Fawn is a powerful witch who didn’t even know magic existed.

Caleb is a fallen angel stuck in hell until he is tasked with seducing the witch Fawn and bring her to the dark side. This should be easy since that was his forte for centuries. But the connection between himself and his assignment makes Caleb rethink his path.

From there you have danger, romance and ultimately a betrayal that threatens to tear them apart forever.

I enjoyed the story but it was missing that character connection that would provide that spark to keep you riveted. Some parts I loved and some parts just didn’t work. I mostly found Fawn a mass of contradictions and could not easily justify such apposing personality traits. In the end, I didn’t buy into the romance.

I received this ARC copy of The Belgrave Legacy from Zara Hoffman in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication October 31, 2016.

This was a very quick read but the transition between certain scenes left out a chunk of time that didnt feel completely natural. Even with the action some parts were a little dull and I had to push myself to keep reading. The magic was fun but overall I feel like the story was missing that wow factor. It felt like the typical urban fantasy with witches, angels, and other supernatural beings. I also noticed a couple grammatical errors but nothing major. Its possible my review copy wasnt fully edited.

The worlds most powerful witch is coming of age and she has been prophecized as the one who will save the world. Lucifier makes a wager with God that the worlds most powerful witch can be corrupted and sends a dark angel to seduce her. I didnt really feel the threat of the main character Fawn having to save the world. The hunters posed a threat to her loved ones but I didnt feel that intensity of being in real danger since she can transport herself anywhere.

For some all powerful witch the main character decisions were realistic but what are the chances she was born on Halloween. Shes strong but not invicible and shes not perfect at controlling her magic. Shes self sacrificing and cares deeply for her family and friends.I also thought Fawns best friend Ivy was awesome. I love reading about strong female friendships and this book had a great one. I really appreciated the no slut shamming approach the author portrayed.

I also appreciated the importance of family. Her best friend and her family werent forgotten once she fell in love. It was stupid for them to separate when they could be taken hostage and used against her. I also dont understand why the charm was necessary if they already have an emotional twin bond, unless their mother also has a charm but that was never mentionned. There was also some other things that confused me but I wont mention them to avoid spoilers.

The romance plays a huge part in the story and I wasnt invested in it as much as I would have liked. Although I didnt mind the love interest and he grew on me more and more as the story went on. Even though he was sent to seduce and betray her Caleb does redeem himself. No ones perfect. He wasnt too controlling which is usually my main issue with love interests. Caleb let her make her own choices and protected her with out being controlling. You could tell he really cared about her.

A witch who is reluctant to use her magic. A dark angel who struggles between his growing attraction towards her and fulfilling the mission he was give. What could possibly go wrong? This book takes you on a wild journey of navigating your college years, but with the looming threat of the devil hanging over your head. It's a fast paced tale that keeps the readers guessing as to how Fawn will get herself out of this mess, and if she'll really get her happily ever after. This is the first book I read by this author and I was not disappointed. Definitely looking forward to reading book two of this amazing trilogy.

I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I could not finish this book. I wanted to. In fact, I made it further into this book than I normally do when I DNF. Chapter 19. 67% into the story. Let me explain what happened.

This book started off slow. There were tedious bits of over explanation of things the main character probably should have already known before the start of the story. The author had a habit of introducing new things into the story by simply dropping them in rather than leading up to the reveals or intertwining bits of information slowly throughout the plot. This lead to several jarring moments where I had to sit back and readjust my world view of the book before continuing on.

The writing itself was for the most part, technically correct. There were a few missing words and weirdly structured sentences, but nothing I couldn't have pushed past. It was simply the way that information was imparted to the reader and the dramatic way the characters acted within the narrative that made it painful to follow along at times. It lacked a sense of depth to the worldbuilding and storytelling.

As the story progressed, I worked my way past these speedbumps. I found that I quite liked the characters and the romance between the main couple (even though their romance sped along exceedingly fast). The story seemed to be leading up to a big moment, as stories do, and that moment came - and things were resolved. They beat the bad guy in a manner of speaking. The romance hit a rough patch - but was working towards being resolved... everything was shaping up for the end of the book--and I thought, "that wasn't so bad."... and then I looked at my progress in the book, and I was only halfway through.

It felt strange to hit a section of the book that seemed to be "the end". It sure felt like The End... but then it didn't happen. The story kept going, skipping large amounts of time. Events were happening with no lead-up, again just being dropped into the story. There was a training montage... and It got to where I was 67% in the book and sat back and wondered... when is this going to end? I was bored, and not a lot was happening. It felt like the book had completed and then there was this really long, really tedious epilog to go through.. that just happened to take up half the story. So, I put it down.

I didn't hate the book. I don't even think it was a bad book. The cover is gorgeous. The title was fitting and mysterious. The characters were likable... the plot was really interesting... but the execution fell flat--and that's all there is to it. There are going to be a lot of people out there that enjoy this book more than I did... and that's great. I just didn't have the patience to sit through another 33% of the book when it already felt like the book had ended, and what I'd already read was only so-so on the execution.

Ready for some magic?

Fawn is a witch. And a powerful one, at that. In fact, according to an ancient prophecy, Fawn's magic could be the strongest to ever exist and she could play an important role in the future of the world as she knows it. But that doesn't mean that she wants to go along with destiny's plan for her.

Caleb lives in Hell. No, literally. He is a dark angel who is indebted to Lucifer for eternity. But after Lucifer strikes a bargain and makes a bet with the holy man, himself, Caleb has an opportunity to finally escape Lucifer's evil clutches and find peace with his deceased family.

So what does Caleb have to do to earn his freedom? He has to seduce and corrupt Fawn, turning her and her magic over to the evil side. Should be an easy task, considering ruining women has been his specialty for centuries. But he finds that his new charge is not quite as easy to persuade. Even worse, he discovers that he might prefer to care for her, instead.

Thus begins a roller coaster ride of magic, romance, danger, secrecy, and betrayal. Secrets cannot stay hidden forever and no one can escape fate, no matter how hard they try.

I liked the overall plot of the book. The deal between God and Lucifer and their constant interference was entertaining. I thought the secondary characters were interesting enough to enhance the story without weighing it down. The pacing was pretty good and the magic and fantasy elements were adequate for a fantasy/paranormal story that I typically read.

But I did have a few issues with the book. I wish there were more description of the characters and surroundings. I also found Fawn to be an inconsistent character, untrusting of Caleb one moment and interested romantically the next. The 'I love yous' came way too early, even for a YA novel, at barely a third of the way through the book.

Then when things turn sour, Fawn works much harder to avoid and refuse Caleb than she ever did to get to know or show affection toward him. Too much angst and not enough passion between them. Perhaps, a few more sweeter and more romantic moments for our couple would enhance the believability.

In closing...
A good read with a creative plot and likable characters. 3.5 suns!

Great book, although I did find the ending a little rushed. It would be a great starter for series too. Worth the time to consume

I had mixed feelings about this book. I really liked some parts of it and others I didn't. I also alternated between being annoyed by the main character Fawn and really liking her. I found that the first half of the book was really enjoyable and fast-paced while the second half seemed to drag on a bit. I don't really think that Fawn and Caleb's trip to gather allies with the Salem witches and other covens of witches was really necessary as in the final battle they aren't even needed I thin if this part was cut out and if there was less time deliberating who would sacrifice themselves to restore Fawn's magic, the book would have had a much better pace without detracting from the overall plot. Overall this was a good book, especially the first half however at times it did get slightly boring.

A Lucifer vs God story you'd never expect, yet is highly satisfying.

What do witches, werewolves, vampires, Lucifer and God all have in common? They are all characters that are woven together beautifully in The Belgrave Legacy. While reading I felt drawn into Caleb & Fawn's world. Yeah, I know. You're thinking with a witch involved why can't she just magic her way out of trouble. Well, you can't bibbidy-bobbidy-boo yourself out of this dilemma no matter how hard you try. There are unexpected twists around every corner. The Belgrave Legacy is a fantastic and quick read. I can't wait to read more from this author.

DNF at 40%. The writing is terrible, and conversations were awkward and didn't sound realistic. The story was silly, because things like a twin bond, having a guy say he's your guardian and believing him, and then dating him don't make any sense. The main character is in college but reads like a preteen. I definitely don't recommend it.

So, during PaperFury’s first Beautiful Books link-up for this year (more on that here and here if you’re interested!), I perused some of the authors linking up for NaNoWriMo. Among them was Zara Hoffman, writing the ever-intriguing Unmoored, spin-off to her first novel The Belgrave Legacy. After going in and reading about her book, I was quite interested in it!

I really enjoyed this book, the story of fallen angel Caleb sent to romance and seduce Fawn so he can finally get out of Hell and see his family in Heaven. Fawn is a very powerful witch prophesied to save the world. I enjoyed the storyline even though there were a few hiccups and I really liked the characters. You have God, The Devil, witches fallen angels, demons, romance, and some action to boot, what more could you want?!?!?!

It took me a bit to read this book because you need to devote time and no distractions. I didn't feel hooked in but I felt like Fawn was well written she was more than people saw for and that's how I see this book. people are too quick to judge without taking every effort to stop and truly read into this gem and see the beauty between the pages. thank you for writing this.

What happens when a witch doesn't like to use her magic meets a dark angel reluctant to do the job he's indebted to Lucifer to do? You get an attraction that should not be.
If you like academy style books with good supporting characters and dont might a slightly annoying fmc read or listen to this one. There was a good story, good chemistry, and some funny spots that made it enjoyable.

*Thanks to the publisher who gave me the chance to review this book via Netgalley.*

Honestly speaking I don’t know what to rate this book or how to review it. I don’t even know where to start. Maybe on first impression? Right.

First impression of this book is it will be a good book. It was good in the beginning while I’m still learning the characters and the flow of the story. It was smooth sailing and good. It wasn’t until around 20% of the book that I’m starting to get confused.

The story is way too fast. Everything in the book happened really really fast. That moment where the book was still introducing Fawn and Caleb and then the next minute they were teacher and student learning magic together and then another minute they were in love and then the next betrayal and Fawn is in hell and everything just keeps going messy? (I meant in the story) Like seriously. It was so fast that I thought I’m almost at the end but I was actually just in the middle of the first 50% of the book.

The narration is fine. I didn’t had a hard time imagining the story inside my head because it’s somehow a little detailed narration but not totally detailed. Although, there’s only one tiny problem. My English Professor once said that you cannot appreciate a song without its melody because the melody brings out the emotions and the feelings. That’s the case in Belgrave Legacy. It has lyrics and thoughts but it doesn’t have emotions. I didn’t feel a thing while reading this book. I didn’t even felt the love Fawn and Caleb have for each other. Even though Fawn was said to be mad towards the devil, I didn’t felt it that much. It was like I was just reading a textbook from our university –plain.

Not to mention the climax part of the story. Was that really how they fought their battle? From the book, it was described like it was the battle of the century, the chosen girl fighting the devil Lucifer. But why did it ended way too soon and way too easy? It’s like I’ve read the whole battle scene in less than a minute. Even with someone dying and then brought back from the dead right after, it’s still wasn’t enough for me to say that it was a good battle scene. And some of the parts where there are actually big things that got revealed, it feels like they just shrug it off easily. Like, how would you feel if you’ll know that your bestfriend is actually a siren who happens to be your twin brother’s soulmate? Shocking right? How about knowing that your ex-boyfriend is actually a wolf? More shocking right? But Fawn handled it way too easily. Sure she was shocked for like ten seconds and then wouldn’t think about again anymore. I’m not saying that she should really totally shocked but her reaction is somehow lacking for me. I think I’m not using the right words but I hope you all get my point.

And it looks like this book is a fanfiction of a certain series. The Supernatural series. Is it? I feel like it. Like, if Supernatural was put into books and change it into a romance story instead of brotherly love, this would be the outcome. Though instead of guns and holy waters this is spells and magic and witchcraft. I’m a fan of Supernatural so I couldn’t really help but to think that this was based on the series. Maybe if this was written before Supernatural, I would think otherwise.

I’m not saying that this is a bad book. It’s just plain and still needs improving but then who am I to say that, right? I’m just a reviewer and a book blogger not an editor or whatever. But that’s my review. Though if you’re a fan of the Supernatural series or just want to read some romance books which includes witches and angels, this is a perfect book for you.

Don’t let my review ruin your expectations towards the book. We all have different opinions towards same things so I say give this book a try. Maybe you will like it the way I didn’t much.

The Belgrave Legacy puts an interesting slant on the ongoing battle between heaven and hell. Lucifer's fall from heaven is still grating on his nerves and he will resort to any means to defeat his father and take control.

Fawn comes from a long line of witches and she is part of a prophecy which could save the world. She comes into her full power on her sixteenth birthday and is more powerful than she can imagine. However, she is quite content to live a normal life without resorting to using these powers.

Caleb is a dark angel who fell into the trap of making a contract with Lucifer. He is stuck with doing Lucifer's biddings and when Lucifer offers him a chance to have his freedom if he can complete one last assignment, he jumps at the opportunity. Getting out of hell is a blessing.

Fawn is now twenty one and attending college. She meets this enigmatic stranger and although he makes her uncomfortable to begin with, she soon finds herself drawn to him. Caleb is set to seduce Fawn and stop her from fifulling her part of the prophecy but when he meets her, she is different from what he expected. He starts to have feelings which are unfamiliar to him and at the same time he is desperate to meet his end of the bargain with Lucifer. Fawn's life takes a drastic change where she is constantly facing life threatening situations. She starts to trust Caleb, only to find out that he is not who he appears to be and has ulterior motives which could destroy her and her family.

Lucifer doesn't give Fawn any reprieve whatsoever until she is desperate enough to make a bargain with him. This is when Caleb starts to relent and rethink what he really wants but is it too late? Can Fawn forgive his deceitful behaviour?

This Young Adult novel consists of demons, witches, werewolves and relentless hunters of paranormal nature. Fawn is a strong and determined character. Once Caleb decides where his loyalty lies, he proves to be very loving and devoted. Fawn's twin brother, her mother and her best friend are very protective and supportive. The characters and storyline are well portrayed but could have been a little more substantial. All in all it's a beautiful story which I thoroughly enjoyed reading and would recommend to those who like Young Adult Paranormal Romance.

I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

description
Boring, riddled with plots holes and skipping major plot and character development, The Belgrave Legacy was by far not one of the best things I have ever read. In a world of angels and demons, there is one girl who is going to decided whether good or evil will prevail. Fawn is destined to be the most powerful witch ever, and with great power comes great responsibility. Wanting to sway Fawn to his side, Satan sends his best, and that best is Caleb. What he didn't see coming was that Caleb might fall for his target.
This was a badly written in my opinion. There were HUGE plot holes and missing parts of character development. I didn't like ANY of the characters in the novel. I didn't get a chance to. None of them were consistent and well developed. The reader can't get a grasp of them and grow an attachment. Characters aside, looking at the plot, I could not help but be disappointed. There seemed to be entire sections of time that was missing from the story that could have much improved the story and the characters. I also found the relationship between Caleb and Fawn to be weak and, following the trend in the rest of this novel, undeveloped. Overall, I do not recommend The Belgrave Legacy and give it the honest rating of TWO STARS OUT OF FIVE!!!

Fawn and Caleb are wonderfully interesting characters with so much potential and even the plot begs to be loved. Fawn's predicament is original and demands sympathy. She has no idea who she is or what she's capable of. She's an unexpecting target with a big heart and discovers she does have a lot fight. Caleb, on the other hand, is the perfect bad-boy. Caught in service to Lucifer, he's got a very dark past. He's hot, and he's tough, but with Fawn, he might have met his match.

The premise definitely pulled me in, and I wanted to love this book. Very much so. But the writing just didn't grab me. The characters thoughts and past are laid out, opening the door to who they are and what they're thinking, but it never is close enough to let the reader completely in. The events and happenings are described but not experienced. It's as if the reader is kept at a distance from the story and never drawn in.

Still, the plot was interesting enough that I fought to like it. . .which is saying something. . .but no matter the effort, I just couldn't get into it. I'm sure someone else might really fall into Fawn and Caleb's world, but this someone simply wasn't me.

The Belgrave Legacy is about a young women, by the name of Fawn, who is just trying to be a normal college student. Then one day she meets Caleb who pretends to be her Guardian Angel. In reality, Caleb is actually working for Lucifer. Lucifer has made a bet with God that he can corrupt her. Fawn is a very powerful witch; therefore, Lucifer wants her and gives the job of corrupting Fawn to Caleb. In the past, Caleb has been very good at just these types of jobs. Yet, there is a problem with Lucifer’s plan… Caleb is falling for Fawn.

I struggled to finish this book. I really liked the story. Unfortunately, it was not enough to overcome the lack of character depth and descriptive prose I crave. For these reasons, I think this is why I never felt vested with the characters. Fantasy/Paranormal/Sci-Fi are some of my favorite genres to read so I was a little disappointed. On a bright note, a little bit of rework would make for a great read because the story is good.

The Belgrave Legacy weaves a tale of magic and passion in a contemporary setting. Fawn Belgrave is a spirited young woman, born an extremely powerful witch. However, Fawn is content live a normal life, going to college and seeing friends. That is, until she meets the mysterious and handsome Caleb who is more than he seems... Little does she know, as she gets drawn into a tangle of love and betrayal, her choices might decide the future of this world.

This novel may appeal to fans of The Mortal Instruments.

Zara Hoffman shows much potential as an upcoming writer. I would, though, love to see the side characters more fleshed out, and some subplots could have improved the otherwise fairly linear plot. However, on the whole this was an enjoyable read.

I liked the concept of The Belgrave Legacy and at the start Fawn Belgrave, an extraordinary witch learning to use her powers, held my attention. However as the story progressed and the battle between God and Lucifer for her evolved I found myself losing attention in places. While Caleb worked as a love interest and dark angel who was trying to change his path, I wasn't completely convinced about the romance and felt like sometimes the story slowed down too much or jumped ahead without really bringing me along. This author has real potential and I would be interested to see how she grows in future books she writes.
