With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.

"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."

The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.

Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.

A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.

In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.

When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.

One month ago, Ken Miller, a minister in a Chicago suburb, was shot dead in a downtown Chicago barrio while doing counseling at the Yo, Amigo outreach center. The police are leaning toward a random drive-by shooting as the reason but Ken’s wife, Dana, is certain that the reason is far more specific. She is certain that his death is a direct result of his association with Rick Sanchez, an ex-gang leader and the founder of Yo, Amigo. And she is certain that Sanchez is both complicit in the death and hiding evidence that points to the actual shooter.

A former PI with a formidable reputation for getting results, Dana leaves her three young sons with her parents in Florida and returns to Chicago to investigate the case on her own. Before she even unpacks from the flight, in the middle of the night, she breaks into Yo, Amigo and is caught by Rick Sanchez himself.

Rick Sanchez is grief stricken over Ken Miller’s death. He had considered Ken his best friend and they had worked together at the center for several years. The intensity of police scrutiny, since the murder, has nearly destroyed the center’s effectiveness with the local youth already. And now, as he physically struggles with Dana, he learns that her purpose is not only to find the murderer but also to personally destroy him and the center as revenge and retribution for Ken’s death.

Sherryl Woods knows how to write guilt, hate and self-righteous anger. In fact, she actually does too good a job of it. In this novel, Dana is not written as one who is filled with the normal grief and anger that often accompanies a sudden or violent death. She is written as a person, with emotional blinders on, looking to lay blame, and filled with both a hatred for and a cultural bias against those who took her husband’s time and eventually his life away from her and their family. She also blames God as much as Sanchez for letting such a bad thing happen to such a good person. And she is portrayed as a vicious harpy, always accusing, always jumping to unwarranted conclusions, never listening to alternate possibilities, never seeing anything that threatens her pre-conceived notions, and never ever apologizing when she is repeatedly proven wrong.

Frankly, I was fed up with Dana’s character long before the first 100 pages were complete. Normally, when I encounter a main protagonist who is supposed to be a flawed but honorable heroine, but is, instead, an unrepentant shrew, I simply shelve the book and move on. But this time, I plowed on, in part, because Sanchez’s character is written well. He is flawed, he is angry, he is grief-stricken, but he is intelligent, determined, and in control of himself. He thinks first, acts second, and takes responsibility for those actions. And the characters of Kate, Dana’s best friend, and O’Flannery, the detective, are quite well done also.

So, for over 350 pages, Woods lets the shrew run wild – selfish, self-centered, self-involved and self-pitying. Woods tries to explain what Rick Sanchez sees in her, beneath the surface of her scathing words and attitude, but she comes up short as she leans too heavily on sexual attraction. However, since this work is classified as a romantic suspense, the guy has to love the girl anyway.

Unfortunately, Woods’ characterization of Dana Miller is not the only problem I have with this book. The story has too many contrivances and coincidences that ultimately require a suspension of disbelief and some eye rolling to get past. Most of these situations are used to justify emotional scenes between Dana and Rick. For instance, there is a situation where Rick frets over breaking a promise to meet Dana at an agent’s office, making a big deal about not being able to phone her, when all he has to do is leave a message with the agent. But Woods doesn’t have him make the call so that she can write in yet another fight scene and increase Dana’s distrust and angst.

Then there are the scenes where Dana repeatedly tampers with crime scenes and even steals evidence. But she doesn’t get arrested because the detective in charge just happens to be her best friend’s new boyfriend. Uh-huh. Yeah, right.

But the biggest contrivance is the kidnapping of Dana’s son, in Florida, by the murderer, accomplished by luring the child to the winter home of his girlfriend and her children. Realistically, just what are the odds that the bad guy has a house not only in the same far away state but also in the same city and practically on the same street as the in-laws of the man he has murdered? To force the circumstances to the Florida location seems purely to create a long tension-filled flight, a knowing conversation between Rick and Dana’s father, a chance for Rick to be a hero, and a good-by scene that will separate Rick and Dana by thousands of miles.

In the end, Woods does affect a level of transformation in Dana regarding Rick, regarding God, and regarding herself. But that transformation does not come until 6 pages before the end of the book. By that time, it really was a case of too little change too late in the game and there was no joy as I closed the book.

When updating my BOOKS READ LIST today, I saw that I had even inserted an extra line to enter the remark EXCELLENT on the line by this book, w/UNUSUAL st0ry line; by SHERRYL on the inserted line. However, at that point-in-time, I was unfortunately not entering many of the books I had read; or I would have many more BOOKS SHOWING AS READ with my name.

I'm hoping on the next go round of perusing my BOOKS READ LIST, I'll find many more books wherein I actually made note of the date I read the book.

3.5 stars… I can’t figure out if I liked this book or not. It started out good and then it became very rushed and about what felt like could’ve been 6 chapters was written in 1. A very confusing plot and plot twist, while I also expected a romance novel as Woods usually writes, I was entirely thrown off. Would I read again? Probably not. Will I continue reading books by Sherryl Woods? Yes but I hope the next one I do read have more “umph”. A hard read, a good read but not a great read like I expected.

3.5. Good mystery: who killed Ken, the beloved pastor (who worked with ex-gang members in Chicago to rescue them from that dead-end loving) ?
Dani, his wife seeks the murderer and the why.
Some good parts in this story but I had a hard time believing the romance between Rick & Dani. Her temper was a drawback for me too. And the story dragged a bit for me..so I rounded this score down.

Twilight is a romance story with a mystery twist. It all starts when Dana Miller's husband Ken, the minister, is killed. As Dana was once a private investigator, she decides to put her knowledge of investigating to work to find his killer. It's an interesting story. And as everyone who knows me knows, I love a good ending.

Very suspenseful and a great mix of characters.

I’ve never read any of Sherryl’s mysteries before, so this was a very different experience for me. I enjoyed this book very much and could not put it down for very long, before getting back to it.

I’ve read many of Sheryl Woods books before Twigloght, but, in my opinion, this is my favorite. Suspense up to the end, a little love, and a clean read.

New York Times bestselling author Sherryl Woods demonstrates that when faith and love are tested, they often wind up stronger than ever.

For former private investigator Dana Miller, there can be no peace of mind until she finds the person who killed her husband. Now a single mother to three boys, Dana wants closure. But it turns out she'll need to form an alliance with the man she holds responsible for the death. And uncovering answers may mean bringing down the program her husband believed in.

Rick Sanchez has no intention of letting Dana destroy all the good he and Ken Miller worked for. As he and Dana try to learn the truth about what happened, he discovers that he and his old friend have something else in common;an undeniable attraction toward this intrepid, high-spirited woman; who fights for the people she loves.

-- From one of my favorite authors! Usually, a light hearted romance. With lovable characters, family. But this was a bit different. Although I enjoyed it. Wow. Dana and Rick both are 2 strong characters, something Sherryl knows lots about. I highly recommend this book.

I didn't realize it was something that had already been written and just re-released. But I still enjoyed it none the less. Great job as usual! I think fans of Sherryl will still enjoy it!!! I think something not her norm is great!!!

A reissue of an earlier work by author Sherryl Woods, "Twilight" is an entertaining romantic suspense read. Former private investigator Dana Miller's happy marriage came to a tragic end when her beloved husband, Ken, a minister, was brutally murdered in Chicago's gangland territory. After his death, Dana and their three sons retreated to Florida for the comfort of her parents' home. While Dana considered permanently moving to Florida, she couldn't let go of the feeling that she had to return to Chicago to solve Ken's murder and find some measure of peace. Rick Sanchez and Ken Miller had been friends, and the two men had worked together to help gang members reform their lives and find new beginnings. Sanchez continued to run the outreach program after Ken's death, and Dana's instincts told her that Sanchez may have information that could help her investigation into Ken's death. What she didn't expect was the attraction that would grow between her and the man she somehow felt was connected to the murder of her husband. Can a real and lasting love grow from the twilight of tragedy? A strong heroine keeps her faith and family close to her heart in this enjoyable and touching romance from author Sherryl Woods.

Ken Miller was a minister who loved his wife Dana and his three sons. One terrible night while he was helping his friend Rich Sanchez with Yo Amigo, a place where former gang members could come for help and advice he was brutally shot to death.

Dana never really approved of his helping Rick as she felt it was too dangerous and now her fears became true.

What Dana cannot accept is the fact the police are calling it a random drive by shooting. Dana had been a private investigator before she married Ken and must find answers to her questions as to who and why Ken was killed.

Her children are in Florida temporarily so she can investigate his murder and feels safe knowing her parents are taking care of them.

What she does not expect is the feelings and emotions she has towards Rick who runs Yo Amigo. One minute she wants to blame him for her husbands murder and the next thing she is thinking about him in very different ways.

Ms. Woods’s characters are real and will have you wondering from the very beginning who is responsible for her husband’s death? Many suspects seem to be showing up in her investigations and yet she seems to have discovered feelings for Rick she never thought possible. A wonderful read.

My mom gave this novel to read; her favorite genre being romance, clean romance. I enjoy romance reads and have a couple yet to read this month. Like her I do not really want the explicit details, I have an excellent imagination contained within my mind's eye. I was quite surprised that Wood's book, Twilight, has met my standards of intimate revelation. There was a steamy night and some kisses too, but absolutely nothing explicit. Go Sherryl Woods!

This book was actually a mystery romance, with both , Dana Miller and Rick Sanchez trying to ferret out who had slain the honorable Reverend Ken Miller. By joining forces, they formed an unlikely alliance, challenged by mistrust of one another, and strengthened by a bulldog stubbornness to find those precious answers that could lead to truth, trust, and just maybe another shot at love.

I enjoyed this book immensely. The characters were strong and independent and with their conversations you could "hear" that spanish lingo. The plot was well developed and although there were many bodies left for discovery, it was very near the end when the murderers were revealed. It was quite an interesting read.

This is more of a mystery than the romantic novels that Sherryl Woods usually writes although a romance is brewing on the back burner.

When Dana Miller’s husband is killed, she is determined not to rest until she finds his killer. First off her list is Rick Sanchez, head of the Yo! Amigo program for children and teens living in the barrio section of Chicago. Ken Miller was shot and killed while outside the building and the police are convinced it was a drive-by shooting. Dana was furious at the time her husband spent with the teens there but he thought he could help them get out of the gangs and he did. Dana and Rick work together to find the killer but as they get more involved in the investigation, several leads point to members of Ken’s church. How could these upstanding citizens be involved? Dana was about to find out.

Dlm mencari pembunuh suaminya, Dana tdk mencerminkan sbg mantan PI. Tindakannya ceroboh, impulsif, tdk logikal & suka menuduh tanpa bukti hanya berdasarkan feeling. Alasannya sih krn yg terbunuh suaminya, sehingga tdk objektif, tp hei ini kan novel, pembaca khususnya sy pengennya heroine-nya lebih kuat dr kenyataan sebenarnya, namanya jg cerita fiksi, karakternya jg hrs lebih kuat & smart.

Sy lebih tertarik dgn interaksi Dana dgn anak2 bermasalah di komunitas amerika latin atau bgaimana ketiga anak Dana menghadapi kematian ayahnya drpd investigasi pembunuhan yg dilakukan Dana. Sayang porsi cerita yg sy sukai tsb tdk terlalu banyak. Btw sd 1/2 hal, tdk ketahuan pekerjaan atau kehidupan Rick Sanchez selain mengurusi anak2 tsb. Ini kan pekerjaan amal, drmana dia mendptkan uang utk biaya hidup sehari2?

I've read a lot of books by this author and enjoyed every one. I felt while I enjoyed this book it was quite a different storyline for this author. It was a little dark in nature and it took me a while to even get into the storyline there's a lot of conflict between the main characters and there's a definite eerie feel to it. This book is more on the line of murder, mystery and suspense then the light romance I've come to love from this author. That being said once I got into the meat of the story it moved along nicely and was a satisfying read.

 Reprint of earlier book

TWILIGHT is a reprint of a book that author Sherryl Woods originally published in 1997.

I can definitely that Woods has progressed as an author. I just finished "Swan Point (A Sweet Magnolias Novel)" and I rated it a five star read. TWILIGHT was alright but the characters were wooden and the dialogue was stilted. It was alright but not great.

Unless you are a die-hard Woods fan and want to read all the books she has written, I would bypass this selection and read one of her more current books.

NOTE: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. It takes place in Chicago which is different than her southern books. It is more of a mystery and she does a very good job with the storyline. It is hard to trust someone that you had already made up your mind to hate when your husband was murdered. Dana was faced with trusting Rick just like her husband had but it was very hard.

Private investigator Dana Miller sets out to investigate her own husband's murder making this novel more of a mystery than a romance but both elements enrich the plot. The story takes place in Chicago, IL and Tampa, Florida. You can't get much better than to read about a man who leaves a life of crime and becomes a hero.

As a murder mystery I found this a little messy. The main character ,Dana, reacts too quickly and does not like to share evidence she finds with the police. Her grief controls her actions and her fears. Once into the mystery you try to guess and get angry at so call church members. So if you find this book ,read it. It is good.
