L.A. Witt and her husband have been exiled from Spain and sent to live in Maine because rhymes are fun. She now divides her time between writing, assuring people she is aware that Maine is cold, wondering where to put her next tattoo, and trying to reason with a surly Maine coon. Rumor has it her arch nemesis, Lauren Gallagher, is also somewhere in the wilds of New England, which is why L.A. is also spending a portion of her time training a team of spec ops lobsters.

Authors Ann Gallagher and Lori A. Witt have been asked to assist in lobster training, but they "have books to write" and "need to focus on our careers" and "don't you think this rivalry has gotten a little out of hand?" They're probably just helping Lauren raise her army of squirrels trained to ride moose into battle.

This is the third book of the trilogy and also a fairly short one wrapping up the "Cover Me" trilogy. It brings us back to Andrew the cop, and Nick, the paramedic, who now that everything has settled down have been having problems in their relationship. They are both suffering from PTSD and their respective traumas and there has been a lot of resentments directed at each other compounded by the intense irrational emotion common to trauma. It has produced a complete inability to process their emotions or to have a complete or meaningful conversation.

In spite of understanding what they were feeling, I also felt a fair amount annoyance with each of them. Nick is pulling away. There’s a lot going on in his head and he doesn’t know what to do with it and he can’t talk to Andrew about it, so he just wants to give up. Andrew has just as much going on internally as Nick does with his nightmares and the constant reminder of the event leading up to this time in his life his along with his ongoing surgeries and physical therapy.

Andrew seemed to be the most invested one in working on their problems and spent a good bit of time trying to convince Nick that they shouldn’t just give up and walk away, but every time Andrew tries to repair their relationship by talking about it; Nick says, “well what if it doesn’t help”?... , only to have Andrew respond, “Do you have any better ideas”? I wanted to yell "Well, No, Andrew, he doesn’t. If he had even one bloody idea, he wouldn’t be so hot to walk away!!!

Now let's examine Nick. When Jesse strangled him in book #1, I think the lack of oxygen must have killed a few important brain cells because trauma or not, he's just not making any sense whatsoever. “I feel trapped and obligated to stay with you because you took a bullet for me and I resent you, but I also love you and have been pushing you away because I’m afraid of losing you” . Really??? Talk about contradiction!!

Somewhere toward the end of the story they finally manage to have something that resembles a conversation that promises a HEA because at least they agree that they need therapy both alone and together. I totally agree. I liked this trilogy and I absolutely love L.A. Witt but I think I might be in need of some therapy after listening to these two.

The cover me series is wonderful and I have loved the characters in both books. But, finding out Andrew and Nick we’re getting a novella I didn’t know what to expect. And OMG It tore me apart So real so raw and I wanted to desperately to just hold them both.

Their love had to overcome PTSD ongoing injuries and the WHY? Why are we still trying? Why does it hurt so bad? Two men who don’t know how to communicate have to figure out how to make it work and is it worth it!

This review was originally published on my blog Joyfully Jay.

Search Me is the third book in the Cover Me series and continues the story of paramedic Nick Swain and detective Andrew Carmichael. The story picks up after the events of Trust Me and focuses on the relationship between the two men, rather than a police investigation like the first two stories.

When we last saw Nick and Andrew, they were recovering both physically and mentally from an attack by a mentally ill drug addict who tried to kill Nick and seriously wounded Andrew. In Trust Me we got a hint that things aren't running smoothly with the guys as they are arguing a lot and having trouble moving past the attacks. In Search Me we find that things have gotten quite dire. Nick and Andrew are always fighting and it is unclear whether their relationship will continue. In addition to the nightmares and mental stress both men are dealing with personally, they also each feel guilty for their role in the attack on the other. They spend their time snapping at one another and avoiding talking about their problems, settling for bouts of sex in between arguing or silence.

Unlike the first book, Search Me is told from Andrew's point of view. He desperately wants to work things out with Nick, but has no idea how to fix their problems. Even though they have been together around a year, the men only had a short time in their relationship prior to the attacks and neither one really knows how to get back to what they once had. They decide to take a few days away to try to work things out, but finding their way back to one another is proving to be the biggest challenge they have faced.

Even though this book deals with a painful time in their relationship, I was really excited to get to see Nick and Andrew once again. After getting the hints that things weren't going well in the previous book, I was glad to get things resolved here and know the guys are heading off on the right path. It was a little sad to see them struggling, but so realistic to imagine the toll the stress they faced would have taken on their relationship. It was also nice to see some of the other characters from the series, including Macy, Brian, and Eric.

I really enjoyed this story and even when fighting, these guys are as hot as ever. This book was a great end to Nick and Andrew's story. If you are a fan of the series, this is one you don't want to miss.

Wow! I expected a lot more from this book. All of a sudden they have these problems that I didn't even understand half of the time. Then, after some time, the author just ended the book with a short chapter. Too bad, I really liked Andrew and Nick and this was a let down :(

An emotionally difficult conclusion to the trilogy

Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.

Rating: 6/10

This story consists mostly of drama from the aftermath of the attacks that occur near the end of Cover Me, the first story in the trilogy. As a result, I didn’t find it much fun to read. The men fall into a pattern of “try to talk, get nowhere because it leads to an argument, fall back on sex.”

It is a pretty good in-depth look at a single topic--why the men’s relationship is on the rocks. But apparently my overall reaction to this writer (at least if reading the 3 stories in this trilogy are anything to judge by) is that I think she’s a good writer but I don’t really enjoy reading her stories.

This book is supposed to pick up the story of the two MC's in Cover Me, Nick and Andrew. The book opens and they now have all these problems and conflicts for which the author gives the reader no insight. The books is literally a couple of hundred pages of wallowing. Nick and Andrew were great characters and they (and we) deserved a better story than this.

After everything that happened in the first book it's uderstandable that the relationship between Andrew and Nick would take a hit, so I see why the author decided to write this novella. Was it believable ? Yes. Was it satisfying? I don't think so. It's a short story and there was a lot of internal thoughts, nightmares, sex and not enough resolution. You can't possibly expect me to be happy with something that got addressed only in the last two chapters and was sealed with yet another sex scene?! Bottom line, this book did nothing for me and I'd have gladly accepted the not so happy yet hopeful ending of the first book.

Oh my! This was SO PAINFUL to read! Nick and Andrew were such a perfect fit for one another and it really broke my heart to read about them having problems and thinking of saying good bye to their relationship. And yet it was all worth it as the writing really got to me and I genuinely liked reading it. I have no idea why I waited so long before reading it because it was totally worth it.

Cover Me - Trust Me - Search Me

These three books all include M/M romances, but are pretty good action / thrillers as well. I'd like to see more of these books from L.A. Witt, an author whose books I've recently been devouring. She writes strong characters who still grapple with their various insecurities and vulnerabilities. I recommend these three to read if you're looking for some good thrillers coupled with a good romance.

Andrew and Nick have been having problems ever since Andrew took a bullet meant for Nick, following Nick almost being killed. They both feel responsible for the others injuries and the guilt is killing them. Here's a tip -- getting counseling does not mean you're weak. And boy do they both need therapy -- together and alone. Instead of doing that, though, they assumed that their normal "don't think about it, don't talk about it" method would work. Um...no. Instead, they are tearing each other apart because they don't naturally have the tools to deal with everything they've been through.

Their situation really broke my heart. Relationships are hard work under the best of circumstances. And with Andrew being a cop and Nick a paramedic, work stress for them is higher than it is for most of us. Add to that what they were put through when their relationship was new and... damn.

For most of this novella, I was questioning whether our guys would make it. Things were pretty grim for a while. They get there, but it took hitting bottom for them to really decide for sure that their relationship was worth fighting for.

Damn, LA Witt can sure put her characters (and readers!) through the ringer. I'm sure I've said this before. Phew! We made it.

This audiobook is fairly short, but it is a must-read for fans of this series in my opinion. When we left Andrew and Nick in book 1, they seemed to have their HEA. However, readers of the second book will have realized that they are constantly fighting. SInce they were just secondary characters in 'Trust Me', I was glad the author decided to explore what went wrong in their relationship in a third book and I was surprised to see in what a serious condition their relationship is.

This book is all about saving the relationship and finding a way to deal with the traumatic past, that almost cost both characters their lives. I love that the author explores the long term effects of such traumatic incidents, be they medical or emotional and how they can affect a relationship.

After so much drama and action, it was good to put the characters in the focus and I thought their relationship troubles were handled very well. I loved this book!!!

Rien. Je ne sais même pas s'il y a un tome 4.
Vite lu, agréablement lu, mais encore 0lus vite oublié, probablement.
C'est un peu dommage

This is a short follow up of Nick and Anthony from the first book, Cover Me. Their relationship is in shambles and on the verge of ending because neither of these doofuses want to talk about their feelings. Ugh! There is an HFN here, don't worry, and they do finally start talking about their emotional baggage in a constructive way, which is good. I liked it but would've preferred a more HEA feel if this is the last in the series, and less focus on sex since it is short.

I wish I had never read this book. I felt awful while reading it. 90% of the story is spent with Andrew and Nick fighting and talking about breaking up or Andrew being introspective about breaking up. The resolution seemed a bit cheap after all the build-up. The writing was competent which is why I’m giving 3 stars.

Well, this is just a pitiful rerun of the first part of the series (Cover Me) but without a crime plot, only two men who are apparently in love with one another, have great sex but who can’t communicate although their problems are so futile that they can be solved within two sentences at the end. Very convincing. Duh….

Feeling a bit disappointed. I wanted to love this book as much as I loved the first 2 books in this series...but it just wasn't to be. I see others have given it 4-5 Stars and that's fine. Not everyone is going to love a book the same way.

It was a really sweet, small novella. TBH I felt like author added this book for no reason because we did not needed it. She could have done that in the first book but I am glad Nick and Andrew figured things out. 3 stars!

Search Me is a fairly short novella wrapping up the Cover Me trilogy. It brings us back to Andrew and Nick who now that everything has settled down have been having problems in their relationship. They are both suffering from PTSD and their respective traumas and there has been a lot of resentments directed at each other compounded by the intense irrational emotion of trauma and their complete inability to process their emotions and have a meaningful conversation.

Given that I was familiar with them as a couple from book 1 I did have a degree of emotional investment and could appreciate the angsty moments. But I also felt a fair amount annoyance with each of them as well. Nick is pulling away. There’s a lot going on in his head and he doesn’t know what to do with it and he can’t talk to Andrew about it, so he just wants to throw in the towel. Andrew has just as much going on internally as Nick does with his nightmares and the constant reminder of his aching arm and his ongoing surgeries and physical therapy.

Andrew annoyed me because he was invested in working on their relationship and spent a good bit of time trying to convince Nick they shouldn’t just give up and walk away from each other. So, every time Andrew insists they try to repair their relationship by talking about it; Nick says “well what if it doesn’t help”? only to have Andrew respond “Do you have any better ideas”? Well, No, Andrew, he doesn’t. If he had 1 bloody idea, he wouldn’t be so hot to walk away. Capiche?

And Nick? Don’t get me started on him, he annoyed me a bit in book 1. Now I’m pretty sure that when Jesse strangled him, he must have lost enough oxygen to kill a few brain cells because trauma or not, he is making no fucking sense whatsoever. “I feel trapped and obligated to stay with you because you took a bullet for me and I resent you, but I also love you and have been pushing you away because I’m afraid of losing you”. Does even he know what the fuck he’s talking about?

Somewhere towards the end when Andrew gets tired of asking Nick “please stay” and says “Okay go” which prompts Nick to say “Oh well, NOW I don’t think I want to go” – they manage to have some semblance of a conversation that promises a HEA because at least they agree that they need therapy both alone and together – so there’s that.

A coda that almost needed a coda. I have mixed feelings about this book because while I enjoyed it, and thought that if any couple needed to be revisited after the ending of their book it was Nick and Andrew, the revisit could have been handled a bit better.

One the one hand, I’m glad L.A. Witt chose to return to Nick and Andrew; not only did they meet during a high tension, traumatic situation, the entirety of their relationship happened under some seriously stressful conditions and ended with PTSD inducing events. So catching up with them after it all went down makes sense. However, I felt like since it was meant to be a novella, getting Nick and Andrew to an actual HEA was rushed towards the end. The book introduced the precariousness of their relationship and the underlying causes and spent so much time highlighting their misery that the resolution seemed abrupt and almost unearned.

It left me feeling that leaving them as they were at the end of "Cover Me", happy to have survived and together, was a better option if we were only going to revisit them to watch them be miserable together until they agree to get counseling.
