[I was given a digital edition for free, in exchange for an honest review]

An interesting read and a captivating story about letting go of the past, moving forward by overcoming inner tensions, this novel had me captured from start to end. With a well-constructed action and an equally well-shaped character, it has no dull moments, no exaggerated episodes or inflated reactions from the character’s side.

The book is about an ex-military Dean McKenzie who poses as Jay Holt, working for a corrupt politician while carrying for his comatose brother. He is looking to revenge his brother’s condition by killing Daley, one of the most influential crooked diplomats of the country. While working on an FBI investigation, Josh McKenzie finds out too much so he is shot to the head, leaving him brain dead. Dean has one shot to get close to Daley if he succeeds to deliver Kelly O’Neil to him. The guilt he initially feels towards kidnaping her and throwing her in harm’s way will transform in something else, something that will bring life back to his body and soul.

Written from Dean’s perspective, the story is divided in twenty-six chapters plus a Twelve Months Later. Each chapter is named in accordance with the character’s emotions, decisions or important persons or places. It is very easy to read, the author made all Dean’s thoughts seem very realistic. Especially for this, I’d give one extra star to the five already in.

Speaking about him, he’s a tormented soul, not only because of his kills while serving, but as well due to his desire for retribution. He will have to make some very difficult decisions, even impossible at times, while trying to keep his guard up. Kelly has as well a difficult past and tries to move forward and protect the one she loves.

I do recommend trying the book and you’ll be caught up in a complex action, with tension moments and some funny scenes as well. You can check more about the book and characters on my blog www.lillysbookworld.wordpress.com

I received an ARC of the book by the author in exchange for a Read and review.

"My entire being is losing a grip on the duty I owe to my family. I need to get her away from me. Perhaps then, with that distance, I can get back into the game and stop caring"

I started this book having low to no expectations. And it turned out to be a a great one with a solid beginning and a cute ending.

The story follows a former military Dean Mckenzie, trying to set his revenge plot against a corrupt politician; Daley, who was responsible for shooting his brother and ending up brain dead.
To do so, Dean was assigned to kidnap Kelly O'Neil and to bring her to Daley. Dean wanted to get as close as possible to Daley and Kelly was his only ticket to reach his goal.
As the story unfolds, Dean had an internal debate between his guilt and desire towards Kelly vs his duty to avenge his comatose brother.

The writing style was very smooth and written from Dean's point of view. The action pace was well built, and I found myself intrigued from chapter 1 to know what happens next.

Despite the solid beginning that gripped me into the story, I found certain chapters in the middle of the book a bit boring. And as i started to lose interest , the pace picked up again towards the end.
The romance aspect in the book was not quite developped and it focused more on the action part. Having said that, I wished the story focused more in depth on Kelly's background story.

All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and I recommend it to readers looking for a fast pace kind of a book.

I received an ARC in exchange for review.

This is a cute quick read that about letting go of the past. The story is told from Jay / Deans point of view, and we follow his story of revenge, trying to make right the past.

Dean is torn from what his heart is telling him to what his head is. As more blood is shed he finds himself falling for Kelly who we meet at the beginning of the book as he kidnaps here for Daley.

As Dean try's to protect Kelly he finds himself making mistakes and wondering why he's tied up in all this. Will Daley get what he deserves?

This book gripped me at the beginning, the middle was ok with a fast paced ending. I found it lacked detail in places, but all in all it's an easy read with a good ending. I would have liked to know more about Kelly and her story.

A great quick read.
