The new children from the first series. A man who will protect the h and her daughter from her evil rapiest.

I liked the hero and heroine in this story; however, all the background noise took away from my enjoyment of the story. I wish the two main characters had been allowed to fall in love without having to deal with so much drama. Every Highland story does not need to be wrapped in brutality.

Montclair's writing has VASTLY improved.
This one was verra verra good. I liked how she added more conflict, and conflict not so easily resolved. There were more "tricks" I fell for like seeing the kings injured hand, and thinking he was in on the deception plot. I love the hero and am finding that her heros are becomming in general, more likable.
She added more "loving" scenes which I am always happy for, but I wished she wouldn't rush them so much and vary them a bit more.
The pace was much faster and I felt far more emotional in this read. A good thing.
I did however still feel the antagoinst dialogue still a bit too cliched at times. And although she writes the parts of the children well, it still seems a tad bit too much. I find the children to be irritating more than cute. I did skim over alot of the child play and think if she instead used this valuable page time to add more details in other areas it would have been better. As it is, the book is only 204 pages bordering in my opinion on novella and with such shorter stories page time should be conserved. It would have been nice to have a bit more elaboration of the wedding and I was expecting more intimate times with Torrian to see him help her come out of her shell, and start to overcome her fears.
I plan to continue the series and see what is in store for Lily. At this point, I feel so connected with the clans it would be hard for me when the series ends. (I've read all 8 Grant Clan books as well)
My hopes are that the author lenghtens these stories and adds more details about the characters thoughts, feelings and past. Maybe even including more physical descriptions like facial expressions or body language.
So far this series is already off to a great start and I hope it continues.
This can be a stand alone, for the author does a fine job recounting previous events, but I strongly urge people to read them all, because I still feel one would lose a lot without it.

I really enjoyed the plot line of this book. I think there was more plot than romance in this particular book but I didn’t mind it at all. It was really nice to see beloved characters come together to support one of their own get out of a forced marriage/political manipulation type situation.

Though I wish hero and heroine were left to fall in love in peace, it was a pleasant read. Very thrilling and insightful. Will recommend!

This was a pretty good story, a bit dramatic at times, but still captivating. Well written. There is tons of characters and it is all pretty easy to follow.

I really enjoyed it!
Ok, I have to say I liked Torrian more than Loki. He was decisive and strong. Heather wasn't a bad heroine either. She kind appears out of nowhere and disappears again in the other books in this series though.
You start page one interested in Heather. Why does she live by herself with her daughter? Who is she afraid of? She seems smart enough; if not driven a lot by fear.
Torrian is confident, which I like. He doesn't suffer from irrational self-doubt leading him to make dumb decisions, which I see a lot in other romance stories and is one of my pet peeves. He's also sweet. There are several scenes between him and his dogs that are really cute and he's sweet with Nellie and his little sisters.
This book starts an on-going conflict for the Grants and the Ramsay's that lasts for several books. As a result most of the conflict comes from external sources, meaning that the main characters don't have to make stupid decisions in order to keep the plot going...yay!
I actually thought this was one of Montclair's better books so far. The bad guys were a little over the top as usual, but I really enjoyed the read. Also the big climatic face off between the heroes and the villain was better than in her previous books. It was a little longer, and a bit more suspenseful.
I will say if you're sensitive to triggers there is and attempted rape scene in the book. Other than that it's all very sweet between Torrian, Heather and Nellie. Overall it's a cute, sweet book. If you've enjoyed Montclair's books in the past I would definitely recommend it.

Obsessed with this series
I loved this book I could barely stop reading it. Read into the wee hours of the morning. I highly recommend this book. If you like the characters from the clan grant series you will love this one.

Torrain is the second book in the Highland Clan series by Keira Montclair. The first book was Loki, but while readers of the series will have some more knowledge of the characters and clan relations, newcomers can still fully enjoy the read.

Torrain is a complex romance. I was intrigued by the quick appearance Heather made in Loki, she was there from a split second, and I wanted to know her story which is why I bought this one. I enjoyed her character, she was strong and perfectly capable of fending for herself and is eager to learn more in order to improve her skills. If it were not for her daughter being ill she would never had come out from hiding (and would likely have never been in hiding to begin with). Although it seemed like the explanation of why she was hiding seemed to take forever to come out- and when it did it seemed to unnecessarily complicate the story with no real purpose. I liked that Torrian is self aware and not stuck in the self doubt that Loki was. He is intelligent and caring, and while dealing with obligations is not afraid to stand up for himself and those he cares for. I enjoyed the complex conflict, and the fact that smart and sassy young girls were the ones that ultimately saved the day. My only issue was that the conflicts got to be too much after awhile, and thought a resolution could have been reached without quite as many battles and twists.
Torrain is a compelling historical romance with more than enough conflict and danger to keep readers going. I liked the characters and think this is a perfect weekend read.

This is a good Highlander romance, and a good addition to the Highland Clan series. This one gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4 stars.
I have liked Torrian ever since he was introduced in the Clan Grant series. He was such a sweet kid, even when he was so sick, and I was glad we got his story. I still liked him as an adult, but it bothered me that his father and uncle didn't fight the king's decree for his betrothal a little more. Based on the Clan Grant series, that was completely out of character for Quade and Logan Ramsey -- it just didn't make sense that they would be willing to sacrifice Torrian's happiness.
I liked Heather a lot, and understood how her past drove her behavior. What happened to her before she met Torrian was so sad, and it bothered me that her grandfather had never explained that it wasn't her fault. I did think, though, that she would have been traumatized by her rape, and would have been terrified of sex. So I don't think she would have wanted to have sex with Torrian so quickly.
I was glad that Torrian and Heather found their HEA -- they were good together, and they both needed someone who understood them.
I also liked most of the other characters, especially the children, who were just adorable. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

As a senior, I find this series sad but necessary and well written. When we’re young, we are so busy it’s impossible to think of being old. I remember attending my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary when they appeared so old. It seemed only a few days when my 50th came around. Where did time go?
The author has done a wonderful job of transiting the young couples into parents and now passing the torch to their Aires with more excitement, and each story quite unique as real life truly is.
I’m happy to have discovered I’m 43% Scottish and 28% wales which led me searching - and finding - these stories. I’m an adopted child and never had a stable childhood, and the way the women are protected have kept me reading well into the night. Thank you Keira. By the way I have a granddaughter named Kiersten so you have made this 74 year old happy with your books🤗

When Nellie falls ill, she runs and seeks Brennas help. She then stays at the keep while her daughter heals. Torrian is then dictated to marry a rival clans daughter to help settle some unrest. When he meets Davina he feels and sees decent in her. He is then set up by her father, Ranulf and her brother and King Alexander dictates they marry in two days. With the help of his family and with Heather by his side they will fight to make sure this union does not happen. A wonderful read and a great story!

The story has some suspense, drama, mystery and plenty of love.
I loved the characters..the subject of pre -arranged marriage and how mean and land hungry other clan/tribe's can be. The sad fact of how women were treated way back in the day, yet women raising their daughter's to be strong and independent..and the wife's having important roles in their husband's daily decisions. I could go on and on but don't want to be a spoiler ~
Even if you didn't read Loki first, you'll be able to get the connections and history.

Whew !!
The son of a laird is ordered by the king to marry a girl from a different clan. No way he wants to do that. She compromises him and he is ordered to go through with it. In the meantime he's become friends with a girl and her daughter who live in a cave. The betrothed, her father and others from her clan come for the wedding. They are caught cheating at games and the betrothed is caught in the stables having relations with one of their henchman; who is overhead saying he will kill her husband in two years to get control of the land. The last chapters are exciting as the man & his family travel to visit the king. One of the young nieces has some evidence that takes care of things.

I've obviously read at least one other book on this series and I bet I whinged about the painfully upright characters, despite an overabundance of villains. And WTF is up with the king, making arbitrary decisions based on so few facts? This was pretty much one long, miserable wait for the bad outcome not to happen. Not fun.

I was hoping I could give this a four or five star review but it truly was just ok for me. There were so many instances that were unbelievable to me; one of them being how the very little girl talks so grown up, but there were others also. In addition, there were times it just seemed so saccharine sweet I just couldn't buy in to it. I also was longing for more action in the story.

I love reading about the difficulties that couples had for this era. Love was so different from how people relate nowadays. Torrian grew in character and strength even though he had a horrible situation to overcome . And Heather learned to trust. I would truly recommend this story.

I love the clans that Keira has created. They feel like old friends. It is as a good story. Some of the love scenes were a little ridiculous as to the seemed more like lust than love. The attack scene wouldn’t have happened that way to the Ramseys that way. They would never have been unprotected in their castle

Very much enjoy the characters and how they are developing from previous book into current story. Still bit of conflict/mystery and romance but not overwhelming. Looking forward to next book in this series.

I so enjoyed reading the second book about the cousins. Keira's books are so easy to read. The story just seems flow and not go on for 5 pages on one subject. I am off yo read Lily's story to what mischiefs she gets into.

Enjoyable
A nice tale of highlanders dealing with subterfuge and greed intertwined with romance and family ties being found. Some things move a bit quickly without the story details to back up the forward push.

I love these stories about the next generation of Grants/Ramseys. They are very well written and the close family ties just make me love these stories even more.

This was such a wonderful story - a honorable, future Ramsay Laird & a young woman with a small daughter. Torrian & Heather had a lot of obstacles to climb but never gave up on the love they felt for one another. I highly recommend this book & the entire series, you won't be disappointed!
