Boston is on its knees: one hundred sixteen infected, eighty-two dead. There is no sign that the attacks from the Dark will stop anytime soon.
In training with the FBI’s Reaper Team, Delilah Dalton and Milly Shores—two nineteen year olds with gifts to deal with the dead and the Dark—are caught up in the gruesome case. A case that will push their abilities to the limit. If the team can’t stop the killing soon, South Boston will be nothing but a blood-drenched feeding ground for dark beasts.
This is a very quick and I finished in in one evening. Looking for a bit of dark fantasy I got here, but there was no romance. I'm okay with that since I didn't think there would be. The book isn't billed as a romance. This story was another interesting take on ghosts and demons and psychics.
The MCs are after something that's infecting humans so it can steal their energy and use the spirits for their own end. There is plenty of explanation so despite being merely dumped right into the action, we still can understand what's going on and we figure out the why right along with the characters.
I enjoyed the story, and the fact I didn't expect the culprit to be so close to the situation.
It's a nice read and I recommend Ghoultown to fans of this kind of fantasy. October Weeks does a good job of making keeping the reader clued into the nuances of the psychics of her world--too good at times. I say this because some of it just slows down the flow a little bit at times.
I would like to have seen a little more interactions aside from the ghost hunting. Such as the characters relaxing for more than a breath and just shooting the breeze about life and love. But this story is short so I guess staying on task was important.
This is a short but good read. Fast paced and gripping. Keeps you turning the pages to see what happens next. October Weeks keeps her readers in their toes. If you haven't read Ghoultown, you really should. If you like ghosts and ghouls, this is the book for you.
