"Killer Road Trip" - (Episode 5 in the Sweet Southern Sleuths Short Stories): A Cozy Mysteries Women Sleuths Series
An amateur sleuth, her eccentric uncle, and a road trip that turns deadly.
While still in Las Vegas, Loretta Sweet and (Uncle) Ichabod McCoy decide to do a little sightseeing and pay a visit to the Hoover Dam via a guided bus tour.
The trip is wrought with mishaps, starting with the bus breaking down. The driver is able to fix the bus and the passengers climb aboard for the final leg of the trip.
Uncle Ichabod and Loretta, who are the last to board, discover they are unable to sit together and Loretta ends up next to a passenger who is quiet, and for good reason...he's dead.
Loretta, once again, finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Will her final destination be the local jail?
The sisters have two days left in Vegas after finding their uncle. Lacy wants to gamble so Loretta and her uncle take a bus tour to see the dam. When they get off the bus she finds her seat mate is dead. She becomes the prime suspect.
Killer Road Trip is the fifth book in Hope Callaghan’s Sweet Southern Sleuths Cozy Mystery Series and has a well-plotted storyline, well-developed characters, and an interesting murder to solve. There is no adult language, graphic violence, or sexually explicit scenes. This short story is an easy read, it held my interest, and had me laughing out loud at times. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading light, cozy Christian mysteries.
Loretta and Lacy Sweet and their uncle, Ichabod McCoy, are still in Las Vegas and Loretta and Uncle Ichabod have decided to tour Hoover Dam. The tour bus breaks down and Loretta is hot and regrets having had so many cups of coffee that morning. They are the last tourists to re-board the bus once it’s repaired and the only seats they can find are in the rear of the bus and they are unable to sit together. Uncle Ichabod takes the seat next to an unhappy woman and Loretta takes the seat next to a man who appears to be sleeping. When the bus arrives at a parking lot near the dam and visitor center and they are waiting their turn to get off, Loretta decides to wake up her seatmate. The only problem is that he’s not waking up and Loretta soon discovers that he’s dead. An official investigation ensues and Loretta fears her Uncle and she are being set up to take the fall. They put on their sleuthing caps and set out to find the guilty party.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was fast paced. Not boring and the characters were great. The culprit of the mystery, whodunnit, was again, not revealed until the very last few pages. I liked the flow and detailed description of the mystery people. This was another great short story that kept my attention. I recommend this to anyone who would appreciate a fast paced mystery that keeps you wondering who did the dastardly deed. It was a surprise and that is a good way to end a mystery. Thanks Hope. You NEVER let me down with any of your works. God bless and please continue to wow me and your readers with your Christian talents.
Even though this was a short book, only 49 pages, I thought it was a really good read. I mean it started out from the very first chapter with a murder and of course Loretta and Uncle Icabod are right smack in the middle but this time Loretta is a suspect and needs to solve this murder so she can head home. This picked right up after book 4 and even though this case was solved in one day it was a very good read. I had no idea who committed the murder but of course when you find out why, you are just like wow people are cold. Very good read and I can not wait to read the next book
