A full year after Brafford Reid was wrongfully accused and exonerated of the murder of his ex-wife and son, it’s time for the former police detective to finally move past his grief. Beautiful, caring Emily might be the one to help him do just that, but Reid finds it’s hard to trust again.
Just as he begins to truly open his heart, restrengthen his shattered faith, and start a new life with Emily, things start to go terribly wrong. How can he move forward when the past begins repeating itself?
Wow. This was just an amazing story, much more so than I'd expected. The first half, I would describe as pleasant and enjoyable. It could almost be a story in and of itself, though a fairly simple one. But it's in the second half that things really start to move fast. I found myself on the edge of my seat, unable to put my Kindle down even though I had other things I really needed to be doing. As a teacher myself, I could relate to the teacher in the book, and totally sympathize with the struggles she faced at the beginning of her first year. But that was only a small part of the troubles the characters had to face, and my heart was literally pounding through much of the story as things got more and more tense. I cried ... and I laughed ... and I couldn't do anything else until I had finished the book.
Oh, and did I mention that I really don't read romance novels? I don't enjoy them, as a rule. But this was SOOO much more. Read it! You won't regret it.
Great book! I picked up on some subtle foreshadowing and thought I knew where we were headed. But then. SURPRISE! The author has woven a tale that is believable, yet is far from simple. The gentle connection with her Chop! Chop! Series is well appreciated by her fans. The character development is revealed at a pleasant pace. The ending is quite satisfactory, yet I can't help but wonder about the next book. I would recommend this to all of her fans, and anyone else looking for a clean, well-written drama/thriller. I loved the emotional struggles that Reid goes through and also the incredible bond of friendship that is displayed. I can't wait to recommend this to all my friends! Well done!
I received this through the Kindle Scout Program to read and review. After reading this book, my first reaction was that, true to form, things are not always what they seem. A year after being wrongly accused and exonerated of the murder of his ex-wife and young son, it is time for Brafford Reid to move on with his life. His friends agree. Thus, when Emily comes into his life, Reid begins a relationship with her. Their feelings are mutual, and they marry after only a few months, despite misgivings his friends have that it is too big a step too soon. Nevertheless, Reid and Emily are quite content to be married. However, Emily becomes stressed out by her job as a teacher of young children, wanting to do everything perfectly—which causes some heavy strain on their marriage and relationship and leads to near disaster. Both appear to be working through things until some events and actions cause everyone, including Reid, to sit back and take notice. Can things ever be the way they were during his and Emily’s courtship? Can they get back on track?
This was a pretty good book that moved along at a steady and often fast pace. Reid and Emily, the two main characters, were well developed and realistically portrayed. Of course, Reid had problems—who wouldn’t, with his history? Still, it was obvious that Emily was definitely ready to accept him for what he was and, like him, was trying to make the best of things. The story moves through some crazy twists and turns, culminating in a rather surprising ending. I will admit, I had not totally thought of this ending, though I felt something like this there with me, just not on the surface. This is a good book for a reader who enjoys surprising but definitely satisfying endings. The author can easily pick up Emily and Reid’s story in another book, which may well be the plan. However, even if this is the end of their story, it is a solid, satisfying one that any reader should enjoy.
This is a cute, easy-to-read story about relationships. At first, the story line seems to be heading in one direction--what you would consider your typical sweet romance between Reid and Emily, with a few bumps and bruises along the way. But then it shifts and things get decidedly stranger. It all makes sense in the end, with a nice twist to the story.
I liked the interaction between the two former college chums, Reid and Hale. They have a teasing type of friendship, that made me laugh at their conversations from the first chapter.
As the title indicates, it's a book about trust. But it's more than about people trusting each other. It's about trusting God. The book, however, isn't preachy. God is a part of their lives, but the book isn't about religion.
I received a free copy of this book as part of the Kindle Scout program.
I've love this author since I read Chop Chop and then breezed through the entire series. I was exceptionally impressed with her ability to write believable first person characters from the male perspective, in fact when I first started the series I thought she herself was a man until I caught an interview of her discussing Chop Chop. Unfortunately, Reid's character wasn't as believable, the first person narration gave him an air of immaturity and oblivion that an experienced detective of his age shouldn't possess. Based on reviews of others I was expecting to be caught off guard by the twist and climax, but it ended up being exactly what I expected from the first hint of conflict. Still, the author wove together an entertaining tale that captivated my attention and distracted me from everyday stress, which is exactly what I needed
Reid was accused of murdering his ex-wife and son but finally exonerated. After that and because of his relationship with his ex-wife he didn't want to get involved with anyone but his friends kept trying to set him up. When he met Emily, he trusted her and enjoyed being with her even though she was ten years younger than him. They were happily married for a while when things started to go very wrong.
This is an enjoyable romantic thriller that had a very surprising twist toward the end. I didn't see it coming! I had a hard time feeling anything for Reid although his hesitation on getting involved with anyone was understandable after learning about the mental problems his ex had. Emily was a wonderful, understanding woman - almost to wonderful.
I spent more than half of the book thinking that it was too slow paced. It might have been because I was anxiously waiting for the moment when Reid would at least suspect what the truth was since I had done it as soon as Emily had raised the doubt in my mind with that early question and the respective answer she obtained from Reid. That being said I enjoyed the mind game the author used to get to the expected conclusion even if Reid's inability to see it got on my nerves. As a detective he truly was a crap... but the book, once we have the patience to overcome that slow first half becomes enjoyable to read. in fact that's the only reason why I don't give it one more star.
5 star plus rating for another remarkable novel by this author! I was immediately drawn into the main character, Reid's's life, his emotions, thoughts and actions. The story builds on a tragedy that occurred in Reid's life -- the loss of his young son Noah. The plots covers many areas: grief, mental illness, lost love, newfound love, enduring friendship, marriage conflicts, good and evil.... But the bottom line who can Reid trust? Love the twists and turns of this riveting story!
2.5 stars. I almost gave up on this book at about 10% but I decided to keep going since it had such good reviews. The very beginning of the book was interesting...it was an odd combination of too much going on but being too slow. The age difference did bother me--the author claims she is mature but there is still a huge difference between 19 and 29. I also didn't like the rushed relationship.
Fast forward to the middle/end of the book, I guessed what was going on as soon as it started. I was hoping to find it "thrilling" but it just seemed like a far-fetched yet predictable plot twist.
I received a copy of this book through Kindle Scout nomination.
I do not think I have ever read a book quite like this one. First of all, (please excuse my choice of words, but I believe they are necessary because the author deserves so much more credit for making this book amazing) how crazy in hell would is any woman who would make her husband believe his child was dead? A heartless piece of shit, that's how crazy!
Second, never think God is not listening. Don't let your mind get in the way of you calling for His help.

Excellent must read!!! I received a free e-copy of the book through my nomination in the Kindle Scout program when it was selected for publication. Wow, the book was so good. There was romance, suspense and plenty of surprising twists and turns. I couldn't put the book down as I had to find out what would happen next and it didn't disappoint. Still shocked over the events that happened and what was revealed.
I received this book as an advance through the kindle scout program. I was not disappointed. The characters are well developed, and the story line kept me wanting more. It was hard to put down, and I enjoyed the plot twists and turns. I will definitely be continuing this series!
It reminded me of the chop-chop series in the fact that it interfered with my sleep. Also because the characters were like real people. I look forward to getting to know them as well as I know David and his crew. Love the connection to the Cavendish people as well.
Excellent, well developed characters and plot I was pulled in and found it hard to put down, I loved the balance of humor and suspense. I thought I had it figured out but there were a couple of possibilities so I liked that it was not completely predictable. Great book, I will read more by this author!
This is my 1st time reading LN Cronk books. I enjoyed her style. I love a great mystery. Lots of twists & turns. Loved it!! This must not be LN Cronk's normal writing style (genre) apparently, from the reviews. I really enjoyed it, I will check Kindle Unlimited to see, I will be reading more from here very very soon. Apparently I need to check out the Chop Chop series. ( ;
This is one of the best books I have read in a very long time!
Reid's son and ex-wife were murdered, and he was fun a lot exonerated. He begins to build his life again with his new wife Emily, when things start to go wrong....
It was sweet in the beginning, just a little slow. But, I enjoyed the intrigue even though it was pretty obvious who the culprit was. Nice written and I will be reading more of her work.
I really like this author and the way she connects with me, the reader. I have read her Chop Chop books more than once and until a new book comes out, I am pretty sure I will read them again!
This book was so good. It captured me from the beginning. I really enjoyed it and especially loved the ending. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I thought this was a nice clean story. This is the first one that I've read from this author and was pleasantly surprised. There were a couple of times I wanted to smack Reid for his behavior. I understand he went through a lot, but he really loved wallowing in pity.
Emily was just a cute as she could be. With the title, I thought that it was Reid who had major trust issues but both characters went through tough situations that caused trust issues. One of the things that was frustrating was that Reid was supposed to have been a detective but Emily was the one to solve the problems there were facing. Another smack for Reid!! Overall, it was a great story, even though it seemed to end abruptly.
Reid has faced devastating betrayal and loss, but he is finally ready to live again. But his new life quickly goes sideways. Now what?
How do you know you really know someone? Is love enough to sustain a relationship through brutally hard times? This book takes a good look at these questions and more. Reid is a sympathetic character with flaws and bad judgment.
This is Christian romantic suspense so expect a clean read that includes prayer and discussions of faith.
Family friendly but some of the subject matter is too mature for younger readers.
Another Excellent Piece of Christian Fiction This is an excellent Christian novel that I’ve come to expect from this author. The plot is exceptional; the characters are well developed and totally believable. The hero of the story is recovering from unbelievable heartache. His journey becomes so tough that he finally leans on his faith. I can’t wait to read the next in the series, although this stands alone quite well.
This book was great. I had a hard time putting it down. I will say the character Reid is shown to be dumb as a stump!!!!!! It was a little unrealistic ,to think, his background as a police office would not have kicked in and that the wife,Emily, is actually the heroin character of this book. The plot was good and not your run of the mill mystery for sure.
This is a 4 and a half star review. I love the twists and turns. It flowed well and wasn't confusing. It had a lot of issues in it and one really crazy woman.Cruel....now I want to know more. Waiting for book 2.
I couldn’t put the book down! Great suspenseful story!
I love how the story had twists and turns. It was a love story and suspenseful thriller in one. I love how there was romance but it was tasteful. God and marriage were a big part of it.
