It's the apocalypse. Aphrodite has broken up with Ares and this time, she means it. While she claims to have meant it during the Trojan War, this time is different. This time is forever. While nursing his broken heart (like any legit God of War) with drink, battle, and wenching - he wenches the wrong wench. His best friend, Morrigan. This doesn't fit at all with his mantra, "All is fair in love and war." Because it's not fair that his ride or die bro isn't a bro at all, but a curvy, sexy, woman. Now that he's touched her, tasted her, he doesn't know if it's love or war. She's a Goddess of War herself and while this is one campaign she plans to win, happily ever after might just be the spoils.
Saranna De Wylde has always been fascinated by things better left in the dark. She wrote her first story after watching The Exorcist at a slumber party. Since then, she’s published horror, romance and narrative nonfiction. Like all writers, Saranna has held a variety of jobs, from operations supervisor for an airline, to an assistant for a call girl, to a corrections officer. But like Hemingway said, “Once writing has become your major vice and greatest pleasure, only death can stop it.” So she traded in her cuffs for a full-time keyboard. She loves to hear from her readers.
Saranna writes nonfiction under the name Sara Lunsford. Her memoir about her time as a corrections officer called Sweet Hell on Fire releases Nov 1 from Sourcebooks.
Note: This is #3. I haven't read the first two (yet). Imagine all the gods and goddesses living together in their own suburbs, gossiping in hair salons, having affairs and drinking mede (or ambrosia). In this book, Ares has just lost his girlfriend, again, and this time it is final. He doesn't know how to handle himself and so misbehaves like a god would do. He's best friends with Morrighan (Morri), so in this book he's hanging out with her a lot, watching movies and eating pizza.
This book was a joy to read. The characters have good chemistry, good banter and go off to do all kinds of weird things, and by reading you just know the writer actually knows a thing or two (or a lot!) about the stories of the gods, and not just the greek ones. I have decided I'll go back to part one and read all of these. They're lighthearted and fun.
Finally finished this trilogy! I love the humor in these ones, though I think I prefer having more than one couple at the helm. These have a silly charm that doesn't really make for a very serious novel to stand on its own.
I still loved it, but I did miss the added drama and hilarity of having multiple couples. I understand why though and I loved Morri and Ares as a couple.
This is the first in this particular series that I have read but it didn't make it hard to fall in with the storyline so far.
Ares is on another break from his millennium spanning relationship with Aphrodite. They may have children together but they have never gelled together the way gods/goddesses in love should do. He once again turns to his best friend, Morrigan, to get him out of his funk.
Morri has had just about enough of the yo yo dating between these two gods. She's sick of being his shoulder to cry on. Why can't he just go and work it off on some unsuspecting female or 20 like he usually does? Why does the thought of him on the roubound with some floozy upset her so much? Sure she's had really weird feelings about him for a while but he's her best friend. He;s the one she plays video games with, strategises with. She doesn't want him - does she???
But when the tension between them snaps will it be forever love or will she go sailing off into the sunset with his nicer guy brother Poseidon? Will a nasty ex of Morri get in the way? Will her pet raven ever give Ares the respect he believes he's due?!?!?!
i loved this book. I', a big classical history buff and this just tickled my funny bone. The myths and legends of Greece are full of drama just like this and I loved the whole irreverence of the book. Ares is the man you'd really love to hate but secretly crush on. Morri is the girl next door who you root for. One of my favourite scenes wasn't even a love scene - let's just say girls dishing the dirt in the gods version beauty salon! Classic! Fabulous story!
To be fair, I didn't read the first book (only the passages between Hades and Hera and boy those two are hot). I however read the second one and liked it so-so, except for the passages with Aphrodite, that I really enjoyed. I loved greek mythology growing up, but I never appreciated Aphrodite. However, Mrs DeWylve makes her anew and I really like this version of her. So when I started this one, it was only with the hope to read more about her. I didn't give a damn about Ares and couldn't care less about what happened to him. And yet... well Mrs DeWylve made a really good job of turning the character upside down and make us - and himself - realize Ares isn't a total douche. I wouldn't go as far as to say he's a sweetheart (unlike his brother Poseidon, who's totally cute... but not as cute as my favorite character, the Kraken, totally awwwww-worthy even if he only have a few scenes in the book), but he has his moments. And Morrigan was both badass and touching in her not-so-well-hidden-insecurities. My only regret is that Aphrodite didn't get her happily ever after. But I certainly will read the next book hoping it will do the trick !
This is the third book in Ms. DeWylde’s Desperate Housewives series. It happens to be the first in the series I have read despite purchasing the first two. I felt that this really worked as a stand-alone and I didn’t feel lost despite not reading the first two in the series. This book had me laughing out loud. I love the interaction between Ares and Morrigan and the inter-pantheon relations a twist on the classic best friends to lover’s story. Ares and Aphrodite have broken up, yet again, and Morrigan is, has always been, there for him. What a hilarious ride and original take on classic mythology. I can’t wait to delve into the first two books of the series. Think Desperate Housewives meets Hercules or Xenia Warrior Princess or Atlantis. Great twists, funny dialogue, and expert subplots with future foreshadowing (at least I hope so!).
I have been a fan of the Housewives since the beginning. This book completely surprised me. I didn't expect it to be as deep as it was, didn't expect it to have so much feeling and emotion. In previous installments Ares hadn't been portrayed as being particularly "deep" so I just expected a good book, I mean seriously, Saranna DeWylde can't write a bad book, but I was completely blown away by Ares in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the depth of his character, the emotional struggles that he had to overcome, it was just so emotional to watch him grow and become a better man that he ever thought he would be able to. I think this has become my favorite of this series but I can't wait for more!
Saranna once again brings the old gods to life with her own personal brand of spin, love, and sexiness. Area's bff cross-pantheon relationship with The Morrigan is inspired! And if you enjoy irreverent reinvention of the myths you love, you won't want to miss this installment, or the rest of this series!
I have to admit I kind of fell in love with Poseidon, there, along the way. I wish we'd gotten a little more of him, but hopefully this is a tease for something more for his story down the line!
This was my first foray into the Desperate Housewives of Olympus world and what a way to start! Snappy one liners had me chuckling from page 1. I loved the dynamic between Morrie and Ares. And like Morrie, I often wanted to punch Ares in the dick. But he redeemed himself in a big way! Great blend of Greek mythology. I need to start back from the beginning and add the rest of this wonderful series to my read list. Definitely recommend!
This is one of the all time best friends to lovers fantasy I've ever read. I love both main characters and their relationship is so relatable and so heartbreaking and so funny and romantic and great! I adored the story and the side characters too, it was once again a great read. Why not 5 stars then? Because I am German and the word nazi shouldn't be bandied about ever. Especially not as a funny thing. But the story was great and I can't wait to read more of this series!
Desperate Housewives meets the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus on Ambrosia Lane with sexy Aries and Morrigan getting together for a roll in the sheets after Aphrodite brakes it off with Aries once and for all.
I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. This is book 3 of the series Ambrosia Lane by the author. This is a great series and I need to read the other books in it.
This is book three in the ambrosia lane series. This one was different from the others because we see Ares and just Morrigan's story. While, the others had several over laying stories and characters. I did enjoy this story and getting to read about Ares overcoming all of his issues. I like the HEA and I definitely cannot wait for more.
