Detective Teigan St. Claire, formerly of the Crimes Against Children unit, receives a phone call from an old friend. "My cousin is missing, and the cops aren't doing a thing about it. Can you look into it?"
When she does, the leads go firmly down the rabbit hole, landing in the office of the alluring and exceedingly dangerous Evaline Marsh. Ms. Marsh is far more than she appears, and she has a proposition for Detective St. Claire.
"If you want answers, you will play my game."
This is a novel of 80,000 words.
-- About Games People Play --
This was actually the first of the Games People Play series that I wrote but it has become the second to be published.
My writing frequently shares some common elements. Amongst those elements are the games. The wolves like their games. The idea that grew into Fitting In began with a softball game and the attendant trash talking (but then became something very different). And from time to time, someone writes me and says she enjoys reading the games.
The Games People Play series centers around a simple question.
Do you want to play a game?
Of course, a story about a game might not be interesting in itself, and so the games are an important theme, but they aren't the story itself. This story is about far more than that. It's about morality and casting judgment. It's about coming to conclusions about who people are based on labels. It's about black and white and shades of grey.
A writer by avocation, Robin has a renaissance interest in many areas. A bit of a gypsy, Robin has called a few places home and has traveled widely. A love of the outdoors, animals in general and experimenting with world cuisines, Robin and partner share their home with a menagerie of pets and guests, although sometimes it is difficult to discern who is whom.
I fell for them both right off the bat… I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this book because I didn’t like the first one. Then I read this was the first one thought up but not the first one written for the public. I looked at the page count and knew this would be a winner of sorts.
One thing that I admire about RR’s writing is that the characters stay true to their main cores. Teigan and Evaline stayed the same throughout while the bond between them grew. Evaline had so much history of living life and Teigan did not. The author told me that Teigan and Beth loved one another and Teigan still loved Beth. I didn’t feel that love. But I did feel the spark that caught and was constantly growing between Evaline and Teigan. They couldn’t leave one another alone after they initially met.
The only thing I didn’t really care for was the scenes where Teigan danced and all the time spent on it. I grew very bored and didn’t see the point except to see how easily a contract can be broken if one isn’t careful.
When a crazy plot twist was revealed, I didn’t see that coming, although I never knew what she was. But it also made the relationship even more puzzling. How in the world could they have been in love? What Beth did never say well with me and how that love and trust alarmist cost Teigan more than she could ever afford to lose. I would never and could never forgive her.
At the end, I was surprised and not shocked. Teigan had no ill feelings for the wrong that happened against and the friendship continued to blossom. But I am so upset at how this book ended. I had too much invested on the friendship. The admission at the end made it even worse to end it here. What the hell happened? Where is Teigan? Why Teigan?
🌈THRILLING🌈 Books # 1 and # 2 ! Were for me just that thrilling ! They were ( On The Edge Of Your Seat Kind Of Entertainment !💞 I'm very anxious to begin #3 ! 😘
This has the best characters outside of the fox books. I like all of Robin's books, but this book opens up what could be a very interesting world. There's so many places this could go. I hope there are many sequels to come, and would love to see Teigan solving crimes with the assistance of her 'super' friends.
This might be the best book by this author. I thought it was fantastic. I highly recommend reading this. I cannot wait until the next book is published
