The charms of Bamburgh Castle as seen through the eyes of Northumbrian artist Peter Phillips and words of the director of the castle Chris Calvert, with an introduction by Francis Watson-Armstrong.
Mostly these are just absolutely beautiful paintings and sketches celebrating Bamburgh Castle, but there's also a goodly overview of its interiors, furnishings, surroundings, history, the village itself, and even local wildlife. The captions suffer a little from occasionally being placed awkwardly on the page and sometimes you can't tell which piece it's referring to. I also sometimes felt myself wishing there was a bit more information: no, I can't tell which of these sketches is upside-down; which one is it? Is this a copy of the Turner painting you just mentioned, or is it just the same viewpoint? But there's obviously an amazing amount of expertise and knowledge that went into the creation of this beautiful book, and it's a lovely souvenir for anyone who knows and loves Bamburgh Castle.
