Meet Rexerella, a T. rex with two mean prehistoric stepsisters, in this dinosaur version of Cinderella. Will she ever make it to Prince Charmosaurus's ball? Turn the pages to see each dino-sized pop-up in this Jurassic twist on the classic fairy tale!
This is an alternative story to the classic princess story Cinderella. This is exactly the same story as our modern day cinderella story, but it’s told using dinosaurs instead of people. This book is interactive, because it uses pop-ups on each page. This story could be used in grade prep-2 and maybe even grade 3. This story could be used to compare and contrast with our original Cinderella story for older grades. It could even be used as just a simple story time book for all grades identified above.
This parallel story would be appropriate for early elementary children to third grade. The pop-out book tells the story of Rexerella, which is similar to Cinderella. Rexerella’s ugly sisters were getting ready for the ball. Fairy Sauropod magically appeared and changed Rexerella’s clothes into a beautiful gown. She went to the ball and danced with the prince. The clock struck midnight and Rexerella ran out of the ball, leaving one of her slippers behind. The prince searched for Rexerella and eventually found who the slipper belonged to. The two were happily married!
Activities 1. Students will make a “found” poster advertising the slipper as if they are the prince. The poster should include character information describing Rexerella and what she looked like as well. 2. Students will create a plot profile where they rank how exciting the events are in the story. Students will have to write the events that they are plotting on the chart. The teacher should read the original Cinderella story and the class should make a plot profile for that story. As a class compare and contrast the two plots!
This pop-up parallel fairy tale of Cinderella follows Rexerella, a T. Rex dinosaur as she tries to find her destiny. She has two ugly dinosaur sisters which she has to wait on hand and foot. At first Rexerella doesn't get to go to the ball held by Prince Charmosaurus but then she is visited by her Fairy Sauropod who grants her the opportunity to go. She has to be back by midnight. She dances with the prince and then has to leave but not before she accidentally leaves her glass slipper. The prince finds said slipper and searches for the enchanting owner. He finally finds her after slipper didn't fit the ugly sisters. Rexerella and Prince Charmosaurus get married and live happily ever after.
I would use this book in a lesson or unit about alternative fairy tales. You could also use this book in a lesson for younger students about being kind to others.
Kind of rushes through the story, and mama changes "ugly" to "mean" when describing the sisters, but I really like tugging on Rexerella's claws in this pop up book!
