When the red rain stops, will civilization survive?
As militant groups arm themselves and take to the streets, survivalist Simon Redfall and his band of freedom fighters scramble to uncover more facts about the swarm of red storms suffocating the planet.
The more they dig, the deeper the conspiracy grows. Yet, it all seems to point back to one man and his weather control technology, Jeffrey Hansen. A former military intelligence officer who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
When more of the puzzle comes together, Simon realizes the threat to humanity is even greater than anyone could have ever imagined. Something sinister is about to crawl out of the shadows and reveal itself.

There is continued action and forward plot movement in this second book that provides solid entertainment. My rating 4.25.
This installment picks up where the first book ended and I do recommend reading book one first. The story follows seven important characters or groups.
Simon is helping Tally and the other teens at Pandora take precautions for safer survival. The kids have pulled together materials to a make a Faraday cage for their computer room. While they are working on this, a young man walks up claiming to be from sent by Tally’s brother, Wyatt. He has sent a message that Jericho has been attacked by an unknown military force. Tally freaks out and wants to rush to her brother’s side even though the message is to stay away. Before they can execute a plan to check out the truth of the boy’s story, a military team shows up at Pandora.
A Nighthawk team is on their way to retrieve misdirected weapons when they receive orders to find Simon Redfall and get him to meet with General Nate Rawlings, and Director of National Intelligence, Nancy Wiggins. The government leaders need Simon’s help to find Jeffrey Hanson, the owner of Rain Tech, who may have something to do with the red rain.
Simon coerces the reluctant and adversarial Nighthawk team to accompany them to Jericho in exchange for Simon’s cooperation. When they arrive at Wyatt’s farm tensions quickly escalate. Then the rain stops as another unusual weather event brings a new form of chaos.
Meanwhile General Rawlings was on his way to a meeting with Wiggins when he takes a detour. He wakes up from a car crash facing a noxious group of Pennsylvanian hillbillies; the Carmichael brothers who are Wyatt’s rivals. Back in Washington, D.C., Wiggins is wondering where the General is when a strange electrical strike wreaks havoc on her meeting.
The head of Indigo Technologies takes a dive while spying on Nighthawk’s playboy leader. Indigo's "clean-up" guy, Zeke, is brought to the Indigo command center, where the cadre of lawyers and accountants introduce him to the inner workings of the mega company that seems to control much more than just security.
Jeffrey Hanson has made a ransom offer to buy his way out of the dilemma he swam into. He awakes to find himself abandoned in the bowls of a rusty cargo ship in an unknown port.
The story moves along at a quick pace with the variety of scenes, most with intense action; physical and emotional. As the warning notes, there is violence and brutality consistent (sadly) with lawless gangs.
A couple of the pieces of the conspiracy are beginning to be connected. I was wrapped up in anticipation of finding how all of it fits…just when this book ends. Now I have to wait for the next book to continue, and hopefully, resolve the puzzle.
Audio Notes: Once again Gary Tiedemann does a good job portraying the various characters. He provides the continual intensity and emotion that maintains the focus on the story. One issue I have with this book is Tally’s panicking and hysteria. I don’t know if her behavior would be quite so annoying in print as it was in the audio. I suppose this might be realistic for a teen girl scared for her brother but I found it stupid, inconsistent with her logical personality, and very annoying in the listening mode.
I received this audio book from the author for an honest review.
Although some of the authors plots can be a bit of a standard concept in most books and movies these days, Falconer knows how to add enough twist to make his books stand out from the mass. Even when I was starting to doubt his ability to have new ideas on old plots, he surprised me every single time!
This being the third book I've read of his, I think it's safe to say I really like his writing style. He packs it so full of action, it's almost non-stop. The climaxes in the book are often, with very little time in between. In this book, there seems to be a theme of conspiracy and espionage.
Of course, Falconer shows off his knowledge of military intelligence, and other combative training which goes great with his imagination on what the government and society would be like in the intense situations he writes.
One of my favorite aspects of Falconer's writing style is the way he can drop hints about the mysteries of the books, making the reader feel involved in the unveiling and uncovering process. He's definitely not one of those authors who just fills the pages with filler, everything he writes has purpose and reason.
All his characters are plenty developed, so it was great to get reconnected with them again, after book 1. I have already read book 1, and wouldn't recommend skipping it before reading. The characters are so badass they're worth becoming invested in with book 1. It's a 5/5 for me!
Freedom Fighters has probably the most original depiction of an EMP attack I've read yet. Falconer does a great job of keeping an interesting story moving in even more interesting directions. He also does a great job of balancing character development with plot events, the story never really slows too far to become boring.
As for the story itself, things are happening fast and blowing up big. I can't even really mention any of it without ruining the multiple surprises, but I'll just say what happens in the White House was a total shocker. There's some clues as to just who might be behind the hard reset of civilization happening, but he still hasn't given away the big picture yet. Just gonna have to keep reading on the next one.
I devoured book 1 and couldn't wait to jump into this one!! Well, this was as good, if not better, than book 1. Action packed, edge of your seat, exciting and addicting read!!!!
This starts where book 1 left off and we are drawn into the action straight away. Simon is helping the gang at Pandora set up a faraday cage because he knows that something may happen to the electronics and wants them to be safe. While this is ongoing, someone approaches the house saying they have been sent from Tally’s brother, Wyatt's, compound and that it is under attack. Tally wants to leave there and then but before they can, some military men have come on the scene saying they need Simon's help. What follows, is layers upon layers of stories, that accumulate into an absolutely breakneck story.
Character wise, we have all the same players but with some interesting new ones thrown in. Again, each of them are well written, developed but most importantly, easy to like and become invested in. Tally and Simon are amoung my favourites!!
Plot wise, this is such an entertaining, suspenseful and gripping read that I need book 3 ASAP!!! The author know show to tell a great story and how to keep the reader on their toes. We see some of the questions we had from book 1 answered but we are also left with more! The series promises to have an explosive finale and I can not wait!!!!
Gary Tiedemann knows this story and knows how to tell it properly. He has the right inflections to portray the tenseness of the book perfectly and knows when to ramp up the tension. He is a narrator to watch!!
There is a lot of action in this book and I do find the mystery as to who is causing this destruction and why to be very interesting. There is a bit of anti-left bias in the story which is mildly annoying and I also do not think that Lancaster county, Pennsylvania is located where the author seems to think. And yeah...I'm glad I make it a rule to never eat or drink any unsolicited items received in the mail.
Fun read...but technology heavy, but great combination...
Enjoyed the combination of survival genre and tech thriller...also like the idea that every person in the world doesn't have unlimited funds and a thousand weapons.
This is another nail biter. Hard to predict which is one of the reasons I am downloading the next one as soon as possible. Another really good book. Enjoy!
Follow Simon and his teenage counterparts as they search for more answers to who is behind the red rain
4.5 out of 5 stars
I will try my best not to write any major spoilers to the first book, but I make no promises since this is a direct continuation. Characters who are alive or not may be mentioned. If you have not read the first book, I would recommend you do so before you begin to read this review.
Redfall: Freedom Fighters picks up where the first Redfall book leaves off. The kids from Pandora are trying to gather information and work with Simon Redfall to figure out their next move. Wix’s brother’s camp has been attacked and now we must find out if he has made it or not. All the while the red rain still continues to fall.
Gary Tiedemann did the narration for Freedom Fighters and he did a fantastic job, just like the first book. Using different voices for different characters allows the listener to follow along easily and without confusion. I’m glad that Falconer is working with Tiedemann — he has the perfect voice for Simon and gives the kids and other characters great voices too.
Freedom Fighters answers a lot of questions from the first novel, but still leaves me asking some more when it finishes. And saying “finished” is a strong word to use as Falconer also leaves this book pretty open. I 100% understand that reasoning behind ending it where he did from a trilogy standpoint. But to me as a reader, I felt a little bummed out that I have to go and get the last book to get an “ending.” At least, I hope that there is some sort of conclusion in the third book.
The attention to detail is something that really keeps me coming back for more. You can really tell that Falconer knows his stuff. From weaponry to proper military formation and tactics — the Redfall series has it all. A master at the modern-day cliffhanger ending. (Even if it drives me nuts.)
With that being said, I still really enjoyed Freedom Fighters. Falconer really sucked me in with the first book and I feel for the characters and the unique plot. Well, this picks up where it left off and doesn’t really take his foot off of the gas until the book ends.
Overall, the story was just as interesting as the first Redfall book. Allowing the reader to be taken along for a thrill-ride full of undercover meetings, the mysterious red rain, the clouds, all their stored energy, and kids who won’t back down from a fight. Redfall: Freedom Fighters was a wonderful continuation of the series and I cannot wait to hear the third book!
An excellent sequel to the first 'Redfall' book by Mr. Falconer.
With many different characters with alternating points of view, the story continues in a fast-paced whirlwind! The red rain is falling and more people are not acting like they normally would..... What exactly is happening to the weather and the world?
Simon Redfall and his team of youngsters find more questions than answers in what is going on in the world. When an unexpected visitor shows up at the farm, more loss of life is coming. And when the sky glows with a pinkish color, the 'end of the world' might be closer than anyone imagined...
An action-packed story with so much more! Well-written and completely immersive. I'm excited for another book in this exciting series. Well done!
The red rain continues to fall and our team of "freedom fighters" continue to look for cause and effect. Then the color spectrum goes from red to pink and the world witnesses an intense and colorful lightening storm; essentially a gigantic light show. Anti-gravity effect made itself known and everything not nailed down, including people, floated 12 inches into the air. As suddenly as it started it stopped. The sun came out and the sky returned to its usual blue. Is it over? Heck no, read on. A confrontation with the Carnegie Brothers and a visit with the Amish are next on the list. An exciting conclusion leading to book three, Shadow Realm, when available.
These are fantastic books and I can't wait for the third installment. The only criticism I have is the author's obvious Republican bias and dislike for President Obama. That's incredibly annoying and pops me out of the book. Otherwise I would have given a 5 star rating, as these are some of the best written dystopian novels I've come across. The premise is refreshing and different than anything I've read previously.
