Welcome to Hell...

Meet Johnny Fitzgerald, a lonely, divorced graphic illustrator with a major heroin habit. When Johnny accidentally gets trapped inside a deserted self-storage warehouse with his six-year-old son, he is forced to face demons both real and imagined.

For the next 10 days, father and son fight for their lives. They battle thirst, hunger, and perhaps the worst human craving of them all -- heroin withdrawal. But this is only the beginning of Johnny’s painful education in de-tox. Because there is something dark and terrifying behind Johnny’s dope-sick hallucinations ... something touched off by the place itself.

From the New York Times bestselling author of THE WALKING DEAD: INVASION comes a book that mixes the brutal surrealism of Chuck Palahniuk’s FIGHT CLUB with the dark fantasy of Clive Barker. SELF STORAGE will keep you up at night long after you reach the brutal conclusion.

Self Storage is the first all out masterpiece I've read this year. Heroin addicted father has his son for Christmas and they go to old dad's Stash-It-Away storage unit on the way home. Then one wrong move seals them within the storage unit. By the time the last employee leaves, it looks like they'll be spending Christmas in a very dark room where the red pilot light comes on every fifteen minutes and makes everything look even scarier than it does in the dark. Then they start to get hungry and thirsty, the dad starts going into withdrawal several hours in, and none of that is the worst part of all, because now they're starting to hear terrifying noises that seem to get closer to their unit all night and into the next day. This one is really raw and terrifying. A true gamechanger with an ending that didn't suck, didn't end on a cliffhanger, didn't give evil every advantage while taking every advantage from the two main characters. This was riveting. A really great read. Even more nerve wracking than Gerald's Game.

Finally, the little cherub smiled. “I promise you, he won’t be taking any more of that medicine.” Out of the mouths of angels. Sweet Jesus. I’m trying.

Not since Stephen King's Misery have I been unable to put a book down until I finished the last page. Jay Bonansinga's Self Storage is, hands down, the scariest, most claustrophobic novel I've read in years. Part thriller, part ghost story, part fever dream, it's a tale of love and redemption and the power locked within our own minds - and those of children. If you're a fan of The Shining, you will fall head over heels in love with Self Storage. This is a haunted house story for a new century - and for us old-schoolers as well.

Are you afraid of the dark? Jay Bonansinga's Self Storage is a harrowing, panic-laden read that takes you into the mind of a heroin addict in withdrawal who must care for his young son while
trapped in darkness with no way out. A story of love and sacrifice that takes place in a self-storage unit that makes the one in Silence of the Lambs look like a picnic.

This original story follows a man (afflicted with drug addiction) over the Christmas holidays when he unexpectedly has his son with him. He swings by a storage locker to pick some things up, they get trapped inside, and so the tense struggle for survival in a dark room with no food or water begins. It's full of metaphor without being pretentious, laced with very creepy horror that ups the ante as it goes along, and stars a very flawed but incredibly honestly depicted main character. I think it's fabulous!

I discovered this author because of The Walking Dead, and this is the first "original" story (not that his TWD novels aren't original, but you know what I mean - not of a pre-existing universe), I've read by him. Loved it!

I really don't know what I thought of Self Storage. I had high hopes but it fell short.
It's part Cujo, part Stranger Things ( upside down). I wanted to love this book but I just didn't.
