If you could save the thing your lover cherished most, would you? No matter the cost?
All he wants is to be healthy and play hockey again. Sidelined by a brutal concussion, hockey star Mason Clifford worries that he'll never fully recover. Alone, frustrated, and desperate to feel wanted, he accepts a helping hand from his team's Captain. But is friendship all it is? Mason is straight. Or at least that's what he's always told himself.
He'll deny his own heart to help the one he loves. Ben Banks, the stalwart Captain of the Las Vegas Aces, has wanted Mason for a long time. But he pushes aside his feelings to help Mason through his physical therapy and recovery, because he'd rather care for Mason as just a friend than make a move and lose him forever.
A forbidden cure could save them. Ben can't stand to watch Mason suffer. Especially when he's sitting on a potential cure. What nobody on the Aces knows is that Ben is a wolf shifter, possessed of superhuman health and strength. And if he dared to turn Mason, maybe Mason could be that strong, too...
The closer Ben lets himself get to Mason, the more things spiral out of control. He wants Mason so bad it's all he thinks about. And Mason doesn't seem to mind.
Until Ben makes a mistake that shatters the life they've been building together to pieces.
The Wolf Inside is a standalone novel with a HEA about a fiercely protective wolf shifter and the man he claims as his mate. NO cliffhangers. This book is approximately 50,000 words and contains steamy, adults-only gay romance.
Growing up, Wolf believed there was a ghost in his attic. To this day, he still believes that ghost creeps out of the shadows from time to time. He wishes it would say hello.
Wolf's stories explore the complicated, sensual bonds between men. There are always happy endings just as there is always a dash of otherworldly delight.
Really more 3.5 stars but it was so sweet, I rounded up. Mason's suffering really got to me. It wasn't something I can remember reading about before and I had no idea concussions sucked so bad. Then we have Ben, his captain and friend. He steps up and helps him though whatever he can but knows he can help more. I do wish we'd gotten an explanation on how he managed to "infect" Mason and the sex could have been so epic between these two but neither happened. Good read though.
This gives a good combination of supernatural (werewolf) and natural (hockey). I enjoyed how well it flowed, it didn’t seem like it would move the way it did. It left me with some confusion tho. Maybe could use a continuation? I feel they could have more to their story. It ends with a HEA and no cliffhanger.
This was a very unique story. Putting together two of my favorites in mm books... Shifters and Ice Hockey.
I loved both Mason and Ben. They were wonderful as friends and even better as lovers. The chemistry between them was good. The angst was medium with most of it being about Mason and his lingering injuries.
I believe my reaction when I stumbled into this was "! wait. its a hockey book and a weREWOLF BOOK ???! my god. ... .. yeah, I tthink I kind of habe to read it"
Turns out, I liked most of the first 70%(?) but the ending was strage, not enough was happening for how long it dragged on. I also found very odd the decision to never explain why Mason became a wolf.
Liked the approach on the werewolf. It was interesting to take in all the aspects of the life of the characters, the injury, the hockey... It was a great build up and it leads to a healthy relationship which I can only love.
Rating 3.5 I really liked the emotion of this story and I love a good gay-for-you story. I thought the setup was a good one, should he or shouldn't he turn Mason to heal him? The details of aspects of concussion recovery were interesting and new to me as well. My personal enjoyment was lessened because I'm not a sports/hockey fan; I think anyone who was would really enjoy all details and thrilling scenarios on the ice. I think it put me closer to a 3 star rating but I rounded up for the great chemistry Wolf created between Mason and Ben. I read on KU and it's not an insta-buy for me but good enough that I will still try his other sports-themed title.
I love a good book about hot guys, add hockey to it and I'm sold! Mason and Ben are one hot couple, their love story is sweet and honest. The plot, two guys struggling with adversity (Mason's head injury) and falling in love is poignant and heartfelt. Add in a little wolfish and it's a hit.
