This was pretty demm entertaining, LOL. I particularly loved the frank dialogue. Maybe it's because I don't read much women's lit, but somehow, I don't think I'd find as much unflinching discussion of sex elsewhere.
I do not say this easily since I heartily disapproved of one of the main characters and some of the views put forward, but I loved Scenes. It read like a soap opera. Forget predictable, I couldn't even predict the next line, LOL. It didn't require circus acts either. This book's pretty realistic, barring one or two moments. I love Rich Landey. I was rooting for him and Misty. I'm glad about the ending. Hopefully, Reesy will get a clue in the next book.
I cannot find enough words to articulate how fabulous Scenes From A Sistah was. This book is about two best friends, their lives and relationships they find themselves in. I laughed hysterically as I read it. One night I was up until 3 a.m. reading it (when I had to get up at 6 a.m. for work) because I simply had to know what was going to happen next. I obsessed over this book so much that I would take it into the bathroom with me at work so I could continue reading it.
I HIGHLY recommend this book to any woman who needs a good laugh. I honestly believe that somewhere throughout the book you will see yourself in one or both of the characters. This makes for great girlfriend reading.
I'm sorry Ms. Files for the 1 Star. I just felt like nothing really happened in the book. I mean there were 4 pages on wax strips and why she needed them....the main character was underdeveloped in my opinion. I feel I knew more about her best friend. I didn't see any growth in either character. Maybe it's me...when I read the title Scenes from a Sistah, I expected some real dramatic story lines of the Sistah and her life but instead I got ...I don't know what I got. Maybe I will try another one of your books!? Mayyyyybe
I loved the story. It was definitely a page turner. However, the ending is a cliff-hanger. I have questions. For example, what happens to Reesy? Does Misty ever find happiness? Does she ever get married? I need to KNOW!! (A bit exaggerated) Otherwise, this is a must read.
DNF. I feel like the major events of the book were too far apart. In between them there was too much mundane detail that I kept skipping through. The good thing is that when the events happened they were interesting but the in between was too boring for me.
I fell in love with this book after two pages...it was so easy to read and I could NOT put it down. I've lost count of how many times I've read it...Misty really made me want to reach into the story and shake her, though! And I still to this day wish I had a friend like Reesy!
I loved this book from the first few pages. I absolutely love the way the author writes, quite similar to how I would probably write if I had the talent. This is a mirror relationsip that I have with one of my girlfriends. I am Reesy. Love the book.
A story about 2 black, successful women in the 90s, trying to navigate through dating, career and just plain old life! It was an interesting and easy read! It definitely had its share of drama...lots of drama! But I guess that's what makes for a real storyline and an entertaining book. 4 stars!
