Broken Wings

He disappeared for ten years, leaving me scarred, broken, and alone. Now he wants me back?
Ten years ago, I had the perfect life. A happy family, a loving boyfriend, a bright future.

Then the accident took everything away. I woke up broken and scarred, my family destroyed. My boyfriend, Jack, gone.

He vanished from my world and left me alone with just memories. Jack's tight body in my bed, on the kitchen floor, in the park...his hands on my skin, the fire in his eyes as he made me his.

Now he's back and he wants me to run away with him.

I want him so bad I can taste it. I want his kisses to burn my throat. I want a family with Jack and a child of my own. I want to be whole again.

My heart says yes, but my head wants to know why the world's most eligible bachelor would want the scarred broken girl when he can have anybody he wants. How can I trust the man who disappeared when I needed him most?

---

I'm taking her back.
Perfect girl, perfect future. Once, I had everything.

Ellie, my passion. I remember her skin under my hands, her lips pressed against mine, the scent of her hair and the feel of her writhing body. Looks like an angel, but a demon in bed.

Then one cruel night stole it all away. They took me, shipped me overseas. Somebody already planned my perfect life, and my scarred girlfriend wasn't part of it. I know the truth: The accident was no accident. Someone tried to kill her.

To hell with their plans. I'll make her mine again, and nothing's stopping me. I'll remind her how beautiful she is and we'll be the family we were meant to be.

They tried to kill me to keep her from me once. I'd rather die than lose her a second time...

I could not get through this and I was excited to start it. It felt repetitive. There was a point to everything and I am assuming a twist or revelation but I felt as if I would have to wait until the very end to get to it. In the mean time, there was just a lot of back and forth.

The heroine lost her eye and the side of her face is scarred. After the accident, the hero left and they have not talked in 10 years. I loev seond chance romances like these, but was so disappointed.

The heroine's step-mother is marrying the hero's father when the hero and the heroine first reunite.

The heroine calls her step-mother "mom" - it felt weird since there is not a large age difference between them. In the hero's POV, he points out how attractive the step-mom is. I don't think he wanted to sleep with the step-mother but I am not sure why it had to be mentioned more than once. I got it, the step-mother was pretty to look at and that is it, but I son't want to hear hot her legs are beautiful and she is attractive.

You may love it. The dual POVs and the writing style did not work for me. I am not telling you not to read it. It just did not work for me.

What do we have here?

1. A heroine who isn't a missing Victoria's Secret runway model. She's a woman with some REAL issues (not falling prey to a meltdown because she can't find a swanky dress to wear to the next dinner party that Mr 'Ooo he's so hot my panties just disappeared into thin air' is going to attend). But, someone we actually have a chance to get to know as a person, and actual character with depth, because every thought the hero has about her isn't layered with how ridiculously awesome her T&A are. In the words of a lovely blue Avatar, he *sees* her. Mmmm...how delish!

2. A hero that I would definitely consider a bad boy, but manages to somehow escape the shallow a-hole stigma. In other words, a hero that I can appreciate for much more than his tatts and muscle. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love me some tatt and muscle, but I'mma need more - and he gave me more. Ooo you gave me much more, Jack!

3. A story!!! That sounds ridiculous considering I'm writing a review about a novel. But, there have been many a book that I've read that had characters thrown together with dialogue, but no actual story. You close the book thinking wtf did I just read?? This one has an actual STORY that plays out! Throw in a little romance, some mystery, some drama, some comedy - you pretty much get a little of everything with this one. It delivered.

But, the biggest plus for me was that the plot was so unique for this genre! And, you know, this is the first time I've come across a bad boy that wasn't a manwhore (but he was still bad*ss)! YES!!! *high five* Abigail!!

I really wanted to like this book. When I read the summary and all the promising reviews, I knew I had to read this book. This is the kind of story I really enjoy reading. But 20% in, I had to give up. The story didn't work for me. There was something missing. I didn't like the character of Jack. His narrating was to "female" for me. And his thinking and acting didn't go with his age of 26 and his experience in the Army. His whole life was dictated from his father, who has the reign in his hands. I could understand it, when Jack was 16, that he couldn't oppose to him. But now he's 26 and he still fears him. I would have loved a more mature and independent H. But all this is just my opinion, and I don't want other readers to be put off by this review. You just have to read it yourself, and who knows, maybe it will be the best thing you read.

Received through Instafreebie:

This book has so many mixed reviews that it left me wondering if it was worth the time to read. I am glad I did. Is there parts that were repetitive? Yes. But the overall second chance love is worth the time to get past the duplicate parts. Jack and Ellie's relationship has had some major stopping blocks but despite it all they have stayed true to his/her love. Realistic??? Nope but still enjoyable for an easy read. Plus the twist at the end was shocking. Will love to read more by this author.

I wanted to like this book , I love the story behind it and Jack and Ellie but the book itself? No.

Where does my dislike start? Well the cover actually, I know, I know, don't judge a book by its cover but in all fairness its the book itself that makes me hate it. The guy is nothing like Jack is described, muscular with gorgeous blue eyes and not a single tattoo is mentioned, where the cover has a wanna be dark and brooding MMA fighter. Then there is the Ellie on the cover whose scars are harmless and simple, barely marring her beautiful skin, her hair as dark as night; the Ellie in the book is irreparably scarred and has an eyepatch, not a sexy look, with beautiful auburn hair and striking blue eyes. How hard is it to make the cover actually match the book?

I can't believe for a moment this book was edited which makes for staying on track impossible. Not only simple grammar mistakes like changing a He into a She and forgetting words but huge things in the storyline. At one point Jack says he drove his car the night of the accident "...we're getting in the car. My first car my dad bought for me, the BMW coupe." then at the end its actually Ellie's dads car that they drove that night changing the whole story line. All throughout the book Jack talks about how his third stepmom was horrible and him and Frank talk about how she was worst of the bunch but at the end Richard says that Jessica is only is third wife. On and on the mistakes in the story line go, but even these I could possibly look past if the book was strong enough but it wasn't, and I shouldn't have to.

Jack and Ellie are both very likable characters, though some things Jack says in not executed in a masculine manner but their story felt like a porn. From the very beginning its like they only want sex. I know that this is an erotica but its hard to fall for their love story when its two to three pages of story for 5 of sex. Not sweet romantic sex scenes either raw raunchy sex scenes like " I dip quickly and lick where his shaft meets his balls..." seriously not a fan.

There are glimpses of the a great story that I could love. The way Jack and Ellie love each other is beautiful their ending great but their just wasn't enough substance to hold the book together. I wish there was more simply because the bones of the story are amazing but everything else is empty.

4 Stars!

This is a beautiful story of love and loss and proves that love is more than just skin deep.

When Jack Marshall crashes his father's wedding he only has one intention, to find his high school sweetheart Ellie Roberts. When he gets a chilly reception from her, he decides he needs to win her back.
Ellie Roberts is a broken, damaged woman. After almost dying in the car accident that killed her father and in which Jack was driving, she is horribly scarred both inside and out. She was devastated when Jack all but disappeared immediately after the accident, and now that he's back, she's fighting her warring emotions.
Jack is also at war with his thoughts. He feels responsible for Ellie's suffering and the death of her father, leaving her with no one. He also has suspicions that his father was behind the accident as a way to get rid of Ellie. In an act of desperation, Jack "kidnaps" Ellie so they can talk about all that's happened in the 10 years since the accident.

This book was very emotional and a sweet love story for sure. The fact that Jack saw nothing but beauty in Ellie even though her face and body was horribly scarred shows what a great man he is. I have one complaint in that Ellie lost an eye in the fire and where's a glass one, which in itself is fine! I loved that her injuries were very realistic! My problem is that when the author spoke about her looking at someone she would just say "her eye was on him". After a while I was just annoyed with it. I don't think I would have questioned the author's authenticity had she said "my eyes rolled back" while speaking about Ellie.

But with that being my only complaint, I really liked the book and I think a lot of people will!

This is a most exceptional and intriguing story that had me enthralled from the very beginning. It was such an emotional and awe inspiring read. Ellie and Jack were childhood sweethearts until the fateful night they are involved in a one-car accident. 10-years on, Jack has resigned from the Army, and returns home just as his father is getting married. Jack sees Ellie and wants to make peace with the past; she is still beautiful, with an innocence and radiance about her, even with her scars. Jack’s father says he will make Jack a success whether he wants it or not, but he has to stay away from Ellie. Jack agrees to play his father’s game initially, but he is not going to give up on Ellie – he is nothing like his father. Jack and Ellie embark on a journey of rediscovery – they also meet up with Ellie’s uncle and Jack’s mother, where they hear some interesting information about Jessica, Ellie’s stepmother. Jessica and her father had been arguing about Ellie’s career on the night of the accident – could it be that Jack’s father wasn’t responsible for the accident after all – and was all this heartache just about money, or was it something more personal? Ellie and Jack’s lives were never going to be easy; they have been hurt physically and spiritually, but there is no doubt that together they will overcome their adversity. Once again, Abigail has provided her readers with another excellent story. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received this for an honest review. Abigail Graham done such an amazing job.

Jack was one that was controlled by his father. His father had hopes and dreams for his son. He was trying to live his life through his son’s and was not going to let anything stand in the way. It was sad in a way. I had to wonder if his father truly loved him or just loved what his son could give him. Jack had lived with the pain of the only girl he had ever loved being taken away from him. He felt guilty for an accident that was not his fault. He had felt he had killed Ellie’s father and scared her for life. Jack felt like if he could go back there most of been something he could of done or change. He wishes a thousand times he could of taken Ellie and her dad’s place. Jack had felt that his father was to blame for the accident but needed proof.

Ellie had lost her real mother at a young age, had a boyfriend that never showed when she needed him the most, and had lost her father in a terrible accident. She truly loved Jack after all this time. Ellie had scars outwardly and emotionally. She saw herself as an ugly monster. She was always worried what people thought.

This story is about how not matter what true love can prevail. It is about inward beauty and inward healing. I loved this story and found it very touching.

Very emotional, young lover forced away from another. A car wreck destroys a young girl life and kills her father and throws her boyfriend out the window. Jack was forced to give up is love Ellie that same day her father is dead and her body destroyed. His father forced in to London in a boarding school then college and in the Army. Jack could not nor could Ellis contact each other of fear. 10 years later Jack sneaks back and wants the one woman he ever love no matter what his rich father said. He sees the burns, scares, the burnt hand and glass eye but he still see the girl he fell for at 16. Ellis is has been miserable and for years and won't let no one see her but her stepmother and some other woman that her stepmother is close to. But don't let Jessica's care fool yous underneath to calm and lo ing face is a cold hearted reptile that will kill anyone to get the money that she wants no matter what stands in her way but it up to Jack and Ellis to get the truth out and save each other from Jessica's planed fate for the lives she help ruin.

Oh man, I thought Bad Boy Next Door would always be my favorite book by Abigail Graham, but I was wrong. So very wrong. Broken Wings has taken that title of best book ever by Abigail Graham and that's including future books. That's how great this book was. I seriously couldn't put it down, I was at work reading on my phone, I couldn't put it down. Jack and Ellie's story will break your heart, because what they went through, no one should. But together, they're stronger than any force that works to keep them apart. Their love is beautiful and proves that when you truly love someone, it's what on the inside that matters. The whole book Graham has you thinking you know what's going on and who's the bad guy, but she throws a crazy curveball I never saw coming, even though after reading this story it should've been obvious. I'm sorry to say, but I don't think there's any topping this one for Graham. If you're a fan, don't miss out on this. If you haven't read any of Graham's books, start here. You won't regret it.

How do you move forward with you life after losing everything that matters to you? Ellie & Jack were very much in love, they might have been young but they were happy. But one night everything changes they are in a serious car accident, Ellis is badly burnt and her father is dead and Jack gets sent away.
Ellie has lived in the shadow since then, she is horribly scarred and alone that is until Jack comes back. Can she ever forgive him for leaving her and never coming back until now?
Jack has never stopped loving her and he will do everything and anything to prove it to her.
He kidnaps her and they go on a journey and they learn so many things that they never knew about each other.
Can they have a future together after all that had happened and will Ellie believe that he doesn't see her scars but just her?
A twist to the story will be revealed later.
A lovely well written story, love can overcome anything if it is really meant to be. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via the author.

Jack is the son that most fathers would be thrilled to have, but his father is never satisfied and seems to be hell bent to make Jack bend to his will.

Ellie thinks her life is over and even years after her accident, she still believes so.

Ellie and Jack have a history that most people would never understand. When the accident occurred, Jack thought he would never forgive himself. His dad kept him out of the picture with college and the military. Now his dad is getting married and he is determined to to see Ellie and sets things right. She fights him at first but soon finds herself in her same old ways of loving Jack.

When the unthinkable happens and the reason and person responsible for the accident is revealed, they are both shocked and stunned.

This book had me by the third page. Excellent writing. The storyline will make you cry and laugh.

This book is one of the best I have ever read.

Jack Marshal has come back to his home town for the first time in ten years. His father has controlled his life long enough, it's time he stood up for what he wants.
Ellie has hardly been out in public since the car crash that killed her father and destroyed her life. But today her step mother is marrying again, and insists Ellie be part of her wedding. The woman has done everything to care for her, so Ellie feels she must please her.
This is a second chance romance, where two youngsters where torn apart, now as adults they must discover what the world holds for them. Our heroine is badly scarred and has allowed her looks to rule how she sees herself. Our hero has just discovered his strength and will do anything to claim the only woman he has ever wanted.
I found this a little slow to start, but I soon got pulled into the very emotional story line. The ending is totally unexpected.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book will take you on a wild ride. You were warned. No spoilers from me; you will just have to take this trip yourself. Powerful characters. Powerful feelings. Intrigue. Romance. And a strong connection between the hero and heroine that is so deep it survives trauma and years apart. Jack Marshall comes back to town, much to the chagrin of his father and just about anyone else who sees him. Ellie is so not happy to see Jack back either but this is their story and it will keep you on the edge of your seat – getting them to their HEA. You will love some of the characters. You will hate some of the characters. Ms. Graham did an amazing job of getting me to feel this wide range of feelings. I highly recommend this book.

This story was absolutely amazing. It was a love that was passionate, never ending, emotional, and spans over years. This is about Jack and Ellie and their path to finding happiness and love. Ellie struggles with a horrific disfiguration from a car accident in which Jack was the driver. She deals with how her life is drastically altered and hatred for the one man who she thought was the ultimate cause of it all. Jack struggles with the overwhelming guilt of the accident that hurt his Ellie and killed Ellie's father. They both figure out that nothing is what it seems and in order to get Ellie to hear him out, Jack "kidnaps" her.

I loved this story. I felt myself rooting for Jack and Ellie as together they begin to heal each other and realize love triumphs all. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

Fantastic story! One of the best I've read. Jack loved Ellie when they were 16 but after being kept away from her for 10 years, he can't wait any longer to see her and try to win her back. He's tired of being controlled. Since she is broken and scarred badly, she has a hard time accepting herself. The story brings out all kinds of emotions from one end of the scale to the other. It shows what she has to go through on a daily basis, her horrible solitary struggle, and it's heartwarming the way the story unfolds. Such a great underlying lesson here also, of where beauty actually lies. It holds the perfect amount of suspense and with all the surprises, you think you know what will happen and yet you don't really. I was so lucky to have been gifted an ARC copy of this book for my honest review. I highly recommend this read.

Given to me for an honest review. As I started reading I wondered what Ms Graham was doing. I don't like sad stories and the beginning of the second chapter made me think “do I want to finish this?” This story is worthy of several tissues, but don't worry you won't need a whole box. Jack starts the story and you wonder what was he like as a teenager. He's being very cautious driving through town but it doesn't matter. He is stopped by “one of Philly's finest”. He is reasonably polite and really careful with every move he makes so they have no reason to “rough him up” (my words). He's late for the wedding he wanted to crash. His father's bodyguard takes him to his father, the groom. Why did Jack want to attend a wedding that he had no invitation for? He is able to talk to his old girlfriend, but she is not very happy to see him.

Couldn't get past somethings

Ugh, I really don't like saying negative things about a book or author. I mean a person put forth time and major effort to write a story and have it published. I just found the character development lacking, I couldn't get in touch with any character to really care about the storyline. And it just seemed like there was no resolution to anything. I'm a reader who reads the epilogue first. Just do and always have. This story didn't really have one and if what the last chapter was, was considered an epilogue then it sucked.

I tried to give this author another chance but I can't. She is not for me. Didn't even attempt at reading the additional books that were included in the download.

I suggest passing on this story. I know I should have.

An accident. Or as it? Questions remain, bad feelings surge and lies are prominent. One life ruined, one life lost and one life in turmoil as he fights to get back what is his. And fight he will till he claims the love he lost and still wants with all his heart. Showing up out of the blue, biding his time, he waits for the opportunity then strikes. He will not let someone take her away from him twice. Its a fight for survival, truth and making sure she knows he never once forgot her.
This book has twists in the story. kept me guessing of who really wanted to hurt them the most. Great story line, awesome characters and a highly recommended read. This author is going on my must read list.

So with this book it was a little different.
I went in completely blind. I knew nothing about this book, no clue what so ever.

But i must admit i was pleasantly surprised on how it was.

The name threw me off a little, me thinking it was a PNR but it's nothing like that.

Ellie got a crap hand in cards and has her accident, "Mother" i didn't really like.. honest intentions and all that.

Jack's dad i wanted to throat punch into next week.

Jack. I liked him. Misunderstood, bossed around most of his life. Good character.

Overall considering i didn't know anything about it i really enjoyed it :)

Broken Wings (A Romantic Suspense) by Abigail Graham (Author)
** I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review**
I have read many books by Abigail Graham but I must say Broken Wings out shines them all!! This was one of the best books I have read in a LONG time. This story is full of suspense, passion, manipulation, heartbreaking treachery, fierce dedication and tender love. I don't think I have ever come across a book hero I admired as much as Jack. It was impossible not to love and admire Ellie. I strongly recommend this story to anyone who like a great love story.

This book was amazing. The pure love they have for each other. The brokenness she feels and she hides away from the world. The Hate he hold for his dad for keeping him away for years. He's back to get his girl. She's so mad at him for leaving her 10 years ago after the accident that took everything she loved away from her. He wont give up easily. Can she believe he loves her still with all her scars?
Hands down the best book I have read from Abigail Graham. The suspense, the love, road trip, the emotional and physical pain she feels. pulls on your heart strings. I couldn't put the book down.

Ellie and Jack were torn apart by a car wreck and his father would not let him have anything to do with the girl he loved he was only sixteen and Ellie was fourteen but what they felt for each other was real. Jack is back and it is ten years later and he will not let his father keep him from the woman he loves nor will he let Ellie even though she doesn't want anything to do with him. This is their story and it is so very exciting and keeps you on the edge waiting to see what will happen next. I would definitely recommend and give this book 5 Stars. When I have a book I do not want to put down and hate it when I have to, I know I'm loving it! That's exactly what happened with this book. I was completely drawn in to this wonderful love that was so cruelly torn from them as teenagers. Ellie is living with so many deep scars, both physically and emotionally. She's hiding from the world and it takes Jack to bring life back in to her world. There is a sweetness to them, a love that time couldn't break. I gasped, I yelled, I wiped a few tears and I loved every minute of it! This is a MUST read!

This review is from: Broken Wings (A Romantic Suspense) (Kindle Edition)

This was emotional book, you will feel Ellie's hurt. I loved Ellie and Jack they warmed my heart. A tragic accident changes Ellie's life forever and leaves her scarred, she thinks she looks like a monster and is very self conscious of her looks. Ten years later than man that left her after the accident comes back and is still in love with her, he will so whatever it takes to get her back. Ellie never stopped loving him, will she open her heart back up to him. The ending touched my heart. This is a must read , you will love it!

I want to start by saying I do get caught up in the details. This is a very good book with lots of steamy love scenes. I felt the like the getting the back story took a long time. I understand that the desire to hold back to keep people intrigued is good but I thought there was enough interesting stuff going on with what caused that accident not to hold back the information that long. Also, the person who started calling Ellie was Jack but why did everyone else in the book call her Ellie? Otherwise fantastic book with a great plot that kept you focused until the end. I love it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a steamy suspense.

I loved this book.....it had me gripped from start to finish, and I read it in one sitting.

The characters were believable and likeable (with one or two exceptions!) and the plot kept me guessing ...always a good sign. I knew skulduggery had taken place but not who the perpetrator was.

The themes behind the plot were bittersweet.
Can a second chance at love work?
Look beyond the scars.
Memory can play tricks.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying read....even though some scenes moved me to tears .

Love is more than just skin deep and that is the message in this story with a healthy dose f romance and suspense thrown into the mix as well. This book proper takes you from your mundane life and takes you straight into fiction central which is something i love when reading, i do not want normal everyday, i want something out f the realms of normalcy. I love how Jack loves Ellie through all her scars internal and external, a good escapist read, i really enjoyed this story but not as much as other Abigail Graham stories, but that does not mean you will not love it as much as her other stories

Very good

I like how he connected with the kids. He seemed more concerned that the creepy dentist was eyeing the young girl than her mother. I really liked that he stood by the family though. His trainer was a horrible man. I liked the book. I will plan to read the others in the series. The other books were all good. I really liked the one with the kids that were separated for 10 years. Saw that step mother coming. The one with the kids and the evil parents in paradise falls was good. Plan to read paradise falls. Need to see what is up with Jacob and Jennifer.

The story was enjoyable to read. I love that Jack loves Ellie no matter what and will do anything to be with her. It was a little slow to start, but as it went on, it did get better. The love Jack has for Ellie was intense, but hard to imagine after ten years of no contact, but nevertheless, it made for a great HEA. This is the second book that I have read by this author. I look forward to reading more from her.
