His life is in ruins; his innocence has been torn apart. Dare returns to his own world ashamed and alone.
Desperate for a solution to end the war that has devastated his world and shattered his dreams, Dare is prepared to use the power of the gods if it means he can avenge his lover's death. But he is not as alone as he might have thought.
Dare soon finds out the war isn’t as clear-cut as he had assumed, and he can't get vengeance if he can't tell who his enemies are. He learns to question everything he thought he knew. As his power grows, he leaves his childhood firmly behind, and discovers friendship and freedom can be found in the most unlikely places.
Dare's travels take him through his own world and beyond, and his feelings for the mysterious man intent on saving his soul grow stronger with each sunrise. He comes to realise love truly has no limits and no boundaries: not even the grave itself.

(Originally reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews with a copy provided by the author / publisher for an honest review.)

Before I started this book, I went back and re-read both Into The Woods (Book 1) and The Call of the Dark (Book 2). Not because I had to in order to pick up this book, but because I just wanted to because I liked them so much. I’m glad I did, the re-read just made me realize all over again how well this lady can write. This new book, ShadowFae (Book 3), is no exception. I really enjoyed it. I liked how the author picked up the story twenty years after the close of book two and by doing so was able to pick someone from the next generation to be the new main character. That isn’t to say that we don’t have the characters from the previous books! Gods are immortal, and elves are near enough to immortal to be around for centuries or more…

The new main character, as you can see from the blurb is Dare. Dare is the son of Odelia and Khari, but by default since Khari and Eden are the two halves of Orien, Dare is actually the son of all three. Dare has been raised by his mother, and reads as kind of a spoiled young man who is used to getting his own way. I really liked Dare once I got to know him, and his surprising love interest in the book…who came from left field, I think I liked even more. No spoilers on that. But I had my reasons…you can ask me why AFTER you read the book!

This volume is as full of adventure as the previous two. The war between the humans and elves is still going on. Vast swathes of the human world are uninhabitable, due to incursions from the bad elves who’ve been wiping out the humans since the middle of book two. Dare and some familiar faces from the previous books will be thrust into the middle of the war, as you would expect, but there will be some twists along the way.

The only part of the book I didn’t like was somewhere around 70% of the way through the book. No spoilers, but something happens to a character that I really liked…and it kind of made me grumpy. Not grumpy enough to not finish the book of course!

Enough said. If you’ve read the first two books, you will definitely want to read this one. If you haven’t read them, and you like m/m fantasy, then what are you waiting for? I also reviewed the first two books as a Series Review on Love Bytes, and they are somewhere here on Goodreads under the Love Bytes reviews.

I highly recommend this book and this series. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

I don't usually do reviews, but felt I should explain the one star. I didn't like Dare. Kinda hated him really. He just came off as a spoiled, selfish brat to me. And that didn't change through the progress of the story. Which is a big problem for the hero of the story. Also, the forgiveness shown in this book for deeds done in and revealed in the previous books, just, no. The author did a great job making me despise that character, and to then turn around and expect me to like them now? The reasons I should just weren't good enough for me. Which of course meant I hated the ending so, yeah, not a happy camper.

OK so this is an amazing fantasy series, because it revolves around elves and the fae, having it set 20 years on from the last book doesn't make too much of a difference in most aspects. It was a great way to bring their kids into it when their parents were the same age in the first books though. It's not as good as the first two books either but it is very important because it's setting up a major smackdown. I also found it was way too long, and I never say that about any book. To me this felt like it was only because it kept dredging up old grudges that went around in needless circles. OK YES, Eden has severe PTSD but it did not need to be regurgitated in almost every chapter. Another thing that probably should have been explained quickly is why both Khari and Gray weren't suffering from it as severely anymore because of what Eden did for them. It was like Eden had become a neurotic and helpless damsel in distress and for me that just didn't work, it didn't fit his character. Then the actual main MC of this book is Dare, who is Eden and Khari's son who is born by Odelia or Gaia and he was so annoying I wanted to punch him thru the book. This is a lot more complicated than I'm making it sound but I found the MC of this book the most frustrating and pathetic character, let alone the actual MC. Yes I hate writing harsh reviews.

I loved this book

When I finished book two of Searching for Eden I thought what a lose the story had ended. Image my surprise when book three came out. This story takes place twenty years later, Dare son of Khari, Eden and Odilia is a grown conflicted young man, and the war that had begun in book two has raged on. The is a bit of angst and drama in this book but there is a beautiful love story as well. Can't wait for the next installment.

While I really enjoyed this book and found it to be a worthy successor to the first two Searching for Eden books, I did have a couple of small quibbles.
Primarily, Dare isn't that likable. The author does a great job exposing his flaws by having it discussed openly by his friends and family, it doesn't change the fact that your hero is more often than not acting like a spoiled, immature brat. So while I give Ms. Kerridge kudos for laying the foundation of Dare's personality and growth, it sometimes makes it difficult to read through chapters where he is acting out particularly near the conclusion when he finally understands what Eden has been dealing with throughout the reappearance of a certain character. Who that it is isn't really a surprise but trying not to spoil just in case.
To lesser extent, the jump in time between books #2 and #3 is very jarring, especially given that there seemed to be a rich background of material that came up in both human and far stories for exploration.
But those are both small quibbles, getting to see "old friends" again, the continued growth of the the separate but converging worlds as well as the introduction of a new enemy lead to a several nights of staying up too late enjoying the world Kerridge has created. I cannot wait to see where it goes from here!
