Erthe #2

Severance

Rate this book
It begins with a black swan; the storm gathers. A fledgling shapeshifter is exiled beyond the Wall, abandoned to her fate. Mother Erthe is in need; dark forces threaten her. Shiffante lords are angered by the folly of a vampire-elvin alliance. The butterfly girl, a wolf boy and an eagle are the only ones standing in the way of Shiffante terror. Assisted of course, by a ghost and the Beekeeper… there are no rules in this war. Darkness follows light, even into the chaos of blood drenched mirrorpools…

If you want an action-packed read, you won't be disappointed by this dark fantasy. Severance bursts along from cover to cover. You can hardly draw breathe. Menace and evil seem to be clawing at the characters heels. You can feel the protagonists straining to their limits to overcome the perils they face.
The plot twists and turns keeping you on your toes. Interesting new characters are introduced and enrich the tale, but you never lose the sense of danger being just round the corner.
One of the things I most liked, and found extremely memorable was the magic. The magic is exceptionally vivid and I'll picture it for a long time. You get the wonder of it- and the terror of it.
Fergal Nally's blends elements of Celtic mythology, dark fantasy and some terrific original ideas to create a world of dark lurking danger and gripping action. Above all though, its a rollicking adventure story!

A great read, fast paced and action packed. As YA action fantasy adventure goes this is exciting, very different and most of all entertaining. The story rips along and builds after a series of cliffhangers to a cracking conclusion. Recommended!
