Falling in love isn’t something wolf shifters do with just anyone. They have only one mate for life. So what is wrong with Chloe Grey? As a twenty-three-year-old female shifter, she’s already past her mating prime when she scents Erik Smith, the local sheriff. While she’s attracted to him her mating instincts don’t kick in. Are her instincts off or is he not meant for her?
From the moment they met, Erik can’t stop loving the Alpha’s sister. Seeing Chloe has become a must, but he knows the pain of watching her find her mate will kill him. He’s torn between staying or moving on away from Wolfe’s Creek.
The unbearable reality of an impossible future together forces them to snip at each other’s throats. By the time Wolfe’s Den opens up, both of them are at their breaking point. Can they be wrong about their feelings or will fate step in and make things right?
Although it’s standalone, it’s the 2nd book in the Wolfe Creek Series.

Personal Overview
Chloe is the younger sister of the pack's Alpha, she is very strong, independent, and the president of their companies. She also is very feminine and has a passion for shoes (don't we all? ;) ). She follows all the guidelines of a successful businesswoman. Erik was hired by the Alpha as the new sheriff, coming from a job in the Force in the city. He may not be Alpha in the pack, but, as usual in C. M. Steele's Hs, he fits the 'alpha male character' to a T. On the moment of Erik's arrival to town, he meets Chloe, and that instantly drawn to each other. The problem is that none of their wolves manifests themselves, there is no mating fever, so they feel extremely disappointed that they aren't mates. Since they aren't able to fight their mutual pull, they form a very strong friendship, where they spend most of their free time together. The problem is that with the constant contact, their feelings to the other, become more and more intense.
“It’s been one helluva long year of loving a woman that doesn’t belong to me. Chloe has owned my heart since we first met.”
“I love her with all that I am, but that love isn’t enough.”
After one year of friendship, their love is undeniable, but they both suffer with the worry of the other finding his/her mate, and the jealousy and sexual attraction is very strong. They are both in pain due to that.
“In that moment, I know I’m going to love her forever, even if she can never be mine.”
Fortunately, when some events take place, they find out that their wish came true, and they are indeed mates. All the longing and repressed sexual attraction, explodes and ends up making their sex scenes even steamier!
As expected from the author (and I thank you for that) it's a feel good kind of story, with good and loyal characters, with a alpha H, and with a lot of hot scenes. Adding this with both characters being virgins, which is always a plus, in my book, it creates a guaranteed great story. IMO, this book's editing ( my only recurrent problem with this author's books) was much better, still not perfect, but with a good improvement. I would also like to point out, that I loved the way she explained/hinted why a virgin lover doesn't have to mean a poor lover. Instead of following the disgusting and trendy manwhore motto, that the H has a magic dick and is the best lover ever because he fucked everything that moves. For me that just means he's a walking STD risk.
“I used to watch porn because I wanted to learn for when I finally met my mate, but now I can’t even consider it. Visions of Chloe with a man that isn’t me get into my head.”
Anyway I just want to say kudos to you, C. M. Steele, for such loyal characters, and not going along with the infuriating trend! You have definitely become one of my go-to authors when I'm in a mood for OTT males and a feel good story (which happens so many times)! I look forward to the rest of the gang's stories!
Yes, he's a Beta of their pack but he's definitely an alpha when it comes to his mate. Loving this series!
The story is about Erik and Chloe.
Erik is the new Sheriff and Chloe is the President of their family company, Grey Corp. She's also the younger sister of their Alpha (book1 H).
When wolf shifters scent their mate, there's no stopping their desire to mate so when Erik and Chloe met, even though they felt something, they thought they're not fated mates because their wolves aren't responding to him/her.
Their mating instinct waited until he became the Beta which means it took them a year before they finally mated.
I know, I know. What is wrong with me, right? Sorry! This author rarely works for me (although I did like the last book).
The writing was just not compelling, the characters were boring, the transitions between POVs were awkward and confusing and I still have no clue why they did not know they were mates for the first year of knowing each other.
Super duper safe book though. Virgin hero and heroine.
3.5stars. For the most part enjoyed this. I wanted to know why they couldn't mate for that whole year but I guess erik says he needed to be worhty . that wasn't enough explanation for me.lol besides that this was a sweet, hot read. Im curious about Kane and why his mate boobs were all over the tv I hope they weren't bare.lol
YESS! C.M. Steele is back! Lately I've found her books kinda meh-ish, but this one reminded me of some of her earlier ones that I loved.
Eric and Chloe were kinda adorable. I love how their friendship morphed into more. I also enjoyed the side characters that we got to see teasers of for potential relationships in her future books!
A sweet love story of our MCs, who start out as friends and soon fall madly in love with one another. The H is the sheriff, the h the alpha's sister. Both feel attracted to each other, but when the mating pull does not kick in, fear that they might not be mates. Heartbroken, they try to push each other away only for fate to step in and fulfill their desires. There is some pack drama, as the H is chosen to step into the role of Beta wolf, but all ends in a HEA.
I loved this story! I had been waiting for Chloe and Erik's story. I thought it was awesome how they started! When reading the first book with Hunter and Catherine we only had the clue of the two of them at the end of their story.
I loved the twist at the beginning of the story and how it ends almost at the same time as Hunter and Catherine!
This is one story where both the hero and heroine are so meant to be together it's nuts. They actually have a real relationship and they care about each other's thoughts and opinions. Wow really and oh did I mention they have the most wicked wild sex when they finally mate. Wow hot cup of coffee time. No need for tough man attitude with her she is on equal footing and I loved it. I like it when they respect each and grow into loving each other. Oh also he was OTT from the beginning of their friendship. It was nuts. How he just could not let her go!? They are so tortured be their feelings it's nuts. Loved it c
While this was a quick read I found it to be very choppy. The overall storyline wasn't bad but it had no real high points. The moments where it could have been exciting were just BLAH!! Book 2 was not as good as book 1 and I would be very curious to see if a 3rd book is written.
This is the second book in the Wolfe Creek series by C.M. Steele. Chloe is the Alpha's (Hunter) little sister and Gage is her twin brother. She's the President of the family company, Grey Corporation. Erik Smith used to be a Police Officer in Seattle but being a wolf shifter he found it difficult not to shift with some of the assholes he dealt with. He decided to move to Wolfe Creek where he was offered the job as town sheriff and most of the residents were shifters also. Erik and Chloe both feel a pull towards one another put it's not nearly as strong as the mating heat so they're both confused. The more time they spend together the more they fall in love and the more they dread the other one finding their mate. Erik wants to quit his job and move somewhere else because he knows there's no way he will be able to stand by and watch Chloe find her mate.
Beta; her alpha is book two in the Wolfe creek series. This story is Chloe, Hunter from book one’s sisters story. It is short, fast paced and a nice read. Chloe and Hunter have wanted one another for a year. But with no mating instinct for one another, they cannot be together. Settling as friends only works for a little while because their feelings for one another are hard to not act on. When the full moon hits, Chloe and Hunter’s mating instinct kicks in and they realise they are meant for one another like had hoped. The chemistry between Chloe and Hunter was clear to see and I liked them as a couple. Although I wanted them to be together, I liked the first half of this story where they’re just friends. I liked seeing the friendship and the attraction progress. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and a nice read. I cannot wait to read more books from this series.
Once again the author has done a splendid job with the book. It has an amazing story with lots of emotions... Heartbreak, longing, love, sorrow, happiness. In the previous book, we have seen Chloe as strong sophisticated women who doesn't take shit from anyone, is head strong, hard working and loves her family. In this book, we see her vulnerability which makes you love her character even more. Erick on the other hand was kind of mystery in the previous book as not much was mentioned about him. It's beautiful to read how they fall in love not understanding their emotions and then later become mates. They go through hardships together making them stronger. It was a great read.😁
This is an amazing series. I've read it many times since it was first published. C.M. Steele has created a wonderful world of shifters, hiding away from humans. Erik Smith is the Sheriff and newly realized Beta of the pack. Chloe is the alpha's sister, and very strong in her own right. This book follows the same format as the first - funny, sexy, intriguing, with a dash of danger. LOVE this series!
This review was hard for me because I love supernatural romance and werewolves are a soft spot in particular (thanks for that Kelley Armstrong!). But Beta: Her Alpha by C.M.Steele just didn’t do it for me. I’ll break it down later to explain which bits worked for me and what didn’t. But I just want to reaffirm that these reviews are subjective and are based upon my opinions, dislikes and likes. That doesn’t mean someone else won’t read it and give it a 5* review.
I felt like the concept for the novel was there. There is a werewolf clan and the book follows Chloe, the sister of the Alpha and Erik, another werewolf in the clan who later turns out to be the beta. In C.M.Steele’s world, werewolves can’t have sex with anyone who is not their mate. They can instantly tell when someone is their mate and they go into a frenzied heat. Chloe and Erik are attracted to each to her, but aren’t mates, so they can’t have sex and they struggle with the consequences of that. On top of that someone has a grudge against Erik and family issues mean that he is viewed as a betrayer by certain family members. This later proves dangerous to Erik in the book.
Now on to the review part, I’m going to use the concepts of WWW (what went well) and EBI (even better if) so that I can formulate my review better.
What worked well was the concept – I liked that there were two people who desperately wanted to be together but couldn’t because they weren’t each other’s mate. I loved the idea that she was the Alpha’s sister and I think more could have been done with that. Then there are the warring factions within the packs as the two families feel hostility towards each other. This was a good idea and I would love to have seen more of this. However I feel like the author can see it all in her mind, how everything plays out, and in writing it down leaves out crucial aspects as she forgets we’re not in her head with her. Also she adds a lot of information in after the fact, for example Chloe’s dream about Erik – that should have come in before she found out exactly what happened to him, and it would have had a better effect and reinforced their bond. The information about wolf healing also could have been brought in sooner, not after he’s already starting to recover. This goes back to the author assuming that we already know what she does.
Another EBI for me would be if more was made out of her being the Alpha’s sister. It felt like her brother just popped up through out the book and occasionally made a remark about being able to hear them and then disappeared again.
The same goes for the actual chemistry between Chloe and Erik. I wanted more of the build-up in their relationship; instead I felt a little cheated with a ‘Eight months later…’ and the ‘Four months later…’ parts. I wanted to see their attraction develop and see more of the issues they faced. Not only that but I felt as though their dynamic wasn’t given enough space before the issues of potentially finding other mates came up, so it felt like for a large chunk of the book they were just making each other miserable with bickering, fighting and crying. For example when Chloe gets asked out on a date by a human, I felt that this part could have been used to explore her relationship with Erik more. I felt like she should have gone and he should have turned up in some desperate attempt to regain control and perhaps something comical happens, like she pours her soup over him. Instead she tells him she’s going on a date, he tells her she isn’t. So she doesn’t. If asserting his dominance as ‘Her Alpha’ was important then I assumed that she would be stubborn and feisty as he tries to exert control. But it just fell a little flat. Like I said, the potential was there but it just wasn’t executed to its full capacity.
Now with regards to the sex in the book, it’s steamy but a few little phrases just didn’t work for me. I understand that they are werewolves, so I was expecting animalistic aspects and possibly a focus upon having babies. Most supernatural romance novels have this focus upon reproduction, however when I’m enjoying reading a sex scene, a phrase like ‘I beg for his pups in me’ or even ‘breeding her’, pulls me back out of the narrative. I think if this was introduced before the sex scene or even in their thoughts afterwards then I could handle it, but actually during the sexy bits puts me off.
My final point is a big one, I felt like the book was anti-climactic. The danger and the conflict in the novel were side-lined to the point where it was almost pointless. Cat’s kidnap just didn’t evoke anything in me and it was quickly handled. The same for Ryan’s end, it just felt like the writer forgot there was a conflict and decided that the quickest way to resolve it was to have the antagonist show up and our hero pop two bullets into him. Boom. Ended.
This book has potential, I like the idea and some of the set-up, however it just didn’t meet my expectations and left me wanting more information, build up and storyline. I would try this author again because the ideas are there, but the execution needs some fine tuning. I’ve given it 2 stars because in regards to our star rating system, that’s where it fits best.

I don't know why Erik didn't listen to his instincts about Ryan. Waiting so long almost cost him his life and his poor mate witnessed his shooting. Chloe almost lost it when she realized her dreams were real and Erik had been shot. Ryan should have been under suspicion since Rocky betrayed them.
Book two in this Wolfe creek series sees a continuation of the storyline and characters from book one . I enjoyed this story and love the hot Alpha bossy ways of the men of Wolfe creek regardless if they are Alpha , Beta , or just a deputy. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Not bad considering it was such a short book. But I really didn't understand why it took them one year to finally recognized they were mates. They were already past their "prime" so why did Erik need to be deserving of Chloe before they mated. Nothing special really happened or changed for Erik so it was a dumb explanation.
Mehhh not as good as the first in the series. I think I got annoyed with all the push and pull by Chloe and Erik. Meanwhile I understood why it was happening but it made me sad to hear their internal thoughts and watch them struggle.
Sweet story. I wish it didn't jump around as much as it did, and the different POVs would have been labeled, but that isn't a huge deal. I definitely enjoyed this story more than the first. I really loved this couple together
I really enjoyed this. This friendship was beautiful and developed into such a sexy love. The story was a little erratic, with characters and storyline’s introduced willy nilly. Still, it was a fun time and I do recommend.
Good. I wish that it was more clear at the start of the paragraphs who's point of view we where reading from but after a couple of pages it was fine. :)
I have read this story so many times!! I absolutely love Chloe and Eric!! I love the angst and the moment they realize they are meant for each other after all
