Sure maybe I added this one as a Hail Mary to get myself to the measly goal of 25 books. But honestly this book was probably the best textbook I’ve read in a long time. It is no secret that the DSM 5 TR in all her 1000+ pages of glory is complex and intense. The jargon is cold and calculated and often times reading it for more than 30 minutes makes you more confused than when you started. This text takes the complex and simplifies it by breaking it down into easy to read sections. It’s the same material…delivered in an easier form. I am forever grateful I decided to buy this one not rent it and I know that I will be referring to its contents for years to come as I am becoming a counselor. So yeah, my friends on here probably won’t be rushing to place an order for “Selecting Effective Treatments” but it has helped me and all of my cohort :)
I definitely just added this book so that I felt less guilty about the fact that I hadn’t been reading very much this summer. However, I found this textbook to be clear, well organized, and comprehensive. Definitely a textbook everyone in the counseling world would benefit from reading.
