"Shushogi" is a simplified edition for laymen of "Shōbōgenzō" (正法眼蔵, lit. "Treasury of the True Dharma Eye") , which is written by the 13th century Japanese Buddhist monk and founder of the Japanese Sōtō Zen school, Eihei Dōgen. In the Sōtō Zen school, it is positioned as one of the most important scripts and considered as an excellent introduction to Zen Buddhism. The translator, Nukariya Kaiten is one of the greatest Buddhist scholar of Meiji Japan.
