Originally published as part of the "Wickedly Exotic Spring Erotic Wonderland" Anthology, Subtle Magic by Josette Reuel is an erotic ménage short story about a woman who finds she was always just as she was supposed to be.
Growing up different had made life difficult for Harley Hawen, a Rhai’ud without magic; she had buried herself in her cooking and baking. Her only friend, her cousin and roommate, Jenna, was a true Rhai’ud with the looks and magic.
Resigned to a life alone and magicless, Harley worked at her parents diner and spent free nights with Jenna. Then six months ago a group of men on motorcycles rolled into town and Harley and Jenna’s dreams had become tormented.
Magic has a subtle way of making things happen.
Chase and Diesel were Gwar’Arth — bear shifters. The Den they had grown up in was becoming too tight for all of the younger males that were looking for mates, so they had brought their new Den members to a new home on Karhu Ridge.
Chase and Diesel were two-thirds of a Triad mating. They had found each other as young boys, but had never found their third. So, they rode into town that first day knowing that they had a third for their Triad out there somewhere, but they hadn’t realized that she would walk right out in front of them when they were least expecting it.
For six months the woman tormented them and did everything to keep away from them, but they had had enough. She would realize that they were all meant to be together, if it was the last thing both Gwar’Arth men did.
Josette Reuel has been creating stories since she was a small child. As an avid reader from her earliest memories, Josette enjoys many genres; however, her current passion is anything Romance. Oddly, it wasn't until her forties that her writing became a lot more grown-up. Josette believes in love at first sight, finding romance in the small things, and being open to exploring new things.
Josette writes M/F, M/M, menage, and reverse harem Contemporary, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, and Paranormal Romance of varying degrees of heat. She also co-authors those genres along with Dark Romance with her critique partner, S.E. Isaac.
She believes in realism along with the fantasy and writes her characters with a variety of body types and backgrounds.
Her stories often fall within the "Forever Safe" sub-genre with their love at first sight, fated-love themes.
This is a short sexy paranormal romance. Haley is a BBW who has always been disappointed because she has none of the family's magic. Her talent is in what she bakes for the diner and whenever she is stressed. In the last few months she has not been able to sleep without sexy dreams of two guys who are new to town. Chase and Diesel are bear shifters who have been together for years, but have always known they had a mate that would complete their triad. Now they just have to claim her without terrifying her. I would have preferred a bit more story to go with the sex. The characters are good and have so much more to offer.
A great short story of a young woman finally coming into her own. Unhappy with herself, how she looks, and what she felt were her shortcomings within her family of magical beings. Why didn't she have magical powers? Along come two wolf shifters, settling down not to far from her town, to begin a new pack as the population had grown too big in the pack they had been in. They have known since they were young that they were bonded mates, but were still looking and hoping to finally find their 3rd fated mate. This story tells of how they found each other and how she discovers she has always had power. It's up to not only the guys, but her family, to convince her that she does indeed have magic and that she is a beautiful women that is deserving of these two wonderful and loving shifters. Hope this is enough to get you to pick up this marvelous story, as I do not like to give spoilers. I recommend this delightful story to all who love paranormal romance and get a kick out of a caterpillar getting it's wings and learning to fly (in this case, believing in themselves and love).
This is the first book i have read by this author and i must say she packed a lot into such a short story . Chase and Diesel are two bear shifters and part of a triad . They left their old pack because it was getting a little too tight for comfort for all the younger shifters . So they moved to Karhu Ridge with some of the other members to set up a new den . There was also another reason they were drawn to this place but didn't realize it until she walked out in front of them literally . Will they all find happiness that they deserve . I absolutely adored the characters in this story Chase and Diesel are just so damn sexy and when one is domineering the other is sweet and kind . They are such a force of nature and as sexy as sin .They know what they want and they will wait no longer to take their mate . Harley is a witch but she says she doesn't have any powers . She feels insecure and not worthy of herself and of Chase and Diesel . She tries to keep them at bay but she can't deny that they are meant to be together . After they are together and Harley relaxes magical things start to happen . They are such fun characters to read . This is a short steamy read and man it does get steamy . Be careful the kindle might melt .The story is good and watching the metamorphosis of Harley is so awesome . So if you want a hot little read check it out
Who turned up the heat? Wow! This read is steamy, yet, gives a story line, which is rare in a lot of romance stories nowadays. Jenna comes with baggage, which after you learn her story, you completely understand. However, she's being watched by not one but two smoking hot men. Diesel and Chase, who just so happen to hate each other. The battle for love begins.
This story had me with from page one and kept me to the end. I love the way it was written in different points of views and nicely done at that.
A quick paranormal read. Harley didn't believe she had any magic and felt she was looked down upon by the other Rhai'ud families. Meeting Chase and Diesel changed everything. I felt as though I was just getting to know the characters and the story came to an end. I wanted more.
As the first ménage story that I've written, I was extremely happy with how this one turned out. It was an amazing ride learning about the three characters in this love triangle and making their world come to life on the page.
