and leaving you with a hell of a plot twist at the end.

The impact this book had on me was incredible. I did not expect my first author/publisher-provided copy of a book to be this mind-blowing, but who’s complaining?

The fact that J.B. McGee herself has went through some of the issues Claire has went through, (which I suppose is what inspired McGee to write this beautiful novel), only made everything feel more genuine and real. We all have our insecurities, and I think that Claire’s inner voice in the beginning of the story reflected our own. And I believe that every single girl deserves to have at least one Sebastian that could tell her how beautiful she is, to divert her vision from her imperfections to her excellence.

What I mostly loved about this book is the fact that Claire’s past was a huge part of this novel. The author didn’t just fast-forward to when Claire became in college while writing flashbacks to where she was sixteen. So I loved how McGee devoted half of the book to the sixteen-year-old Claire and took her time with her story. The fact that Claire gets a second chance after her tragic accident moved me and touched my heart. People don’t often allow themselves second chances but I loved how Claire tried her best to seek for happiness after what happened to her.

I desperately wanted redemption for Claire and her mom’s relationship, she is her mother after all. The epilogue was sort of confusing, I just wished it could’ve been a little longer and simpler. But overall, I absolutely loved this book. It was so unique and totally gorgeous. Loved the whole concept. The different messages it held. Looking forward to reading more books by J.B. McGee.

This book was amazing! I went into it not sure what to expect but after only a few pages I was hooked and I couldn’t put it down. I wanted so much for Claire and I loved Sebastian he was so sweet and perfect, he and Claire fit so well.

There is so much that I want to say but I feel like I would give way too much about the story and what happens. All I can say is that even though it broke my heart it fixed it and I would read it again no matter the hurt and sadness I felt, there was light and the light was so so good that it out weighed the dark.

This is the first that I have read from this author, her writing was great and story telling even better. One thing that seems to be hit and miss is yearning between characters and this had that. even though something weren’t too explicit and were more fade to black this book was full of yearning attraction between Claire and her suitor. I became so emotionally invested in Claire that I got lost in the story, and I kind of want to crawl back into it and get lost again.

I can’t say enough about how good this book is, you just have to grab a copy and see for yourself. So far this is one of my favorites this year!!

I love J.B. but I had no intention of reviewing this book. It's not that I didn't want to but I have a lot going on and I didn't know if I would be able to get to it.

**SPOILERS**

(I don't normally do spoilers but this may allude to some things)

I connected with Claire from the beginning. I felt her pain when her friend chose the "mean girls" over her. I have lost so many "friends" over the years who chose a moment of cool over a lifetime of true. It is a sad testament to life when true friendship is so hard to find.

Sebastian had me stumped for a minute. I honestly thought he was playing her. There are guys who take advantage of the girl who struggles with her looks or weight and I thought he was one of them. I am so glad to know that he was real and his love was true.

I am going to stop there with my review because this is one of those books you have to read. DO NOT ADD TO YOUR TBR LIST--READ IT!!!

There were twists and turns in this story that I did not see coming and it left me ripped open and screaming for more. Love is a delicate balance and sometimes you just have to let go and fall.

It has been awhile since I've read a book in the young adult (YA)/coming-of-age genre and Heartfall was a pretty nice reminder of what makes these books special. Part one was pure perfection. It accurately described the feelings associated with being bullied and the toll it can take on one's self-esteem. Part one also nostalgically puts the reader back in time when they first fell in love and then subsequently the first heartbreak.

But, when part one ended the disconnect began. It became like a tale of two stories. The emotional connection with Claire was gone and I assumed the ending long before it ended. McGee is a talented author as evidenced in part one of the book and how she wrote Claire's character. It's a tale that should be read by young women so they know (even though this is fiction) that they can bounce back after the bullying and their first heartbreak.

Wow....this book is awesome! This book will break your heart & then put it back together. The feeling roll coaster this book will take you on will be.... happy, sad, broken hearted, put the book down mad & so many more....but so worth it! Clarie is such a strong person...who has to fight so hard when the odds are against you, she lost so much & has to make selfless choices. I admire her strength. Soul are crushed...Soul connected. Second chances are worth fighting for. J.B amazing job...writing a book anybody can connect to!

I loved this book!! Half way in I'm crying like a fool. I loved how the whole story connected. That epilogue!! Holy cow! In this story we have Sebastian and Claire. 2 ballet dancers who've known each other their whole lives and finally connect. She's bullied by the mean girls and her teacher has messed with her head about her self image. Sebastian is her savior. Together they fall in love. This is their journey toward love. I don't want to give too much away. Some points had me wondering why he made the choices he did. All in all a very good book

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. WOW what an amazing book I could not put it down! This was an emotional roller coaster of epic proportions. It was beautifully written. This was my first read by J B McGee and it will not be my last. I was completely blown away. She ripped my heart out only to put it back together. I highly recommend this book!

Four and a half stars for this very angsty book that will put you through all the feels. There are clever twists and turns and a few WTAF moments. I had to read the epilogue twice to try to flush it all out. Great read!

Great story. It made me happy, sad, mad...all of the above. lol Teen love is so strong and pulls at the heart strings. I've been there done that, so I understand how it can be. Great read for anyone who likes young romance. It's a good story line, and I think it's relatable to a lot of people.

WOW What a phenomenal 5+ star read

Heartfall by JB McGee photo Heartfall_zpspiizphwq.png

This was my first JB McGee book to read and what a book to read first. I cannot believe I have not read anything by this author yet and kicking myself for not picking something up before now. But at the same time I am grinning from ear to ear and giddy about the fact that this book was the book to be my first JB McGee.

I truly don’t now how she ever managed to survive so many years dealing with it and it not totally break her beyond repair. Then to have her only face such a horrible tragedy and to have her survive it but also be so selfless just truly astounded me.

There were so many more amazing characters in this story that I absolutely loved and that truly made this story so amazing. From Sebastian and Miss Celeste to Avery and Liam, they were all such great support for Claire, helping truly see the beautiful person she was and help her become who she was truly meant to be. But I have to say, I don’t think I have truly ever hated a character more than Audrina. To be so hateful towards Claire for so long but then to only continue it after all that had happened, I truly can’t ever imagine someone being that down right hateful.

Blurb:

Claire Ross has never been good enough. Not for the girls in the elite group of dancers in her class and certainly not for the approval of her ballet teacher, Mr. Robins. She definitely doesn’t like what she sees in the mirror. Simply put, she doesn’t love herself, so how could she possibly love someone else?

After twelve years of friendship, Sebastian Reyes’ adoring gaze holds more. They soon find themselves unable to control their feelings for one another.

When tragedy strikes, Claire finds herself in a very unlikely and unfavorable position. Regardless of the weight of the emotion, she must make difficult decisions that impact the rest of her life.

Will Claire see that her true love has been right in front of her? Happily ever after isn’t just for fairy tales. To get hers, all she has to do is trust, open her heart and fall.

Review:
“I’m not ready for this. Yes, you are. The only way to ever ride a horse again after you fall off is to immediately get back on. You were off too long. So, mount that fine specimen of a stallion and ride him.”

4 tragic stars!!! Beautifully told.

Claire feels like she’s never been good enough for anyone. She’s over trying to prove herself to her dance class and to her ballet teacher. Claire has a hard time loving herself, so there’s no way in hll anyone will ever love her back….. Right?? Sebastian and Claire have been friends for years, and secretly he’s been in love with Claire, but because she’s so down on herself, she doesn’t see it. Then tragedy strikes Claire and the only person she can lean on is Sebastian. Can she realize that the man who loves her is right in front of her very eyes??

This book was emotional and beautiful!! You’ll find yourself wiping your eyes and hugging your kindle as you read. (Please tell me I’m not the only one who did this). I was sucked into this book and couldn’t put it down until the end!! I’m in love!

Let me preface this review by saying, I usually avoid blurbs right before I read a book. I sign up to do tons of reviews. I buy books like they are going out of style and grab free ones that sound good because why not! So if the book is on my kindle it is because I already wanted to read it, right? So I didn't re-read the blurb right before reading this book.

Heartfall- the title alone made me wary and I knew that it would be rough. If I had read the blurb, I would have been more prepared...maybe. But the truth is, Claire is wary. She has her guard up constantly. She makes you doubt everything. The author has made you into the insecure teen you are reading. It is often difficult for me to be pulled into the character's role. I love books and I read a lot. I connect with many but so few suck me in and take me along for he ride. This is one of those books. I felt every insecurity, every doubt, and every tear of Claire's.

Claire has a difficult time believing in herself and the motives of those around her. She has been bullied her whole life and questions the kindness of others even more now that her best friend turned on her. She is afraid and fears being friendless. But she never realized that she isn't alone- not until Sebastian points it out.

Sebastian has always been there. He becomes more. He becomes a real friend. He becomes her hopes, her heart, and her love. He is everything to Claire until he isn't any more. (Is it sad that I am getting tears typing this too?)

Heartfall is broken up into two parts-Young Adult Claire and New Adult Claire. You will find that your heart won't be protected either despite how old Claire is.

There are plenty of warning signs in each part of the book as to the direction it is going. But blind hope and love lead you where you want Claire to go.

Does this book end the way it should? Absolutely!
Will I tell you how? Nope.
Does everyone get what they want? Shrug.
Will you cry? Yes (well that is if you still have a heart)
Hey...

It is a tragically beautiful story. It is one of the ones that will haunt you long after you read it but it is well worth the pain.

Dear J.B. McGee,
I am sorry you had a world filled with the Audrinas, Nickys, and Tiffanys, but I am sure you know by now that you are not alone. I too lived in a world like that and I have never danced. Life is some times cruel but as long as you find the Sebastians, the Miss Celestes, and the Liams its worth living. For all those that haven't yet, don't give up. They are worth the wait!
