The mystery just keeps getting deeper and draws you in. I really enjoy these books. They are written in short parts which is great if your going on a journey or have a few spare hours. Starting part Three today and can't wait:) Lynda x
I made the mistake of starting the second installment in the Werewolves of Shade Serial late at night. I know better, I really do; I've read nearly all of O'Rourke's work, and I know that the suspense and horror he places in his books means I should never, ever, pick these up at night--I have a rather active dreamscape fraught with nightmares--but I just couldn't help myself. The first installment ends on an enticing cliffhanger, and I just HAD TO KNOW what happens next. So I started the second portion immediately, and I was not disappointed.
Mila has made it to her destination, the town of Shade, but something lurks in the darkness, and the few people she finds in the town are... less than forthcoming. I can't decide who I like more: the sweet and sexy Rush or the frustrating and sardonic Calix. For those who've read O'Rourke's Kiera Hudson series (and if you haven't, please do!), I'd almost liken Calix to a younger version of Potter, and I just love Potter... so I'm torn between the characters. But neither seem to be very truthful, and their sudden appearance, almost out of thin air, has me suspecting that they aren't all that they seem... making me wonder just who they truly are, and whether they're for or against Mila.
And, I am about to pick up the third installment right now, because once again there is a lovely cliffhanger, and I am dying to know what happens next. Especially as some events in this novel, such as a lack of blood where there should be blood, and that penetrating glare from what seems to be distant eyes--but are they?--has me on pins and needles.
Very good! Getting intense now and dieting my nails now with that ending! This town is sure full of weird, and omg what up with calix having writing all over his body?! Guess im gonna find out because I can't wait for more of this great story to unfold
Wow! This one had me on edge throughout the whole story! It was read in one sitting as I couldn’t put it down. Not only are we faced with a paranormal mystery, there is an ongoing eerie atmosphere and the book is psychologically effective as fear and confusion are brought to the fore.
Continuing on exactly from where we left off in Werewolves of Shade #1, Mila has now reached the village of Shade and is now facing the possible threat of something or someone following her, and meeting three new characters in Calix, Rea and Rush. Just who are they? Mila thought everybody in Shade had disappeared – obviously not! Will they keep Mila safe? Or are they a threat?
There are many questions surrounding them, but with Mila too afraid to ask in case it raises suspicion from them on who she is, Mila has to keep her mouth shut.
Tim O’Rourke creates an intensifying atmosphere throughout, and the reader will feel just as ‘trapped’ in Shade as Mila. She is fearful, and could leave (we think!), but her curiosity and need to find out what happened to her parents leave her not wanting to leave until she has all the answers.
However, aside from being wary of her three new ‘friends’, Mila also has a sense that she is being followed. There are times when she thinks that she can see eyes watching her in the dark, but doesn’t want to say anything until she knows the circumstances of Rea, Calix and Rush. The tension and fear factor are a definite high in this episode, with great build-ups and mood setting!
“The feeling that I was being watched was like a hot blade sliding into the back of my skull.”
And, what another great cliff-hanger?! Tim O’Rourke knows just how to keep the reader dying for their next fix – because that is what his writing is – ADDICTIVE! An absolutely brilliant read, and not too long before part 3 is released, on 1st March!!

I am really enjoying the story but just as I become immersed in Mila's world the book ends and am left wanting to know more. Mila definitely has more questions than answers yet I think a few red herrings may have been thrown in for good measure to give the story a sense of mystery and unpredictability. As in previous series just when you think you have it all figured out, there is a twist and things can change at a moment's notice. The two hunky men seem like a bit of a love triangle now that Flint is not in the picture but who knows for sure. Rush is the good guy who is friendly and cheerful where Calix is your typical bad boy who is all broody and mysterious. Rea interests me the most as she seems out of place in a town like Shade and what exactly is her role. The shelf full of crucifixes and the lack of silver bullets is definitely thought provoking
I don't usually read this type of book because I enjoy reading the whole series or story at once if possible but because of the author I have decided to persevere with this style of writing. I may just wait till more of them come out so I can read them together.
The problem with these being quick reads (or listens in this case as I had the audio version) is that it feels like I've no sooner immersed myself into Mila's story and its over. I am very keen to sink my teeth into the next instalment of Mila's tale.
Mila has headed to the deserted town of Shade to try and find out what happened to her parents and the rest of the town only to find the town isnt as deserted as she thought it was. Unsure of whether she can trust the people she meets she doesnt tell them the real reason she's here whilst she tries to find out a little more about them. In this instalment we meet a few characters who can only be described as 'shady' although one definitely stands out more than the others.... We dont really get any answers in this instalment, what we get is a few more questions.
I do hope that when the series is complete O'Rourke will combine then all into one full length novel.
OMG! It is not until book five until Mila and Calix really kiss. 18+ don't waste your time if you are looking for something hot. This is for the average 15+ year old.
Although not a lot happened in this book it built up the suspense to breaking point. There are no answers just more questions....Love it book 3 here I come.
