From description on back cover:
The Second Edition • Shorter of The Norton Anthology of Short Fiction is a distillation, from the new edition of the parent anthology, of those stories that are most teachable in the shorter course of fiction; it is a thoroughgoing revision of one of the most popular collections ever compiled for the classroom. In making his revisions, R. V. Casill –- himself a distinguished writer and teacher of fiction –- has taken advantage of the experiences of many teachers and students in classrooms other than his own, and he has also relied upon his sensitivity both to what readers want and to the variety and richness of the genre. This edition is, like the first, both a practical text and a voyage of discovery.
Eighteen stories are new to the Second Edition • Shorter, so that teacher and student now have 56 stories from which to choose. The new stories range from deserved classics [...] to contemporary work by many highly regarded recent authors.
Re-reading Amy Tan's Rules of the Game. Loved this short, the first time I read it, now I don't remember why it affected me so much. Maybe it was just pertinent for the time.
