She's a starving artist and he's a billionaire playboy....
Siobhan came to New York with a purpose: She wants to become a successful artist. To pay her bills in the meantime, she's the hostess at The Stone Room, a bar for the beautiful and the billionaires. She's fine with being on her own--until tech billionaire Derick takes her breath away.
Elizabeth Hayley is actually “Elizabeth” and “Hayley,” two friends who love reading romance novels to obsessive levels. This mutual love prompted them to put their English degrees to good use by penning their own. They learned a ton about each other through the process, like how they clearly share a brain and have a persistent need to text each other constantly. They live with their husbands and kids in a Philadelphia suburb. Thankfully, their children are still too young to read.

I feel like this book doesn’t know what it wants to be – a sweet fairy tale romance or a torrid and steamy hookup. It’s like a game of red light, green light with red being the slow budding romance that builds through friendship and green is go, go, go for all things physical in the relationship. Just as you are starting to enjoy the tender romance, suddenly you are thrust into a scene filled with explicit sex. Some of the sex scenes seemed overdone and could have been written without such explicit description; I actually think I would have enjoyed it more with more tenderly written scenes.
I liked Derick’s character and he is consistent throughout the story. Siobhan, on the other hand, seems to be all over the place. She is super clumsy at the beginning, but then she is magically cured of that vexation and it doesn’t trouble her again. I also rolled my eyes when she tells her friends that she doesn’t want to take the physical side of their relationship any further, even though they’ve already gone pretty far, because it just seems too fast. I guess she and I have very different definitions of too far, too fast cause she raced right past my standards!
Siobhan also seems focused on all the wrong things in this “relationship”. She is the one who is concerned with Derick’s money, always faulting him for doing nice, and admittedly pricey, things for her instead of talking to him more about what she wants. Also, while Derick seems interested in really getting to know her, Siobhan is mainly into the physical aspects of the relationship. Derick is definitely attracted to her but he is trying to go out and experience the city with her while Siobhan continually lusts after his body. When things get a little tough in the relationship, it is Derick trying to talk to her and work through their differences but Siobhan is reluctant and always walks away. It is her physical attraction to him that keeps her coming back for more. I found her character to be very self-centered, unforgiving, and a touch unrealistic.
I’m sort of fed up with Siobhan at this point but I’ll probably read the next book to see what happens. I'm interested enough to continue on in the series and see how it all plays out. It’s a bit like a soap opera, you’re hooked into the story before you’ve even realized it has happened! Hopefully Derick will come to his senses and walk away from her!
Dazzling is part one of the Diamond Trilogy written by writing duo: Elizabeth Hayley. This adult contemporary romance is written under James Patterson's BOOKSHOTS imprint (fast reads for fast times). I found this "part of a story" to be short, sexy, and predictable. The authors incorporated an art element which I enjoyed, and I liked the down-to-earth and modest demeanor of the billionaire hero. Unfortunately, Dazzling offers no closure as this "part" ends during a climactic scene. At 144 pages/3 hours via audio, this is a quick and easy read, as the BOOKSHOTS selections are intended to be. Overall, I liked it and plan to read the rest of the story if the "parts" come to my library.
My favorite quote: "My mom used to say we were all just diamonds in the rough. We may not be shiny and beautiful in the moment but with a little polishing we could be the most dazzling things in the room. Not to mention the toughest."
This was a very cliche quick read romance. That did not remove any stars because I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. It’s a story about a struggling artist who happens to fall into the arms (literally) of a tech consulting billionaire. It’s just like a hallmark movie. He has a ton of money—she’s insecure about it. She has an art show and someone buys all of her paintings and then…..cliffhanger cue book #2 which I will be reading right now. Even though I know how it ends it’s still exciting to know I have two more books to read about Siobhan and Derick or Roderick?! Which was something really silly to be upset about IMO.
I'm feeling rather pissy right now over Dazzling. This was my first time reading this writing duo and likely my last. I'm so disappointed, yall!
The premise started out well enough-- rich hero falls for poor--and reluctant-- heroine and sets out to win her over. The hero was cute, sweet, earnest.
The problem(s)? The heroine. She's overly sensitive and reactive about things--especially his having money. Constantly pushing him away then being upset over it. She's a struggling artist and honestly she was depressing as hell.
I really liked him and how hard he tried to win her over. Fun tours of the city she'd never taken the time to explore, going to her art class, etc. They could have been cute other than her. Their relationship was very one sided as well, I felt. Ex-- he told her he loved her, she never replied (ever). They also just randomly were like lets not use condoms or discuss birth control before losing it. Yeah.
I could MAYBE have given this a 3 star until... the cliffhanger. The tag line for the Bookshots line is "Novels you can devour in a few hours" Well....that's technically correct. I did devour this "book" in a couple hours. But I could read ANY book and just stop mid way through the storyline and be like well I devoured that in a few hours. *rolls eyes* This is NOT a complete story. For a book of less than 150 pages and a 4.99 price tag that is just unacceptable especially since nothing in blurb indicates it's a serial story. None of the others from Bookshots that I've read have been either. Anywho. It pissed me right off. Yeah, he didn't think through something he did but he did it out of caring and love for her and then the ending...nope! Big fat I freaking hate cliffhangers nope!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Okay... I didn't enjoy this as much as I wanted to. I was hoping that for a quick read, I would fall in love with these characters and their story but I just didn't.
I loved the concept of a rich man and a struggling artist, and I was all for it, because we all need that hype in our lives! However I felt like Siobhan was just all wrong.
I LOVED Derick. He was just a man who had fallen for this woman and was doing everything in his power to show that love, whereas Siobhan just kept repeating herself it seemed. She hated the fact that he had the money to do these things... girl...HE'S A BILLIONAIRE!
Overall this was not a great book for me. I loved the concept, but the characters (Mostly Siobhan) had too many issues for this to become a relationship. Hopefully book two is better!
2.5 stars. Didn't connect with the characters and I was ... bored. I've got the other two books so I'll read them but only because it pains me to get rid of a book without trying it. You never know, it might get better!
Elizabeth Hayley never fails to deliver a story that is well written, wholly consuming, and packing the perfect blend of heat, banter, and dynamic characters that are truly unforgettable. It is no secret that I am a huge fan of their books, and getting a new story, a new world, and a new set of characters from them is something I really look forward to. There isn't a book from them that I haven't loved with all that I have, and Dazzling, the first book in their new Diamond Trilogy was no different.
This book was fulfilling. It was mesmerizing. It was vibrant, completely enjoyable, and I could not put it down. From the very first page of this story I was hooked into everything that I was getting with Siobhan and Derick's characters, and the more I got with them, the more I needed to know what their story would bring. Told with Elizabeth Hayley's distinctive and captivating writing, Dazzling tells the story of what happens when an aspiring artist meets and starts to fall in love with a billionaire.
From the moment that Siobhan and Derick meet in this story there is an instant connection between them. A connection they can't deny or fight, and soon these two find themselves feeling a whole helluva lot for one another, all while trying to figure out if they can overcome the differences between them that threaten to tear them apart. Dazzling is their story of instant attraction, and what it means for those two to fall hard and fast for one another. Through every turn of the page in this book you will be pulled in more to everything they share, and what you get with them within those pages will have you beyond enamored with all that those two share. With a heat, a connection, and a spark that never quits, Siobhan and Derick's story in Dazzling is one that bursts with a chemistry and a vibrancy that can't be beat.
I have to say one of my favorite aspects of this story was getting so much with these characters in this story. This is definitely a quick read, but don't for one second think that that means you won't get so much with these characters. Elizabeth Hayley perfectly balances creating a story that's pacing is out of this world phenomenal, while also giving you so much of these characters to love, understand, and invest in. I loved getting to know and fall for Siobhan, Derick, and the possibilities of what could be between them, and I for one can't wait to get the next part of their story!! This first part in Dazzling was the most amazing beginning for them, and it has me practically dying for more because I already can't get enough of their characters and what they share together.
In Dazzling Elizabeth Hayley gives you Siobhan and Derick. They let you get to know them, they let you feel that spark and that pull between them in your bones, and they show you what could be between these two if they're able to work out everything that's happening between them. Along the way in this story you also get so much of each of their backgrounds, and that is just one more thing that makes it so easy to invest yourself and fall in love with these two, and everything they're sharing. All of that coupled with Elizabeth Hayley's phenomenal story telling and writing that has you feeling it all, and you have one helluva story that packs the best kind of punch.
When you read this story you will feel every bit of what these characters do, and I am telling you, you will love getting to be there through it all. Through every turn of that page you'll be consumed by it all even more, and by the end you'll be needing that next part like you need your next breath. I truly can't wait to see what the next chapter of Siobhan and Derick's story brings. I have no doubt that whatever their next chapter brings the two of them it'll be exciting, it'll be captivating, and it'll be full of the most dazzling sparks.
Elizabeth Hayley blew me away once again with Dazzling, and the enticing, vibrant, and alluring world and characters they created within its pages. This is a quickly paced, fulfilling, and all-around outstanding read that will leave you loving everything you're reading and simultaneously chomping at the bit for more, and it truly doesn't get better than that!
Siobhan and Derick are complete opposites. And I kind of had completely opposite reactions to them. Derick had me swooning hard for him in the beginning...and he had me laughing on top of that, what more could a girl want??? But there were a couple of "What the heck were you thinking Derick?!?" moments, when it came to some of the things he said to Siobhan. He was a bit of a clueless male at times, but it kind of made him all the more endearing. I understood where Siobhan was coming from, especially there at the end, but I wish she had been a little more open to him in the beginning. She was kind of a tough cookie. Glad I have the next 2 books waiting for me, anxious to see how these 2 work through everything!
loved it! the author had me hanging on to every word. i adored the characters and it was so well written. i just couldn't put it down. I'm so glad i ordered the whole trilogy from the library. i finished this book literally 2 minutes ago and i already have book 2 right next to me. can't wait to read it....which I'm about to do right now!
I like James Patterson's idea of the BookShot's books but these BookShot's Flames books are not for me. I'm not a big romance reader and these books are just too simple for me. I'm sure they are good books for someone who enjoys them more than I do.
No estuvo tan mal. De hecho esperaba un 50 Sombras de Grey pero la protagonista no es tan tonta como Anastasia jaja. En serio, lo leí en una tarde y me sacó del bloqueo. Creo.
Well, in all honesty, I was expecting a bit more from this book.
For one, the cover was really beautiful.
For two, the premise seemed interesting.
But my hopes got squashed like a bug.
This book, honestly, wasn't thaaaaat spectacular. It felt like yet another one of those cliched romances with the rich guy-poor girl trope.
Plus, to me, the whole love aspect of it wasn't that great.
Sure, the hero seems like a really sweet guy (and I didn't get the bit about calling him the "playboy" - he most certainly didn't seem like a playboy) but Siobahn was very irritable at times.
I could only connect with her when she was feeling low about her art. Otherwise, I thought she was either perpetually whiny or perpetually horny (and occasionally sweet)
Overall, I'd like to rate it a 2.5 out of 3 stars because I found some of the bits to be really good and the writing was pretty awesome too
So for my ramblings about this book; I think this was a cute and quick read but oh so predictable. Also when the underwear scene was happening, let's just say I wasn't hot and bothered more like say what? I didn't realize this was more erotic so I'm sitting there thinking oh how cute these characters and damn how did it go to humping the bo-bo so quick. This book left a cliff hanger so going to have to check out part two. I liked the story overall. I liked how the main character was different and stood firm with who she was. Got to love a strong and sexy lady. As an end to my ramblings and random out burst; I recommend this book if your looking for something sexified and feeling a little adventurous!
Elizabeth Hayley is a newer author for me, but I am already a huge fan. The chemistry between D and S practically drags you into the story and I fell hard for D. He is everything a book boyfriend should be. I enjoyed getting brought through this first part of D and S's meet cute, their budding relationships, and the struggles that come with it and am aching for the next installment! Can't wait to find out what happens next.
There were definitely some hot moments in this one. But to leave me hanging... I'm glad I have book 2 sitting here, ready to go. What is Derick going to do to get Siobhan to come to her senses? I must find out!
Grabbed this after realizing that i haven't been able to finish reading a Book after nine days. So far this is a shortest thing i have read in 2017. I didn't enjoy it that much since i am not a fan of short stories.
I'm not really a romance fan so maybe my opinion is a little biased but I feel like it was very cookie-cutter. Hot girl falls madly in love with a nice, hot, rich man and gets mad when he wants to buy her things. I thought it was kind of boring. I have no intention of reading the next book even though this one ended on a cliffhanger.
Where to begin. Siobhan is far too petty for my liking, though Derick was okay. The book seems to be borderline with Fifty shades in some places, though maybe not quite as intense (never actually read the books, just seen bits and pieces of the films) all in all, I just hope the next book is better.
Dazzling is part one of the Diamond Trilogy written by writing duo: Elizabeth Hayley. I really liked this book. It was a little different from the other book I have read by thess authors but I still saw a lot of the humor and realness in the characters that I love. This book was short but that is the whole intention of Bookshots, which is a really quick read. I loved Siobhan and Derick. I liked that they were really upfront with each other (about most things) and the book really didn't have the unnecessary drama authors like to use in shorter books. I cant wait to read the next one.
Siobhan is an artist who takes a hostess job at an upscale bar. Derick is a billionaire (aren't they all?) who patronizes the bar. Siobhan literally falls down (seriously- she HAS to be clumsy) in front of him. But wait! He catches her and is instantly interested. This was predictable and boring. Luckily, this was short, so I didn't waste a lot of time on it or money (Thanks to the library!). It's also part of a trilogy- cliffhanger ahead! No HFN (much less a HEA). And guess what? I really don't care and won't be reading further.
I have read a few bookshots and this one is the first to disappoint. Firstly, there was little else to the story than poor girl falling in love with rich guy and poor girl having an issue with rich guy's money. While it was fast paced, there was not much substance to the story. Secondly, it did not leave much to the imagination; this could be my fault for not realizing it beforehand. Lastly, the ending ... I feel like I just ended in the middle of the story ... But oh, there are two more in the series - but then I would have rather read a full length book than three novellas.
