This is a great letter from Paul to the Philippians in which he praises them for their steadfastness in Christ. He tells them to stay joyful in all things. Paul thanks them for their generous heart in giving.
Paul exhorts the Philippians to dwell on things that are beautiful and of good report, in other words to keep a posative mind.
I recommend this book to all.

Are you feeling overwhelmed? As if you would gladly exchange this life for the glory of heaven. As if one more loss will break you. As if there are more causes for grief in this world than joy. So was Paul. But – he doesn’t wallow in those sorrows. He looks to the Lord and directs us to the same source of peace, security and joy. It is such a comforting book. I can’t really recommend it enough. For what more do we need than our Lord?

I love this book! It’s one of my very favorites in the Bible. Paul had such wisdom and grace to share with so many churches during his time, but they stand the test of time and encourage me (and many others) as well, even now. I love especially the verses about being content no matter what he’s facing. Whether rich, poor, hungry, ill, Paul found his contentment in the Lord Jesus Christ, and I strive to do so as well. May the peace of God be with everyone who reads this book searching for Christ’s love and compassion.

I’ve enjoyed reading this book many times in many versions but primarily in ESV and NLT. It’s been a devotional focus for me for the last several weeks. It’s been such an encouragement! I love chapter 4. Rejoice in everything and don’t be anxious but pray with thanksgiving allow Gods peace to guard your heart! Also think about what is pure, lovely, commendable, if it’s excellent and praise worthy, think on that.

I love that because our thoughts and beliefs are so critical to how we see God and the world around us. Anxiety and Depression is rampant but I believe God has so much more for us in Christ! Where do our thoughts go? Do we pray with thanksgiving and a sense of gratitude in all things? (Paul wrote his in prison under Nero, yet he is filled with joy and not anxiety). That’s faith and the Holy Spirit enabling him to rejoice in everything. Wow.

This book is packed with so much more!!! But I loved this part and wanted to share it

Chapter 4 remains my favourite!

4:4-7 "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

Philippians! It never ceases to challenge, inspire, and motivate me. It’s all about death of self, which is the keystone for Christian growth and our relationship with God and man.

Needless to say- you should read this!! I love Paul’s style and logic! We’re going through it in Sunday school right now- and I’m reading through it outside of that for full context.

Quite enjoyed this four chapter book, Philippians, of the New Testament. It's a letter from Paul to the Philippians, and it just feels personal and full of love, friendship, and encouragement.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

It's amazing that Paul wrote this while he was chained to a guard and under house arrest, yet he talked about having joy! He was writing not from joy that came from his outward circumstances but the joy that came from within, because true joy isn't dependent on our surroundings and situations but on our relationship with Jesus. Joy is a prominent topic in Paul's letter to the Philippians. He talks about resting in the joy of God, how there's joy in unity, how being joyful is a choice, and more.

Other topics Paul discusses include things like hardships, hope beyond suffering, God's glory, purity of mind, humility, love, obedience, service, contentment in Jesus, and living for Christ. Paul encourages Christians to live out lives that are obedient to God and uplift one another—joyfully, without a bad or apathetic attitude. He touches on his rejection of all worldly things for the sake of the gospel of Jesus and urges others to do the same. He also states that even through persecutions and danger, our lives as Christians should ever be consistent with the truth of God in Jesus, our Savior, who gave Himself up in love for others.

Amazing and encouraging, full of joy. Read it even if you hate the Bible for encouragement. Remember, Paul wrote this book while he was in a prison cell. But there he learned to be content, in whatever state he found himself. How? "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

Wiersbe's commentary on this book is rightly called "Be Joyful." This book, written by Paul while in prison [under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of course] shows that joy is not dependent on circumstances but knowing the Lord and living for Him.

This is the book that turned my heart to Christ. Always good to read it and remember who I was then and who He has made me now. Much work still to do, but He loves me where I am and He doesn’t ask me to do it alone.

I have a few verses memorized from Philippians that I love.

Philippians 4: 4-8 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Philippians 4: 13 I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.

I am currently working on reading through the Bible in a year and today I finished Philippians! This book/ letter all revolves around the center piece in Chapter 2 verses 6-11; sharing about Jesus’ story and sacrifice, and glorification. Every other part of this book goes onto support the narrative that our lives whatever they look like can reflect and for Christ. What I noticed this time was that Paul had rather stay alive and suffer to further the kingdom than die and be with Jesus because of the sake of God’s people. Altogether it’s a great book about our response to Jesus for what He has done!

Paul’s joy at the mere thought of the Philippians church is undeniable in the letter, and it’s that same joy that he wanted the recipients to possess as well. To lead the Philippians to this truth, Paul took them directly to Jesus, teaching them that a community of believers living in harmony with one another comes only through mutual humility modeled after the Savior. Paul wrote that he poured out his life as an offering for the sake of Christ, leading Paul to find great joy and contentment in Christ’s service. His letter to the Philippians showed them that by centering their lives on Christ, they, too, might live in true joy. Great book of the Bible - one of my favourites…

I will always remember this biblical book as being what I was reading the moment my wife's water broke, about 1:20 in the morning, October 22, 2019. God blessed us with a beautiful little boy we called Tobias. Not in any way about the Bible, this review, but something I couldn't help sharing, in thanks to He from whom the Bible was given

The reading of God's Word is so remarkable that there is nothing that I can say to make it any better. Please, if you are a lost soul, turn to God! He can heal you and give you the greatest peace that you will ever know!

So beautiful that it actually brought me to tears. This is the specific book of the Bible that I turn to when I'm struggling with anxiety, and somehow it always helps ease my worries and fears. I love it so much and it is one of my all-time favorites.

Always a good and worthwhile read, with many excellent, memorable verses. Words to live by, from the apostle Paul inspired by the Holy Spirit -- not anonymous.

Also I just noticed that I've apparently got 2 editions of Philippians on my list, ha. Maybe I'll combine them at some point.
