Serial Killer X: True Stories of Serial Killers Who Have Never Been Identified
According to the FBI, at any given time there are estimated to be 35 - 50 serial killers active in the United States. Although this is a frightening statistic, even more frightening is the fact that some of these killers are never identified. They are able to continue their homicidal sprees without ever being caught.
Gathered here are the true stories of some of them including their victims, their murderous methods, the investigations and theories and the current status of their cases.
In some cases, the killer has been given a nickname by the police or the press and in some cases, the crimes themselves are named. In all cases, the actual identity of the killer has not yet been found and they have never been brought to justice.
Some of the cases included here are: The Atlanta Ripper The Freeway Phantom The Santa Rosa Hitchhiker Murders The Frankford Slasher And more…
Certainly this is not a complete list and presumably, more are being added each day. Any fan of the true crime genre will find the stories here fascinating and chill producing.
This book gives brief accounts of a number of serial killers who were never caught. Most of these were new to me. Perhaps some of them still walk among us.
When killers target strangers or take advantage of opportunity by picking up a prostitute or a hitchhiker, there is no basis on which to build an investigation. When a killer is always on the move, investigators don't have a starting point. Serial killers are generally apprehended based on a traffic stop or when they make a mistake that reveals their identity.
Today we benefit from amazing advances in forensics which make life increasingly risky for those who rape and murder. Even so, there are still active serial killers looking for their next victim.
This was a good book to read for educational purposes if nothing else. Would I read it again, no. It was very dry. The author didn't make the people killed human so you really never got into the story being told. All in all a somewhat good way to spend an afternoon reading about the horrors that could land on you at any time!
Serial killers are among us . We read about them and their crimes but there are more out there. This book takes you into the world of the crimes and where they were found. Maybe one day they till will among the ones who get justice. This shows you a glimpse into what could happen if you meet up with one of these killers.
There were many grammatical errors in this book; which I always find frustrating. I think I would have given this book another star if it had been edited before it was published.
