Hello folks,
My name is Solomon Carter, and I am the author of the Roberts and Bradley PI crime thriller series, The Last Line international thriller series, the DI Hogarth Darkest series and more. I write mysteries, crime and thriller novels and more besides.

I was born in Southend, Essex and lived there for most of my life apart from eventful student days in South London. But my life in Southend was even more eventful still. I ended up working in a string of jobs including as a jobcentre clerk, a book seller, tutor for youth with low skills and low self esteem, mortgage broker, and latterly manager of a food bank which dealt with all kinds of interesting people facing all kinds of eye-opening, jaw dropping problems. Because of these ear-to-the-ground jobs the majority of my novels are set in Southend. In 2016 I moved to North Cornwall because I liked the idea of never-ending holidays - but I also write almost every single day. My aim is to write action-packed thrillers and page-turning mysteries that readers love and my hope is to get better at what I do with every book across each and every year.

I like to give away lots of free books as part of what I do. If you would like to receive some of these and get the exclusives on offer, than you're invited to join my free readers group at SolomonCarter.net. I won't spam you, just send the occassional email with news on the latest books and forthcoming freebies.

And if you want to see the memes, personal shares and other oddball stuff I do, then you can join me at Facebook via www.facebook.com/solomoncarterwrites and join the fun there too.

What I am good at: telling stories
What I am bad at: dancing, being patient.
What I love: nature, the seaside, adventures
Writers I heartily recommend: Lee Child, Ian Rankin, Henning Mankell, Val McDermid, Harlan Coben, Robert Crais.
Writers I need to read more of: Val McDermid, Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly and others.
Other things I do beside writing: at present I like to keep my running going to balance out the sitting behind a laptop (a habit inspired by Haruki Murakami's 'What I talk about when I talk about running' - a great book).
-I am currently doing surf lessons. When in Rome, as they say...
-Getting out into nature as the weather allows.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Until then I'll keep on writing. Or running. Or surfing. Or chasing my children around the house.

All the very best,
Solomon :)

if you have enjoyed any of my books, I'd be honoured if you could post a review. Those reviews really do help!

Not really my cup of tea. I always like to visualise the events taking place, but really struggled with this one. Some of the geographical content had me puzzled, and I found some of the context difficult to come to terms with. The plot was different, but not necessarily credible as far as I was concerned. I'm sure others will enjoy it, but it wasn't for me.

Oh dear!!

I was looking forward to reading this book. Oh dear how wrong was I. The content was unbelievable and crass. Although the characters were a team you could be confused into thinking they were a bunch of individuals. Trying to down a Russian plot to take over the UK with just 5 individuals is not possible just as killing people in broad daylight isn't a!so.
I was very disappointed with this read Solomon Carter. Not up to your usual standards I'm afraid and I won't be reading anymore of The Last Lines series.

The first of two, this espionage tale includes Eva and Dan, the private detectives from other stories I've read (I prefer the crime stories to the spy stuff). It has plenty of action and sees Eva alongside Jenna, an ex-M16 agent attempting to foil a plot against the UK.

Although in a different setting than usual, it was good to see familiar characters with the newer and how the plot unfolded.

The writing style was fast-paced and I liked the dialogue between various characters. There were twists and turns together with tension and suspense.

Worth reading.

I got this book because I saw in Solomon Carter's "New reading list" that Dan, and especially Eva get involved with The Company - a group of disparate people who left the government or armed forces groups, fighting against a Russian plot to overturn British institutions and the country. They can't trust anyone because they don't know who is involved in the plot. It's a departure for Dan and Eva from their own PI stories, and the action literally never stops - even at the end its full steam ahead to the next instalment!

A thrilling read

I discovered Solomon Carter as an author a while back and since reading the first book I had written by him I have become hooked. This book did not disappoint me and again I am waiting to read the second in this series. I would highly recommend him for anyone who likes reading thrillers or espionage because this book was great.

The Last Line -

I’m really struggling to review this book. Whilst the book was action packed, I was a little unsure about the plot and the fairly quick conclusion. A 3.75 out of 5 from me.

I’ve read several by this author. This one’s exciting and interesting. Some twists add to the mix and the espionage plot holds up well.

The first in a new series featuring Eva and Dan working alongside The Company, a shadowy organisation based in the UK, but without government oversight.

An exciting change of scene and pace for the private detective duo.

This book dragged a little bit for me. I'm not sure if it's because some of the character development may have been done in earlier books, or that the story line moved a little too slowly for me.
