For the past two years, Cade MacDonald and Gemma Davies have been forced to hide their illicit affair from the Other world, where mating with a species different to your own defies every law and mandate of Society. Considered an indefensible act, it is punishable by banishment from their community, or even worse, by death. However, Cade and Gemma experience a bond few ever do, wolf and tiger connecting deeply and irrevocably. Against all odds, their relationship flourishes and solidifies despite the difficulties.
Yet now, they suddenly find themselves faced with obstacles and danger they could never have imagined. Not only is their relationship and place in Society at stake, but their lives—as well as those close to them—are at risk. Their enemies are many, and the battles they need to overcome seemingly insurmountable. Will they be able to defeat their adversaries, and more importantly, will their love manage to prevail above all else?
My name is Mason Sabre. I have been writing since I was a small child and discovered I could have a million adventures at the stroke of my pencil (I wasn't allowed to use pen back then). I have written more stories than I could even publish, some of them I wouldn't ever put out, but I have had a blast writing them. I love writing, I love reading. I love to have a fictional adventure. When I am not doing that I am with my children or studying. I have a lifelong love of learning too.
I live in the North of England. It's a little chilly here and a little wet, but it is what I call home and where pretty much all of my stories are based.
*SIGH* This was a fantastic story and continuation of the Society Series. Once I started, I could NOT put it down. There were tears... not going to tell what kind. You will have to experience it for yourself! I have been impatiently waiting for this story and Mr. Sabre did not disappoint. He created a world that I am more than happy to learn more about. If you're wondering about Cade and Gemma, well this story begins with a bang and does not let up. There was no point that I felt like skipping ahead. I read EVERY word!! Oh, I almost forgot to mention the HOT moments...WOW!!! So if you're wondering if you should continue the series (can't imagine why anyone would not) then my recommendations is an unequivocal YES!!!! Thank you Mr. Sabre for the wonderful story. Now hurry up and gives us the next one!!!
Dark Veil picks up the story of Gemma and Cade’s relationship two years after the book Cade. There are very rough spots ahead involving the kidnapping of Cade, Gemma, and Phoenix. We are introduced to two witches and a Fae. We also meet more stray Others, one of them being a Panther named Raven. Once again, Mr. Sabre incorporates many plot twists and turns. We are given glimpses of the action through one character’s eyes and then find out what the other characters are doing simultaneously in the next chapter. This book does contain sex and violence, because the worlds of the Others and Humans are violent worlds. Because this is book three in The Society Series, the ending is a bit of cliffhanger. I especially like that the plot twists come to a culmination that is believable. Thanks again for another suspenseful and action-packed read!
Wow! What an intriguing story it will keep you reading until the very end. The love, heartbreak and passion will make your head reel and your heart split wide open. I will be waiting patient to find out if Cade and Gemma goes on and on. Thank. You Mason Sabre for such a great story!!!!!!!!!!
This series just gets better and better! Mason Sabre has a passion for his writings, you can feel it as you are reading. His attention to every detail no matter how big or small is superb! He has a way that makes you believe that these characters are real, that you are there, watching, feeling, going through what they are, wondering how this story will play out. When an author can grab hold of your heart and has you wrapped up in a story.. these characters.. as though you are seeing through not only their eyes but also the eyes of the writer is purely wondrous. I love getting lost in a book, when the day to day stuff is hard and I just want an escape, when this happens.. you know you have found the perfect book. So I do highly recommend this book..this whole series...take a trek alongside these marvelous characters to a world of Shape Shifters!
I am awed by the depth of feelings Mason evokes in this book. This was another brilliantly written story that you can't out down. I love all the characters so much (maybe extra for Stephen lol). The story as expected pulls you in and keeps you guessing, and I must say at some points it may also have made me want to give the bloody brilliant author a smack for things done to our beloved friends! Waiting impatiently for the next book!!!! I need to know what happens.....
Another Amazing, Gasping, Heart Wrenching, Well Written Story has been given to us by this author to continue the series....
Dark Veil continues from Cade (Book 3 of the Society Series) If you haven't read it yet you should-
Cade has found his mate Gemma.. Gemma is a taby cat and Cade a wolf but, Society laws say they cannot be together. They are put through more situations than any couple in love should. It will pull you in within the first chapter and you won't want to put it down.
I was gripped from page one! This is one thrilling, emotional story. Dark Veil ticks all the boxes for me; complex characters each with their own tale to tell and beautiful descriptive scenes that allow you to feel you are there personally witnessing the events that unfold. A truly amazing addition to the Society series and I can't wait to see what is in store for our beloved characters next!
Another wonderful book in this series! They just keep getting better with each book. This book continues with Cade & Gemma's story. Believe me, you don't want to miss reading this book/series. I highly recommend it. Thanks Mason for another action packed book.
Dark Veil is the third book in Mason Sabre's Society series and I have to say that this book exceeded my high expectations.I thought It couldn't get any better....was I ever so wrong! The plot moves along fast with surprising developments. There is definite tension running throughout that you can practically taste
Despite the challenges that Cade and Gemma face, it is undeniable that these two people belong together whatever obstacles are thrown in their path. We also learn there are other players in the game.Romance, action, danger, intrigue, a fascinating world to play around in - this book has it all.
With each book in this series,my hunger to read more keeps growing. Mason Sabre has created this highly imaginative world with fascinating characters, made them all unique and individual, given them their own voices, their own motivations and passions. I have no intention of giving up this series until the final chapter, the very last word, all the chips have fallen and the game is all played out.
Cade and Gemma have been in a secret relationship for two years, but something unexpected happens which will in turn put their forbidden romance at the forefront. Their relationship is not the only thing in jeopardy, but their lives as well. An old enemy surfaces and he wants something they both have. Cade and Gemma need to make a big decision and the wrong one could have terrible ramifications.
The couple went through loads of pain and heartache in this one, but it was great reading it. Mason had me in tears on a few parts and cringing at others. He was able to capture the angst and emotional pain that each character suffered in pivotal moments of the story and this made it a fantastic read
It was also nice to see Phoenix older and get introduced to some new characters, one of whom I suspect may have a bigger part in Phoenix's book. All and all, really good story and I cannot wait for the next book
Mason has done it again, another fantastic addition to this Shifter Series. From the very first chapter you’re gripped; Mason certainly knows how to make an opening statement!!
This book is a real crowd pleaser; there’s romance aplenty as Cade & Gemma continue with their illicit affair - drama and suspense as the DSA are called in to solve mysterious deaths - torture and dismemberment for all gore thirsty readers. It’s never dull, totally gripping and just sucks you right in until the very last full stop.
Previous characters return, and there are new faces aplenty to keep the reader entertained, witches, panthers, bears and more, they are all here and their stories are totally believable. You will fall in love with these characters, it’s impossible not to.
Dark Veil and the entire Society Series is enchanting, enticing, totally enthralling. I absolutely LOVE IT.
Mason did a phenomenal job continuing the story of Cade, Steven, Phoenix and Gemma. We got to see the evil characters again and one that surprised me is Malcolm there is just something about him that makes you think hmmmmm what is this guys story..... There is so much that I want to say but won't because this is a series and it will give too much away. I love how he brings society into play in that even though this is a paranormal it is so applicable with today in how so many follow the "rules" of society and there are the rebels that fight against and stand up for what is right. Looking forward to the continuation of this series with Hidden LOL already pre-ordered it! Well done Mr. Sabre!!
Dark Veil is book 3 in The Society Series, it definitely deserves more than 5 stars, It continues the story of Cade and Gemma and their forbidden Love, we still get pleanty of Phoenix, and also a lot more of Gemma's brother and Cade's best friend Stephen. This series is getting better and better, it has everything you need in a shifter series and more, much more. The story is expertly written, it pulls you in right from the start, right up until the last page, I couldn't put it down. I am really excited for the next book Hidden. Mason keep them coming, I can't wait to see what you come up with next for our favourite shifters.
In a world that has many taking on the paranormal/shifter storyline this series stands out from the rest. Written in such a way that as the reader you have no choice but to be entranced by the words. A tale that continues to be woven around characters we have come to love and care for some new faces make an appearance. If you love a story that takes you on an emotional journey with depth and written with pure heart than this is definitely one series you can't pass up. If you have enjoyed the others prior you will not be let down with this continuation. If you haven't clicked you need to it might be the best in the series so far. Now Mr. Sabre if you could just give me more of the words.
This is such an amazing series. It just keeps getting better and better. It's full of action and has plenty of plot twists and turns. The emotions you feel while reading these books are incredible. Mason has added a few new characters for us to get to know. Some we will love and some we will love to hate. I am completely invested in these characters. Mason has a way of bringing them to life. I can't wait to see what's in store for our favorite shifters in the next Society novel. Please Mason, don't keep us waiting too long.
HEARTWARMING. IT'S A REFRESHING CHANGE TO READ AN ACTION-DETECTIVE-SHIFTER-ROMANCE NOVEL WRITTEN FROM A MALE PERSPECTIVE. I've been reading far too many of the female variety, so this was an interesting change of pace. Though not intensely romantic, it had moments of passion, loyalty, faithfulness and most importantly friendship. The pseudo father-son bond between Cade and Phoenix was what truly captivated and convinced me to stay.
THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON CADE (book 1) and DARK VEIL (book 2).
I'll be frank, crime solving slash romance genre has never been my cuppa tea, but something about this story intrigued me.
CADE was an amazing character albeit, a little too good to be true, but I loved how loyal, protective and kind-hearted he was. Selfless, for a shifter. I could have used a better introduction in the beginning to build a closer rep with the characters but OKAY, we're just going to jump right into it. While Cade fights his taboo attraction to his BFF's sister, he stumbles upon a bitten human boy who like a bloodsucking thirsty vampire on a roll, is going to either die or go into a monstrous frenzy, except he's turning into a wolf - one who has killed another human boy. Needless to say, the authorities want him dead.
Despite knowing he was breaking the rules, Cade decided to save and protect Phoenix/Eric instead, helping the boy through his transition and etc. Cutest moments ever, it was truly heartwarming to see Cade slide into his role as protector - not that he wasn't one before. That's just who Cade is. A lover and a fighter.
STEPHEN the Tiger BFF was great too, playing an important role in not only as the best friend, but along the way he helps Phoenix to be in control of his wolf. Stephen's a complex character and I won't lie to say I wonder what kind of mate he'll ever get. He's also like a buffer or blocker between Cade and Gemma (Stephen's sister).
GEMMA was okay, stereotypical beautiful redhead with a heart the size of Texas. Gemma was already in love with Cade - they both were. The only taboo was that as two different shifters (wolf and tiger) they aren't allowed to mate or be together. It was a death sentence. My only complain is that Gemma pretty much danced along with Cade's tune and I can't say I was happy with her in Book 2, although she did pull through later.
OVERALL this was new to me; very different from the erotica genre I pursue, nevertheless it had a steady plot and characters that begged me to stay, and I couldn't put it down. This is a personal preference but had it been more romance-centric, I would have rated this higher. But it's good, so don't mind me. Note that each book does sort of end in a HFN cliffhanger, so it depends if you're interested enough to pick up the next book.
“I’ve fucked everything up, haven’t I?” Stephen’s lips curled into a small smile “A little bit, but life is boring without the shit we throw in it.”
Dark Veil by Mason Sabre
2.75/5.0 Review of first book~Sequel Notes~ •The Story continues off two years after the conclusion of the first book. The plot follows the same(ish) structure, as in dividing into two parts, one following the illicit romance of course. •Was disappointed by the story compared to the first book for 2 main reasons: •First is that the story really pushed Gemma into the damsel in destress role, which really undermined her character in my opinion. I just feel like she is better than that. There were multiple opportunities to prove that statement wrong throughout the encounters but none of them were really taken. •Second was that the vast majority of the story took place with one, two or three different POV characters in some sort of confinement/position where they were held against their will. I will freely admit that it is a slight pet peeve of mine. Usually I can stand it but this was far too much, it grounded the pace to a crawl and refused the plot any progression. Since this was the main plot device, I would have to clarify that I thought the plot was indeed bad. •The overall dynamic with the ‘Others’ culture did make me think about the mindset of culture change. Not only in fantasy it is amazing to think about cultures around the world that are so different than the one that we (as individuals) lived in. •There were a couple of new faces that were introduced namely raven and Anika. Loved both those characters in the small but important role that they played. •I know the whole forbidden love thing has a wide appeal, but I get tired of it so fast. I feel bad because I feel like I am the only one. I do want to note this has nothing to do with my rating BUT may have something to do with the possibility of not reading the series further. I don’t know. The whole I want to be with him/her but I don’t want to be shunned by my parents/society feels too high school to me. This does touch back to my culture observation and was prompted the reflection, so for that I am grateful at least.
~Final Thoughts~ Cast is still great, and with even a little depth added to characters like Phoenix, some of them really shined. Unfortunately that shine was dulled by a slow pace and character ruining plot devises. They just deserved so much better, Gemma in particular.
Oh my gosh I didn't even realize this was a very long book. I just couldn't put it down. Another amazing book in the Society series. The Dark Veil starts two years after Cade took Phoenix in after finding him half dead and beaten in the woods. Cade (wolf) and Gemme's (tiger) forbidden relationship takes the on a journey that is freaking unbelievable. Which includes battles and enemies that the need to overcome that seems insurmountable. Lots of new characters are introduced, witches, fae, panther more tigers, foxes, bears and wolves. Gemme's best friend Shelley appears in this book. She can tell her everything. I love their relationship. And the kidnapping, Cade, Gemme, and Phoenix was the worst horrifying part of the book. But a new characters comes to the book to help save them, Raven (black panther) with Stephen. Their is so many twist and turns that are mind blowing. Wow the book is incredible written imaginative, creative and detailed. You just can't stop reading!!!
"Humans - such sick and disgusting creatures". I have to agree with the assessment. I never hated humans more than I do in this book. I love how Cade, Gemme, Stephen and Phoenix are linked together on physic lever and the nothing but love between them. My heart was pounding throughout this book. What an incredible job Mason Sabre with this series.
I haven't finished the book so I won't give it a grade. what stops me is the construction of the world in which they live. I consider it a little childish with some Hitlerist system rules. I felt from the first book that the writing style was strange, I couldn't connect with the female character and now I understand why. in conclusion, it's not for me, I'm sorry. I've been wanting to read a romantic book written by a man for a long time, but it seems to me that it over-romanticizes certain aspects and is incredibly rigid in others. I'm sure it's written with the target audience "woman", but it doesn't appeal to me.
This is the third book in the Society Series and OMG i couldn't put it down as i became drawn into this paranormal world of Humans and Others. Dark Veil is an incredibly well written book that is so detailed, creative and imaginative that i really do not even know what to say to do it the justice it deserves other than its an absolute must read book and series and worthy of every one of the 5 stars ive given. I'm now not so patiently waiting for the next book and it cant come soon enough. Congratulations Mason Sabre on this amazing series.
OMG! I love reading Mason Sabre books. This is the third book in The Society series. This is the next book about Cade and Emma. Once you start reading this series, it takes you over and you can't put it down! I read it instead of sleeping. Mason Sabre has done it again! This book takes place 2 years later after Cade story. Cade and Gemma are meant for each other, but their love is so forbidden. I can not wait to see what will happen next in this series. Keep up the amazing work Mason! I HIGHLY recommend reading this series!
Dark Veil is a fast-paced, thrill ride. Magnificently written, the story takes you deep into world where laws must be followed, Humans rule, and love may not conquer all. Dark Veil continues Cade and Gemma's illegal love affair. But they have bigger secrets now--Gemma is pregnant. If anyone were to find out about the baby they would face execution. Heartbreaking and tender--if you are a fan of paranormal romance or urban fantasy, you'll love this book. Definitely a five-star read.
I'm done with this series. Instead of continuing the interesting story of the characters from book one, the plot is literally kidnapped by some evil people. It is so violent and tense that I had to skim to get to the resolution. Typos: see notes. Quote marks are inconsistent. Either use the British style “. or American ,” not both. The author used dictation but missed some errors: ‘tick’ instead of ‘tic’ and ‘chord’ for ‘cord.’ A plural wrongly had an apostrophe s.
This book deserves more than the 5 stars I can give it! Dark Veil is the third book in the Society Series and I can say I am so completely hooked on this series! Mason Sabre’s creative storytelling puts you right there ~ going through every emotional, nail biting, hair raising event that occurs. You can’t help but be drawn into it all... I mean you actually feel.... that’s the sign of exceptional talent in writing. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Truly top notch👌~ Angie❤️
Wow so much going on in this book, fast paced and action packed! As soon as you start it, your at the end going nooooo! Time just wooshes by reading this. A very enjoyable read! As in true Sabre style your there nibbling your nails, sweating about whats going to happen next, whilst the tension ramps up. This book builds on to the society stories nicely and although we meet old characters we also meet some interesting new one's. A 5 star read!
This was definitely an improvement from book 1! I mar first I thought really a baby? But it worked and it was better written and paced out really well. Humans really are an awful species! Without giving much away I’m really hoping they can get away! Also loving the new characters and the introduction of witches!
An exciting, nerve wrecking and heartbreaking but soul warming story in Mason’s world of Others. This novel continues the story of Cade and Gemma. Extremely well written and, as far as I’m concerned a must-read !
Oh, how I both love and hate cliffhangers. I'm so looking forward to the next book. I have to know what happens. And although I know it will be worthwhile, it's still frustrating. So I shall go see if new races of shifters prevail or will the Society have their way.
