I hate that I hated this book, because I truly wanted to love it! The premise set out to be great, but the execution sucked.

Again, as in every book she wrote before (that I've read) Ancelli tries to tackle real life issues military veterans have to deal with when they are back from war. We are talking PTSD, disability, the loss of a child, low self esteem, walking out on your spouse. homelessness. You name it, Maya and Jesse, the protagonists in this book, have been through it.

I knew, going in, that this would be a drama fest. Because that's a typical Ancelli experience. I also knew, remembering that I didn't like her last book that much, that this one would be my last try: would it be hit or miss. Sorry to say: miss.

The aforementioned issues would seem enough drama for a couple to deal with and to make a great story without having to add a lot of shenanigans. But no, there was the added new partner who had to be a dick about Maya and Jesse reconciling, a mother in law that had issues with her daughter in law being black (please why this again?), overbearing and overstepping families. Sheesh, enough already.

What totally killed me though: the overly cheesy (inner)dialogues and scenes that didn't make sense. Like when the dicky new (now ex) partner has a chance encounter with the reconciled couple and he sees them kissing and makes a scene. While doing so he grabs Maya and Jesse pushes him telling him never to touch his wife again. Dicky ex partners acts surprised by the mention of 'wife' as if he didn't know the two were still married. Which can't be true because in the beginning of the book he was trying to get Maya to let go of her wedding ring. So, inconsistent much?

Nah, I suffered thru this one because I wanted to know how much drama Ancelli could squeeze into one story. Quite a lot, which is a talent, I suppose. So kudos there. I'm done, though. Mary J. Blige was right: no more drama!

So the hero knows the heroine thought he was dead for the past 3 years but never picked up the phone to speak to her despite saying how much he loved her

He chose to be homeless rather than live with his wife

You call this romance? I call this a cowardly guy who couldn't hack it and cowardly heroes do not belong in my romances

This is another great love story by Ancelli.

This is Jesse and Maya's story. A beautiful story of love that has to over come adversity and work through misunderstanding and forgiveness to arrive at a second chance at love.

If you want to read about true love and how true love can conquer and triumph over, trauma, heartbreak, torture, pain suffering, grief and misery, then this is the story to read because it has all those elements in this storyline.

I would highly recommend this story.

Breathless!

Ancelli is my one of my sheroes! Her books are always about real life issues and she treats the topic with dignity and respect. Wounded warriors, grief and depression are real and played an integral part of this story.

Jesse and Maya are a military couple surviving and recovering from the effects of PTSD, amputation, death of a child, depression and walking away when the pain gets to be too much. The strength it takes to survive one if these issues has broken people and marriages. But to bear all of these issues created a rift in their marriage and one of them walks away. Can their love survive one of them walking away? Can the emotional and mental wounds be healed? Buy the book and find out for yourself.

This book will touch many and is worth every dime. Thank you Ancelli and job well done.

A great love story!!

This is the love journey of Maya and Jesse! Maya and Jesse are in The Armed Forces. Jesse beats the love of his life after Maya Hurt her leg while playing basketball. Maya went to the drugstore on base to get Advil for the pain in her leg. The person she had to get this pill from was Jesse. One look at Maya and just knew you knew this was the girl for him. Jesse held up her Advil for over an hour. Just so he could personally give it to her once he got off from work. He took her out to a nearby restaurant and as they say the rest is history. I really don't want to give away anything but this story has it all. Love tragedy death homelessness lost limbs and finally redemption. Ancelli truly outdid herself with this one. The story will make you laugh cry roll your eyes suck your teeth and clap your hands. Guarantee you'll love the story I totally recommend this book definitely five stars.

4.0⭐️ I feel very ambivalent about this book. I enjoyed this story and really loved Maya & Jesse. Nonetheless, while I applaud the author for undertaking some very weighty issues, it seemed to be too many (loss of Jesse's foot while deployed, loss of a newborn, Maya's loss of trust, mother-in-law angst, muggings, PTSD . . . . Some angst is good, but too much is overkill. I also feel that there was a bit of repetition, which got to be tedious. Further, I wish that I could edit this book. The mistakes were glaring ones with run-on sentences, wrong words, misplaced commas, etc. Overall, however, the story was engaging, and I enjoyed it despite the missteps.

Wow

This book, wow just wow, although it was more somber than usual, it also was more romantic when he got started on the right path. This book also shed light on depression and when someone is suffering from it how polluted their judgement is.

This is Ancelli at what she does best. Real life situations with just enough spice. What do you do when your mind say let go but your heart is still holding on. When words are not meant to wound but to express your pain. Where understanding and forgiveness is given without harsh repercussions. Take a ride with Jesse and Maya that would have your heart string and emotions all over the place until they come full circle to "Finally Home".

Ancelli has delivered yet again as I had no doubt that she would. This is a story that shows that true love is actually possible. Maya and Jesse proved that if you truly love someone that time nor circumstance can't ever change that. It a heart wrenching and heart warming story showcasing beautifully the effect of true everlasting love as I have come to expect from Ancelli - Dawn

Tear Jerker

Ok....I absolutely love Ancelli; I love how she incorporates real life situations into her stories.

I have first-hand experience with the effects of PTSD on a military vet, my dad. I've always wondered what he was thinking when he zoned out but was always afraid to ask; he always looked so tortured.

The one thing I loved the most about this book was the awareness brought to this mental disease that strikes so many of our military personnel. People need to see and know that there but for the grace of God go I. Homeless veterans hurt my heart....now I better understand the reasoning behind their choice to just leave.

I was all up in my feelings reading this love story.....oh don't get it twisted, it's still an Ancelli styled love story. Unwavering support, unwavering commitment, unwavering love. Love conquers all....stamped by Ancelli!!

It was a little bit cheesy at times, but the storyline was good. It goes to show that you never know what someone is going through. It got four stars in lieu of three because of the seriousness of the story. I will definitely read something else by this author.

SPOILERS AHEAD……

I really want to give it a 4 but there were just a few parts that I kind of side-eyed.

I really wish they dug deeper in to Jesse’s feelings of insecurity, and Maya’s anger management/smart mouth. He just kept saying, I didn’t feel like I was good enough and I didn’t want to burden anyone. Well, how did you get there? Where exactly did these emotions and thoughts stem from? Were the other big things a factor? Don’t tell me the transition of loosing a limb wasn’t tumultuous. Don’t tell me you don’t have even a little PTSD from being blown up. Or from the sexual misconduct from Nancy? Also, how did you adjust sooooo quickly from being homeless and alone, to being at home again, and the parent of a toddler? Also…you can drive with a new prosthetic…without intense physical therapy…merely days after getting it? Sex wasn’t weird the first time figuring out movements and balance? Positions? You could just pick up a toddler…on crutches…without the prosthetic…and go around the whole table, with no problem?

I thought it was crazy that Maya and Jesse were offended and upset when people kept asking where he’s been, like it hadn’t been years he was missing, and PRESUMED DEAD! If that’s the first time I’ve seen you since the new discovery , of course I’m going to have questions. Now once you answer it, I don’t need to ask anymore. But I don’t think it’s out of order to wonder what happened when you’ve been gone for years and now you’re back.

Also, the baby delivery scene was WILD! Took me out. So unbelievable, it was entertaining.

This was an EXCELLENT book.

The passion between JESSE AND MAYA is beautiful, explosive, and electrifying. Maya is a strong female character and that in itself what part of what kept me to reading this book. Maya never gave up on her hope of believing that Jesse was alive and would one day return to her. Yes, just when she decided to start new and live her life, she reconnected and found the love of her life. Maya had a lot of unanswered questions from Jesse, and she was determined to get all of his answers. Maya wanted, no needed her husband back and would do anything and everything for Jesse to get better and be not only the man he was, but a better man for her. I loved that Maya was a true RIDE OR DIE she is the epitome of standing by her man.

JESSE was broken, both mentally and physically. The problems that he had and the hurt he felt he couldn't let Maya know, what he was going through. Jesse is the type of man that believe he as the head of the house should be able to rightfully provide for his family. Yes, he saw Maya has not only his soulmate but his helpmate, but he wanted to provide for his family and help her to reach her dreams. When tragedy struck, he was devastated and broken and just didn't know how to cope and talk it through with his MAYA. That feeling made him be away for 3 years. However, once he finally returned home, he was determined to be that better man for her.

Ms Ancelli did an amazing job writing this book. She addressed real life issues with real life results. The book was well written and kept me wanting more. Like I for stated she touched on real life issues and the real-life repercussions of those issues. The loss, the pain, the PTSD it was all written very well. I enjoyed this book immensely. Ms. Ancelli has a way of making you fall in love with her characters. Each of her books I have read, I have not been disappointed.

On the fence

To start with this book is an urban novel so if it’s not you it’s hard to read at times. They were a lot of different threads at the same times so again hard to follow. The brothers were just weird. Lala was right Ric was weak minded.
Eve’s reason to kill her son’s father was dubious. As for her trusting these brothers and letting her son involved into the brothers web and their battle with their father is silly. She is basically doing the same thing as these entertainers, she’s selling herself for a big house and IG fame. On top of that she’s helping their cause without knowing what it is. I also disliked her attitude with Quincy’s fate. I think the story would have been stronger if she was really attached to him and wanted to help him come back. I thought it was poor form to get her to flirt with his cousin and potentially sleep with him. Certain lines shouldn’t be crossed. Boundaries and all.

Awesome

This is what any couple want that love 💕 that is everlasting. Maya & Jesse to me they were each others ride or die. Even when Jesse lost his way for a moment, I loved how Maya stood up for her man with others. My emotions were everywhere I cried, I laugh, I enjoyed the foreplay & love scenes. I know I’ll be reading this story over and over again, because it’s was written by one of my top favorite authors. This last week of September & first week of October it was re-read all of my books that I had by Ancelli. I totally Enjoyed myself. 🙏🏾🥰🙏🏾🥰🙏🏾🥰🙏🏾🥰🙏🏾

Great Story

I am a fan of this author. I have the majority of her books but I would always hesitate when it came to this particular book. I really thought that I would not like it and didn't want to waste my time nor my money. I finally gave in and decided to go ahead and buy it. Was I totally surprised. It was an amazing story of a man who lost his way in after being kicked by life just to many times. And an amazing wife who wouldn't give up on her husband. What GOD put together you have to some time be willing to fight to keep.

This was wonderful!

I only comment on books really touch me and this was one of those. This is a story of all of our lives, especially in these deadly times. There but for the grace of God go all of us. Our fortunes can change in the blink of an eye! This couple faced their issues with such courage. I hope that it gives everyone the hope it gave an old cynic like me. Loved this story!👌🏾👏🏾👏🏾🥰

Wow...🤗

Ancelli's characters are so realistic. So heartbreakingly relatable. I love how she doesn't shy away from the tough topics and our all too human strengths and weaknesses. Jesse, Maya and Belle had me all in my feelings...crying, laughing, swooning and more at once. Being true to oneself, each other and not being afraid to voice ones authentic voice are vital keys to the survival of any relationship. What a treat....enjoy peeps..😅👍👏

This was beautiful heart felt story. Oh my goodness Jesse had to hit rock bottom to know that he was blessed. Maya was strong and loving, she was what Jesse needed and vice a versa.

Everyone has a right to their opinion and I truly respect that. The way I see it, it depends on what you expect from the book before you even read it. It didn't have all the drama that I thought it would have but that doesn't mean it wasn't a great book. I truly enjoyed it! I found myself praying for Jesse to fight and get his life and family back. I was proud of how Maya never lost hope that her husband was still alive when everyone else gave up. To me that's not denial, that's real love; a true soulmate!
As a mother of a former Marine with PTSD, I found it encouraging that light was shone on the very misunderstood mental disorder and those with it struggle to survive! It was more than just a love story about two people who were truly soulmates! It was about dealing with depression and how the mind is a powerful thing! It's easy for those who've never had to live with depression or know someone living with it to not see the blessing in this story. For that I'm sad, because this story shows us that we need to have more love and compassion for our military and the struggles they face after truly giving their life for all of us. Even those that disrespect and look down on them. They sacrifice so much and it's ripple effect can be devastating! Nobody chooses to be homeless or be depressed! As powerful as the mind is, it's also very fragile! No matter how strong we think we are, we all have our breaking point!
Sometimes we have to see past the mechanics to get to the true meaning of the story! For general purpose I give it 3 stars, only because it didn't have the nail biting drama I thought it would have. The story I give it 5 stars because it truly showed the reality of depression and how people struggle with it and how others treat them. For me it was an awesome read! Remember, there but for the grace of God go I.

This is the first book I've read by this writer.  I truly wanted to love it! The plot set out to be great, but the presentation was miss due to so much unclear drama...This book touches are some great topics and encompasses love and true devotion, abandonment and parent having issues with their son marriage across the color line( Can we move on from that issue the heart doesn't know but one color which is RED!!) This is the story of Jesse and Maya. Jesse woke up one morning and just disappeared from Maya's life for years. He returned without a reliable explanation and expected everything to be the same. I had several questionable issue with the situation because if a man walked out on a woman, why she didn't file for a divorce and changed the lock on the doors and once the finalization is complete get into another relationship. That action would've taken care of the encounter with the new ex-boyfriend. Maya was weak and a doormat for Jesse. I thought she was CRAZY for getting upset  with anyone for wanting answers. Overall, a confusing and it appears unrealistic.

I loved this story of Maya and Jesse. We owe a lot to our military men and women. This love story is of two people who came together in service to their country. However, that service caused them to nearly lose their marriage, their love for life and family. Jesse walked away from his wife and marriage after a life altering event. Maya blamed herself for her husband leaving her for 3 years.
Jesse became homeless, Maya became an officer. An early lunch date over waffles brought these two back together. Maya has to find out why he left and apologize. Jesse wants her back, but feels like less than a man. Maya has a secret that will alter Jesse's life again. Can Jesse push through his pain and win his wife back?
Great story of love, acceptance and healing. Thank Ms Ancelli for writing this work who will touch the hearts of all who read it.
