Paramjeet comes to Pune for higher education all the way from Punjab. Here he meets Lata who also belongs to Punjab. Nandini, younger sister of Lata, is partially paralyzed and needs to regularly visit therapy centre. Lata requests Paramjeet to accompany Nandini to therapy centre.
When Paramjeet begins to take Nandini to the therapy centre, she asks the taxi driver to stop in front of a house and gazed towards that house for bit long. She laughed, cried and sometimes went emotional. Then she also stops by in front of a wrecked house situated little far from the previous house and reacted the same way. This continued for several days.
Gradually Paramjeet realized that there must have been a tragic incidence in Nandini’s life due to which she is suffering from paralysis today. That incidence must be the biggest blow of Nandini’s life.
Hence, Paramjeet decides to delve what has happened in the past so that he could help Nandini overcome her ailment.
Laxman Rao, the author of 30 Hindi books, completed his postgraduation in M.A. (Hindi Literature) from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). He has been awarded by various trusts and organizations.
Also, he was invited to the President House to meet former President of India Smt. Pratibha Patil along with his family on 23 July, 2009.
In addition to his achievements, he has also been invited to many schools, universities, educational institutions, corporate seminars and NGO's as a guest lecturer.
Born to a farmer in a village in the western state of Maharashtra, Laxman Rao left for Delhi in 1975 to fulfill his dream of becoming a writer. He worked as a labour, washed dishes at restaurants and finally managed to open a shop in 1977 to sell paan (betel leaves), beedi (hand-rolled cigarettes) and cigarettes on Vishnu Digamber Marg, near ITO in New Delhi. After a few years, he started selling tea as it was more profitable.
He worked hard to publish his books, but all his meetings with publishers ended in disappointment as nobody was willing to bet their money on a book written by a roadside vendor. Undeterred, he saved up enough to self-publish his first novel in 1979. Turbulent lives, the struggle to rise above grinding poverty and the ordinary pleasures of life are the themes on which Laxman Rao's novels, political essays and plays are based.
His best-selling novel ‘Ramdas’ which was first published in 1992 - explores the complexities of the teacher-student relationship through the story of a young, wayward student from Laxman Rao's village who drowned in a river. The book now in its third edition, has sold more than 4,000 copies till date.
In May 1984, Laxman Rao met the then Prime Minister of India Mrs. Indira Gandhi. She appreciated his work and encouraged him to write more. When Laxman Rao expressed his wish to write a book on her she insisted that the book should be on her work rather than a commentary on her life. Enthused by this meeting, Laxman Rao wrote a play based on the tenure of a Prime Minister titled 'Pradhan Mantri' (Prime Minister) but she was shot dead before Laxman Rao could present it to her.
The tea-selling author has won many awards and also received recognition from former Indian President Mrs. Pratibha Patil.
"His books are doing very well on our site. We are happy that authors like Mr. Laxman Rao have found a platform such as ours to sell his books," a spokesperson for Amazon India told the BBC.
Dansh is my first Hindi read, so it has its own importance. This book was part of my Kindle book for more than a year but I was reluctant to take Hindi books. Last month, I took this book and found it a light read.
Blurb may give you the impact of some serious social topic book, but the story is not that serious. :) A guy from Punjab came to Pune for higher studies. Being a poor family fellow he knew he had to work. He found a part-time job. Through his job, he found a group of money lender guys. He joined them to earn extra money. Through that group, he met a girl. He helped the girl and her family. As usual, they fall in love with each other. And then happily lived after.
Though the book was simple, due to its blurb I was expecting some twist/turn of events. Nothing so extraordinary happened throughout the story. The boy was very lucky; where ever he went he earned money and respect. Read it if you like family drama or would like to improve your Hindi.

Writing style:
I have finished this book in just two sittings. The language is super easy and sometimes reminded me of prolific author Munshi Premchand. The narration is captivating making you flip the pages.
My perception:
What I love about this book is the simplicity. There are very few characters in this book but the author has weaved a story which will make an impact on your soul. Paramjeet is a character who believed in the values, honesty, and sincerity and attached to his motherland. This book not only tells a story but gives an insight of everything which is going in society. The writing skill of the author is very genuine. Sometimes, I felt that I am reading a classic book. This book is a great combination of classic – contemporary writing. I am definitely going to read more books of this author. If you love Hindi book, then you should not miss this.
P.S: With this post, I want to request every bookworms and reader to buy a book from this author. Please, we have already made those pathetic authors millionaire whose books doesn’t make sense but still make money by the marketing skill. (I may sound rude, but this is the truth) Mr. Laxman Rao says that the book’s earning is not enough to run his household so he still sells tea. I am not making this request out of sympathy but I am saying this cause the author deserves more recognition and financial support for his wonderful books. Do read his one book and I am sure you are going to love it.
Nice book. Loved the character of Paramjeet, who didn't quit his first job despite earning much higher from the other job offered by his friend cum boss Suraj. He didn't take advantage of helpless Nandini. All in all, this novel is simply an example of Good-Read.
