I really loved this. What a fascinating and insightful book! Granted it is nearly fifty years old, but it still has so much to learn from, and it's a field I had never heard of before so I'm sure there's a lot of room for more growth and research. I'm really interested in the environment and in ancient history, so when I saw this book I knew it would be right up my alley. Glad to say it did not disappoint! I like that it serves as more of an introduction into the field of ancient ecology and provides some insight into various areas/periods/groups of the ancient world, so you get a taster for lots of things. I learned quite a lot from it, but more importantly, it has vastly changed and challenged my perception of the ancient world. I think we have a very romanticised view of it nowadays. This was very eye-opening, in that respect. It's definitely inspired me to continue looking into this subject more. Who knows, perhaps one day I'll even write my thesis about it!

I was going to point out that it should have been named 'Ecology in the Ancient Mediterranean' but it seems the author has written a more up to date version of this book (I am assuming anyway, not having read it).
