How else do you describe a woman that lies, cheats and steals to get what she wants?
That’s exactly what happens when she traps him into a marriage he wants nothing to do with, saddling him with a kid that he knows doesn’t deserve to be in a world like his.
He’s doing a pretty bang-up job at ignoring everything but his responsibilities as a DEA officer and a member of The Uncertain Saints MC.
Then his neighbor knocks on his door, and everything he thought he knew is blown out the window.
Deceit
Annie teaches Mig that not every woman is out to get him.
Her love for Mig stretches past what’s appropriate for two friends, and Annie soon straddles that invisible boundary between appropriate and inappropriate.
Annie’s not a cheater, though.
When she tries to say goodbye, Mig won’t let her leave, and soon the tiny town of Uncertain blows up with the news of Annie and Mig’s innocent friendship.
Betrayal
Matters of the heart are foreign to Mig, and it takes Annie being gutted for him to see the wrong he’s done.
He waits too long, though, and Annie’s heart is broken.
She wants it all, or she wants nothing. She can’t take anymore half-hearted attempts at being just friends.
The heart wants what it wants, and it doesn’t take long for Mig to realize that.
But just when Mig finally has it all in the palm of his hand, his life is ripped to shreds by a new player in the game, and it takes all of Annie’s love and devotion, as well as help from the men of The Uncertain Saint’s MC, to put Mig back together again.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
A woman in a bar is She gathers her strength and knows what she needs to do to make things right.
So she
It's just the right thing to do.
What? What's with that face? No good? It's disgusting and appalling and totally unrealistic?? Wow okay, hang on, hang on, let me see how I can fix this. Give me a minute..
There!!
I simply made the a man and I made the a woman! Better??? :D
*cue shouty capitals from a VERY PISSED OFF ORANGE*
...........HELL NO YOU ASSHOLE!!! THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT BETTER! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND?!?!
Gender roles aside, aside, having the MMC marrying this OW made zero. fucking. SENSE.
Not only is the OW getting away with and basically being REWARDED for her very real CRIME, but after it's all said and done he ends up anyway! (I know this had to happen so he and the FMC could get together but still) So what in the hell was the point?? The entire premise is so goddamn absurd I can't even wrap my head around it!
No, I seriously want to know what his warped fucking thought process was! He thought the best thing for his was to be He REALLY thinks that's the NOBLE FUCKING THING TO DO??? CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW MISERABLE WOULD HAVE BEEN???!?!?!?!?
....I....I have to calm down....
Okay I'm back.
Bottom line, this entire storyline is just appalling. If the author had simply changed how the OW and just had her maybe be a one night stand he then we could go with the whole storyline of how he meets the FMC and finally gets a taste of what a real connection feels like and then of course realizes he can't be in a loveless marriage no matter what he feels his obligations are blah blah blah. Yes that's a cliché/overused plot but it would have worked a hell of a lot better than this shit.
Lani Lynn Vale, I am absolutely a fan and have written 4 to 5 star reviews on your books in the past. Up until now you've been not only an auto buy but an auto PRE-ORDER for me. That's how I came to own this book.
But shame on you. :'(
You've taken a very serious and horrific subject matter and tried to pass it off as "Hey, shit happens. He married a bitch, what can you do?" He didn't marry a bitch. He wasn't "tricked into" or "trapped" into marriage. No, he married and therefore condoned the actions of a . All this while being a MEMBER OF LAW ENFORCEMENT.
Perhaps you should take my friend Eve's advice and sit down with a group of and see what they think of this plot.
I'm getting a full refund from Amazon. I cannot with good conscience stomach the thought of someone making 4 bucks off of me when they've handled so badly. I started this review angry and now I'm just sad. I genuinely have tears running down my face. So disappointed in you. This is going to be the first book from Lany's that I didn't like and I'm not going to rate. I just couldn't pass that the H was married to his bitch of a wife and the wife was pregnant with his kid I thought that maybe the kid was not his but in fact it is. The ex wife drugged him and she raped him and no he didn't turn her ass to the police instead he rewarded her ass and married her. He divorced his ex and there's no cheating I didn't liked the h either to me she seems stupid she gets hurt and the H got scared thinking that she got hurt because of him he runs and she chases him going to a bar where he has enemies so he can go and pick her up she masturbate using a huge dildo in her house when she knows that he has surveillance in her house he can see and hear everything. They don't get together for a month after he's divorced and after the h gets hurt. He goes to the doctor with the ow where in there the ex wife is place in bed rest what does the H do? He asked the h to move with him so she can help look after the ex wife because he can't pay someone to take care of her the h decides that they should moved in to her house there she proceeded to have sex with the H with the ex wife in the other room screaming she needs to use the bathroom because she needed to show the ow that she wasn't going to have the H at her beck and call and that's a perfect way to show the ow.( Sarcasm) and thats where I decided to quit This week i have been having intolerance for stupid heroines and heroes I can't stand when they're so stupid. Again there's no cheating in this book. Like I said before I just can't seem to pass the H has a kid on the way with ow and I find the h to be a pushover annoying stupid woman.

First I want to say that I ADORE this author. I love pretty much everything she writes. Now, that being said. I am BEYOND disgusted that she wrote about the WTH were you thinking author? I think you need to be sat down in a room full of and have a chat about how disgusting and demeaning that scenario is. Had the situation been reversed and it was the heroine that had been people would be ALL up in arms.
I'm appalled really. I don't know what else to say....
Jack & Coke is the second book in the Uncertain Saints MC series. If you read the synopsis of this book then you may be thinking that this book is about a triangle or cheating and let me assure you that it is about neither and I knew that would be the case because I trust Lani Lynn Vale and her writing. I will not give too much away, but I will say that Jennifer is a piece of work and you will despise her extremely quickly. Even with all that she has done to Mig he still does not act on his feelings for Annie until he and Jennifer are no longer together. You will fall completely in love with Annie as Mig did. Mig is someone you will also love. This book is a terrific read and can be read as a standalone. If you are able to read the first book in the series I recommend that you do so because it is an excellent book and great series. Jack & Coke is a such a good book and although MIg and Annie have a tough road to their HEA, it is definitely worth the journey.
I had a really really hard time with this book. I LOVE this author and so when I needed something to read I picked up this series. The first book was good but I didn't like it as much as I have liked the other books from his author I have read but like I said I love this author so I planned to read this entire series. This book did not work for me at all. It has too similar of a story line to book one and I didn't like the characters. For most of the book the hero in my opinion didn't deserve the heroine. He did what he wanted and the heroine just was supposed to and did accept it. I will also say what the ex does to the hero is horrible on every level and a crime and I hated his response and actions to it. The heroes ex was beyond horrible and the hero catered too her, and the heroine let too much go. She would be mad but then hot hero walks in and she forgets all he has done.
I will say I almost stopped reading this once I saw where this story was going because it is a storyline I don't like at all and I hoped it would turn out differently, I also wanted to finish this book hoping it would turn out differently. Now I admit I have very hard limits in books and yes I am picky so many probably won't have an issue with a lot of this book but for me it was a no all around. I for most the book wanted the heroine with someone else because she has to deal with way too much(in my opinion) and it felt like she was the only person in the relationship giving and compromising. Now The hero wasn't horrible but he had too much working against him of me. I felt bad for the heroine for most of the book and wondered why she was dealing with all she had to put up with till the epilogue. And then I lost all respect for her, now don't get me wrong the ex was evil but what someone does doesn't reflect on you however what you do does and what she does at the end no matter what was not ok at all. In the end I may pick this series up later but for now especially after getting info about book three I am going to set it aside and switch to other series from his author who I still love.
Jack & Coke was the second book in the Uncertain Saints series by Lani Lynn Vale.
Vitaly “Mig“ Konn was retired navy, a DEA agent and a member of the Uncertain Saints MC. He had a wife that he never should have had, and a baby on the way. His life was turbulent and messy.
Annie Garcia was the sexy neighbor to Mig. When they first met, Mig was married so they had a friendship and nothing more. Annie owned her own company as a masseuse and hair stylist. She was strong, beautiful and independent.
The storyline was action packed and suspenseful mixed in with humor. I loved Annie and I loved most of Mig. I don’t think his marriage was plausible, but no spoilers here, so no more elaboration. Just know there was no cheating but the story itself was very controversial and could be a trigger for some. The foundation of the storyline focused on their friendship/relationship; however, there were various sub plots related to their exes and local crime in the area. I loved the crime aspect, it kept it interesting and intriguing. My overall rating was a 3.5, which rounds to a 4 on this review site.
It was told in a dual POV and was well written. It was a fairly quick read with an undercurrent of crime and mystery. Vale also provided depth through a strong cast of secondary characters. They were humorous, loyal and well developed. Teasers were provided and next up is Casten and Tasha in Vodka on the Rocks.
I wish I could rate it higher, but I never felt fully invested in the story. It was good, but I felt something was missing...and the story ended up going in a completely different direction than what I thought which just seemed weird. As for the ending? It was a bit of a let down.
Will I continue reading this series? I'm not sure. I love LLV's other's series (Dixie Wardens and KPD Swat being my faves), but this one....not so much. I might end up skipping this series and just read the others.
WOW! A totally engrossing, beautiful, hot love story! I have read every book by Ms. Vale and with each book she gets better and better, she has a gift for drawing you in and holding you captive.
When things are meant to be…..Several weeks ago I purchased Lani Lynn Vale’s Whiskey Neat based on a fellow reader’s recommendation. I was instantly addicted. The day after I finished Whiskey Neat Author Harper Sloan did a Facebook post recommending all of Laci’s books. So I went to look up her backlist and wanted to slap myself silly because I had read her first book Boomtown and LOVED it then I got caught up in work and somehow forgot to look for more. The great thing is I was able to re-read Boomtown and proceeded to binge read the next 21 books she had out. I was in HEAVEN. Ms. Vale has crafted a unique, sexy and fun world that I was immersed in for 3 weeks, I didn’t want to come out of it. Luckily her next book, Shock Advised, came out a few days later, then the next week I got the ARC for Jack & Coke. Now sadly I am waiting for her next book and missing being in the world she has created. I will be honest there are some minor mistakes in the books, but the quality of the content combined with great prices for FULL length books, makes it easy for me to over look them.
Now on to Jack & Coke, I am not ashamed to admit that I was hesitant to read Jack & Coke because from the blurb it sounds like there is cheating and that is a hard limit for me. I took a leap of faith because Ms. Vale has stated cheating in books is not for her, I am so glad I did. There is no cheating, but the chemistry and affection are obvious, you can feel the pain Mig and Annie endure because neither of them are the kind to cheat. And let me tell you Mig’s circumstances are the only way I would not only be ok with him cheating, I would encourage it. I don’t want to giveaway any of the reasons I feel this way other than his “wife” is one of the most devious, evil, manipulating wenches I’ve ever read! The amount of evil and destruction she causes is unimaginable.
Mig is definitely an Alpha male, he has a code of honor that almost keeps him in a miserable marriage and from being with the love of his life. He has been in love with Annie since the day he saw her move in but has refused to act on because of his sense of honor.
I loved Mig, but absolutely LOVE Annie! Annie is quirky, funny, zany, caring and loving. She fell in love with Mig the first time she saw him on his motorcycle, once she found out he was married she put him in the friend zone despite her feelings.
Mig and Annie had a tough road getting to their HEA, that road was filled with a manipulative wife, longing, danger, humor , raw emotions and a beautiful romance built to last a life time. Not to mention a great cast of secondary characters.
I highly recommend reading all of Lani Lynn Vale’s books and there are a lot. You can read Jack & Coke as a standalone but I suggest reading Whiskey Neat first. All of Lani’s series are loosely interconnected but you do not have to read them all to understand them. If you are like me and feel like you have to read everything in order or you will perish, I have included the current reading order of all of her books, you will notice the timeline of the series is interconnected. Again, you can read each series in order or read in the order I listed, you won’t be lost either way.

I love this author like so big. She's a top favorite. I've read EVERY single book she's a written. I haven't every rated one book less than 4 stars. She's amazing. My feelings towards this book are completely my own personal issues and beliefs. I am a mother of 3 boys and and I believe that the way that a very important and extremely wrong act was treated in this book ruined a great love story. Also the ex who is the villain was in every chapter and caused major upset to the heroine. These are my feelings and a lot of people will like it.
Sizzling Pages adores this author and will continue to read and support her always.
I don't know where to start with this one. At the beginning I was interested, but the second half did not have me screaming for joy.
Annie (BFF with Lenore from book 1) has an ex-husband that's a jerk. She's had a crush on her neighbor ever since he moved in next door. Mig (MC member, DEA agent) has a crush on Annie - but he's married to this psycho woman, who is also pregnant with his kid. There's more to that story, but I've listed it under spoilers below. At the beginning I really believed Mig loved Annie. The second he has the opportunity to get with her, his attitude seems to change. He doesn't really pay her nearly as much attention as he should and I don't feel like he loves her at all. He's talked about how she's the most beautiful person he's ever known and how he wants to cherish her and take care of her, but he won't cheat on the woman he's married to, despite the circumstances. So when he's finally divorced, he doesn't even bother going to Annie or anything. We also get a dose of the "leaving you for your own safety". Ugh I hate that trope, and it was also used in the last book. Annie also has some really bad luck during this book. She's attacked like 5 different times. That girls a magnet for danger. In the end, I didn't love it, but I didn't totally hate everything about it either. It was better than the last book.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD
So, Mig, despite being a DEA agent, gets roofied by Jennifer (I think that's her name). When he's passed out, she uses him to get knocked up. Because he believes you need to marry the woman having your kid, the dumb f*ck marries her. So damn stupid in my opinion. Plus, he has all the evidence showing what she did, but he doesn't report her to the police. That entire thing is just messed up and dumb, IMO. Even though he hates her and only married her because of the baby, he never cheats on her, and waits until he gets divorced before he pursues anything with Annie.
Later on, this fool asks Annie to move in with Jennifer and help take care of her towards the end of the pregnancy. Um.... no f*cking thank you. Annie just lets him treat her like crap and always puts Jennifer first. I hated that part. Plus, in the epilogue, she goes to visit Jen in prison and to stop writing letters to their kid. It was just SO WEIRD. You'll have to read it to see what I mean but I just had a big hell no for that.
I'm flopping on the stars. I think I'll give it 2 for now. I'm not sure why.
----------------------- I was dying to read this story, but I confess that I was disappointed. The hero was drugged and raped by a slut who gets pregnant and he marries her. She is instructed by drug traffickers to infiltrate his life to give them material to blackmail him later. That's right, he marries the bitch who is a manipulative full of bad intentions ... but he marries her anyway. The heroine is in love with him for a long time, but never had the guts to do anything about it. End up getting friends and their relationship will developing despite the obligations of the hero with the woman carrying his child. Woman who is a real bitch and it's like marrying a snake and bring it into the House. There occur a series of attacks on the loved ones of the hero and he's still taking care of his wife, even after separation and the evidence that she's a manipulative bitch. He is so stupid that instead of delivering the cow to the police and get rid of her ... He is feeling guilty and takes care of her until the final betrayal and that almost killed him. But I'm going to continue following up the series that promises to be very good. Still one of my favorite authors!
I am sucked in. I have stars in my eyes. This series is awesome!
I am going to sound like a gushy mick gush’ersin!! I <3 Mig! I loved book 1 and I am all crazy over book 2. How did I not know about this series.. Ok anywayssssa back to the book.
Mig is one heck of a man, not only does he do what he thinks is best even if it’s at the expense of his own happiness. But he is strong, fearsome, and loyal. He just digs his way into your heart and you can’t help but want to heal him. And make it all better. But he is too manly for that. Haha I can’t even tell you how much I like this character.
Annie is a character I thought only got stronger over the course of the book. She became the kind of women Mig needed. She wasn't ever a weak kind of women but I loved the spunk she has and how she doesn't take any gruff from anyone including Mig. I love that every female character in this series can stand on her own. She doesn't NEED a man but hey it’s nice to have one around right. ;)
I swooned, I had a tear it didn't leave my eye but I was left with a huge smile on my face. These are my kind of HEA’s.
Again, same narration as book 1 so already knew I was a fan but I liked that it didn't sound like the same book. Sometimes I find if it’s the same narrator/s in a series with different characters the books bleed together. But I am so happy that was NOT the case. I am so jumping on to book 3!
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
Listen up folks, rape is rape is rape is rape. Man or woman, you have sex with someone without their permission, it's assault. "Stepping up to the plate" and marrying your pregnant rapist isn't just a stupid storyline, it's fucking ridiculous.
Mig Konn is stuck in a marriage with a woman he despises, a woman who drugged and raped him, got herself pregnant and now makes his life a living hell every day. All he wants is his neighbor Annie, a woman he can't have. Annie wants Mig desperately too, but she won't be the other woman. She'll settle for just being his friend. But things have a way of working out, even if it's not how they expected.
So, this sums up this piece of shit story in a nutshell:
"I can't believe you trapped me into marrying you. I can't believe you gave me a date rape drug to make me fuck you. I can't believe we now have a baby on the way and I can't fucking leave because my morals don't allow me to leave a woman that's carrying my child. I can't believe you think I care even a single bit about you. If you weren't carrying my child, I could give any less of a crap about you."
I can't even express how much I hated every inch of this book. If a woman is drugged and raped, it's the story line for multiple mental and emotional issues, but a dude? He gets a kid and a wife and is stuck in an unloving marriage because of his morals???? What the everlovingfuck is this BS? I get it, it's FICTION. It's erotic romance. It's not real life. And thank fuck for that, because nobody could possibly be this stupid.
I won't even get into the shitty characters and terrible editing. There's simply nothing about this I can recommend, and despite multiple stellar reviews on other reads by Ms. Vale, this will be my last effort to read her work.
Uncertain is the perfect name for the setting of Lani Lynn Vale’s Uncertain Saint’s MC series. The description of this Texas town conjures up all kinds of nothing to do but get into trouble. It borders on the Caddo River, such a hotbed of illegal trafficking in drugs and guns that the DEA and the Texas Rangers have men permanently stationed in this blip on the map. And, it’s these very men as well as other law enforcement types, who make up the rather small Uncertain Saint’s MC. Each man has a unique and mostly tragic personal history. Which always makes for a good story. It’s also what brought them together in the first place, forming the MC primarily as a coping and bonding vehicle. Lest you think these guys sit around and shoot the shit over Cosmo’s while braiding each other’s hair, think again. The Uncertain Saint’s are notorious for serving up their own brand of justice to the scumbags who have skirted around the legal system.
Ms. Vale gave us a few hints in Whiskey Neat as to who the characters would be in this one so I was excited for Jack & Coke. If you’ve read Whiskey Neat you will remember spunky Lenore, owner of the one and only sex toy shop in town. If you haven’t read Whiskey Neat you need to get on that. So...Lenore’s shop is next door to a salon owned by Annie. The two gals became fast friends in Whiskey Neat, which exposed Annie to the guys in the MC. By way of association, not in the dirty way your mind just pictured. When last we saw Annie, she was pondering the hotness of one Uncertain Saint's brother named Mig. Cue the story of Annie and Mig.
Mig is an honorable guy. Even though his wife defines the words conniving, underhanded, bitch, he’d committed to seeing this marriage through for one reason. She’s carrying his baby. He doesn’t love Jennifer. He doesn’t even like her. And the way she trapped him into marrying her was pretty damn despicable. Mig knows what it’s like to grow up with parents who hate each other and it’s not anything he wants to subject his own child to. He’s finally realized there’s no way in hell he’ll be able to continue this sham. So, as soon as his son or daughter is born, he's divorcing this shrew. Hopefully, it won’t be too late to pursue the woman he really wants in his life. Annie. His next door neighbor is adorable, sweet, kind, funny, and has a body made for...you get the picture. It’s torture seeing her every day, knowing he can’t have her. Especially since she kicked her no-good husband to the curb.
Annie has no regrets about divorcing her scumbag husband. She knew better than to settle, but she’s not one to dwell on her mistakes. She should get back out in the dating pool but the one man she really wants is married. Which is a mystery to her because from what she sees (not that she snoops or anything) they sure don’t look happy with each other. When Lenore tricks her into going to the MC clubhouse one night, Annie learns the sordid but true story of why Mig and Jennifer got married. Mystery solved. And when Mig up and walks out on Jennifer (after he’s had it up to here with her shit) and files for annulment, Annie doesn’t feel bad one little bit.
That, my friends, is the simple version of how Annie and Mig get together. There's a whole lot of juicy stuff around the edges and in the middle of their story. Juicy stuff like bad guys involved in drug deals that Annie innocently stumbles into, threatening notes left with dead bodies, Mig going all caveman to protect Annie from harm, shocking surprises that will...well, shock the pants off you. And juicy stuff like Mig and Annie devouring each other in uncontrollable lust, which is my personal favorite kind of juicy stuff.
He examined the dildo in his hand, then looked back at me with amusement. “It’s not mine,” I said. He grinned. “What kind were you using last night? Do you know that I have your apartment wired? I heard every single moan,” he moved closer. “Every single sigh.” Closer still. “And every single time you called my name.” By the time he was finished, he had me backed up against the door. His lower body pinned mine to the door, and I bit my lip as I felt every single inch of him. Steel hard.
Lani Lynn Vale once again gives us a fast-paced, wild ride that hits the ground running and doesn’t stop until The End. I love that she packs so much action and suspense into the books in this series. I love these Uncertain Saint’s MC men even though I always want to smack them upside the head when they say, I’m no good for you.We can’t be together anymore. Sure, some of it is a bit over the top. But it’s entertaining as hell, sexy as all get out, and laugh out loud funny. Jack & Coke is another winner, and I can’t wait for the next book! OH, and you’ll just adore the bit about the baby! ***** Reviewed for Xtreme Delusions *****
This story had potential. But I don't have patience for stupid characters. Especialy, as that character has a training like Mig has. First of... Marrying woman just because she's pregnant? Especially, the way it happened? I can't even. Yes, you should take responsibility, but if you have no respect for that woman, how can you even thing about marrying her? That's not healthy, not only for you but for the baby too. And how Mig acted with his ex-wife. He said more then once, how his ex was manipulative, but he always jumped to her bidding. It was annoying, especially when that was witnessed by Anne. And come on! One time his ex said one reason why she trapped him, next time she said differently. Who knows what's the true. As far as he knew she willingly was part of all that bullshit following Mig. Did he suspected her? No. Why the heck all his training was for then? For him to just brag about it? And at the end of all this bullshit, Mig was sympathetic to his ex plait? Are you serious? Honestly, I lost all faith in Mig. He was unable to win me over at the end.
The story was great and the narration was fantastic!!! Loved the characters and completely understood and related to them. Loved the chemistry between Mig and Annie and man, I loathed Jennifer!! What a manipulative beeotch!!!
Great story plus fantastic narration make JACK & COKE a MUST!
Jack and Coke (Uncertain Saints MC 2) Lani Lynn Vale 5 stars
Ok first of all the cover … its amazing right??!?!?!?!! -- I LOVE the neon lettering that draws your eyes right to the tattoos on Mig. Fantastic!
Second – its Lani and it’s the Uncertain Saints. Of course it’s a must read. But lord for real grab a Jack and Coke before you turn the pages on this one because holy smokes there is one nasty woman slithering through he pages on this read.
In true form Lani gives us a man to die for. Mig is married to a lying, cheating and brutal woman who tricked him in more ways than one. To top it all off he knows exactly what she did and he still is being honorable. What?!?!?! Mig is taken with his neighbor Annie but there is not one ounce of cheating, touching, or anything until certain events take place. No that isn’t a spoiler because it happens quickly within the story line but Im telling you I wouldn’t have blamed him one bit. In fact I was mad he didn’t cross a line.
Annie is in love with the man who lives next door but he is taken by an evil woman. She wont ever lay her hands on him or cross a line and neither will Mig. I LOVED Annie’s character. She is smart, sassy, and takes no prisoners. Her honesty is refreshing and she definitely tells it like it is. This is a great story and it kept me on my toes and guessing.
I also loved two of our secondary characters who were featured; Tasha and Casten. I have a feeling this is going to be a story of stories between these two or maybe not. If you go to Lani’s page you can see the cover of Vodka on the Rocks featuring Casten. UHHHH .. HELLLLLO THERE MR ENFORCER MAN. There is a snippet of a lady there in the synopsis but it doesn’t say who. Im dying!
There is so much going on through the pages of Jack and Coke. I cant even begin to tell you the level of deceit and betrayal. I also loved fact that all the guys are back. You do not need to read the first release (Whiskey Neat) in this series but I have no idea why you wouldn’t. That just would not be smart. In fact if you haven’t read all of Lani’s other series you need to pick those up as well. I promise you they are all amazing.
Thank you for the ARC Lani! We get Vodka On The Rocks in July and there is always more on tap when Lani is writing so be ready! Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.

Average score: 3/5
Best Lines: “Children changed everything, absolutely everything.”
Worst Lines: “I’d give anything to be with her but my life, and name, belonged to my wife.”
Personal Review: I was quite conflicted on whether or not I wanted to read this book based on the blurb as I hate ANY forms of cheating but I thought I would give it ago because I liked Lani’s previous books.
I had my issues with this story but on the whole it was ok. Nothing to write home about.
Random Ramblings: •Didn’t like that the OW was still living with H even after the annulment was final •It was a stupid idea to ask the h to babysit the OW for two weeks and it was stupider that the h agreed (after the H guilted her into it) •Urgh….the h and H fuck each other in the OWs hearing •I cringe every time I read a sex scene where they’re getting it on near the parents
Not bad but not good either. Hero and heroine are neighbors. She’s divorced and he’s married but unhappy. Hero is attracted to the heroine but he thinks he’s too bad and damaged for her, why? He’s some kind of special op, so what. He was raped and drugged by his wife so she got pregnant na she married her. Again, why? Couldn’t he just offer her support? After all, he knew and had proofs he was drugged and raped, so why marry her? Apparently he never touched her again. She is a druggy and involved with some dealer, and so was the heroine husband. Basically this is more mystery cop story than romance because the hero has his marriage annulled and starts dating the heroine, and the focus then shift on the drug dealer who threatens, beats and makes a lot of more damage than many mafia guys would do. It looked a bit far fetched. The man acts like the boss of the bosses, but he’s basically a self made drug dealer, only he’s able to give hard time to an entire swat squad. Mmmm. Not even the Colombian cartel would do such a damage. Whatever. The hero gets his kid as soon as he’s born and the heroine will be his mama since the hero’s ex wife goes to jail straight away. It could have been good had it not been for the hero having the kid with ow. They didn’t meet before, the heroine saw him in town but they hadn’t met before she became his neighbor. So to me it’s safe, because the hero never had sex with his wife except when he was drugged. This author doesn’t write manwhore and often has celibate heroes, which is why I want to read some more.
Ohhh Annie and Mig and baby Vitole! This was quite the mess from the get go...Mig gets drugged and date raped for his seed...even if his nasty wife said it was an accident...all to set him up! Being a son of a billionaire and a DEA Agent has put him on the wrong peoples radar and they will do anything and hurt anyone to take him down...I loved the relationship between Annie and Mig...Annie is sassy and strong...and I loved that we have the same name...this was a sexy little romance mystery and I loved it...I am on to book 3!!
I liked Annie. Mig was good at heart but I REALLY wanted to smack him for how he handled pretty much EVERYTHING. He was toeing that martyr/dumbass line a little too much for my taste.
“…here I was, years later, still just as hot for him as the day I’d seen him for the first time.”
Annie has been crushing on Mig for years, since he first rolled into town. After her marriage to her cheating ex ended, Annie unknowingly purchased the house next door to Mig, and a friendship began. Annie settled into the friendship, after all what choice did she have? He was married with a baby on the way.
“…if there was any way I could rewind a year, I’d do it in a heartbeat.”
Mig is a DEA agent and a member of the Uncertain Saints. He has always had difficulty trusting women—with good reason. It began after his parent’s marriage fell apart, when his dad’s girlfriend’s would behave towards him in one way when his dad was present. But out of his father’s sight was another story, as Mig became the bothersome little boy to his father’s bevy of girlfriends.
“…she’s a master manipulator, and she knows exactly what she’s doing.”
His opinions are only solidified after he meets Jennifer. She came into his life with a purpose. He was her target, and she was intent on a relationship with him. This is not a loving relationship, but one born out of deception and entrapment and through a heinous act. Though her actions were premeditated and criminal, Mig’s moral code forces him to do the right thing by his child and thus the woman carrying her. Despite his vehement dislike for the mother of his child, he does the unimaginable—he marries her. But this is no real marriage. Jennifer is selfish and rude, and Mig is miserable. The only pleasant thing about his home life is his pretty and sweet next door neighbor, the woman he has befriended and who his heart longs for.
“I wanted Annie to be the woman carrying my child and not this deceptive bitch…”
All of Jennifer’s lies start unraveling when Mig confronts one of Annie’s customers. There is more going on here than Mig suspected, and while he may be the target, it is Annie who winds up in the crosshairs. Can Mig track down the source of their problems before the danger swirling around them comes crashing in?
This is the second book in Lani Lynn Vale’s Uncertain Saints series. This series is different than Vale’s previous works. Her voice here is edgier, the storylines are grittier than what we’ve seen from her before, and I am truly loving this evolving side of her talent. She tackles some tough topics, and she does it well, with empathy and detail. Her books are always fresh and exciting, rich with her trademark sarcastic humor and deliciously sexy. This one, though, is all of that but so much more. The suspense portion of the plot is unlike anything I’ve ever read, and it kept me turning the pages. Vale balances all of the action, though, with a passionate romance. Incredibly, she has really ramped up the steaminess in this series and that’s truly saying something considering her books are never short on that element.
Each month, Iike all Vale fans, I get a new book from her, and it should no longer surprise me that she manages to amaze me every month, but it does. Her talent and her creativity are evident on every page, and as a long time fan of hers, I am so excited about the direction she’s taking her writing in this series and her Kilgore FD series. I enjoyed this book so much, and I’m anxiously awaiting the next one in this series. Lani Lynn Vale’s Jack & Coke gets 5 smooches from me!
I am a huge fan of Lani's work, if she writes it I will buy it, probably without reading the blurb! Jack & Coke is book 2 in the Uncertain Saint's series and while it can be read as a standalone I'd highly recommend reading this and any of her series in order. Mig's story was heart breaking and made me want to hurt a skank, I can't say I've ever wanted to see someone hit a pregnant woman and I do not condone violence against women but I'm certain had someone slapped this crap outta his wife I would have had a hard time not smiling like I was watching Magic Mike live. Jennifer is his vindictive wife, who happens to be carrying his baby. This b**ch was something else, the horrific things she did and put Mig through to get herself attached to him were bad enough but then she had to mess with Annie on top of all that. Nope, not telling you what she did, just know that this whore has to be the worst of the worst. Mig did what he thought was right in order to get the only thing he wants from Jennifer, his baby. While he's trapped in a loveless marriage he falls for someone else, someone who lives next door to him and is an easy target for Jennifer to spew her evil at.
Annie's recently divorced from a real prick. She's got her business and her friends, as well as a crush on her next door neighbor. A neighbor she has no right drooling over since he's a married man. (I have no tolerance for cheating spouses but that's not how this goes down so relax!!) Annie's got problems she doesn't know about until Mig shows up to protect her, and once his protective instincts kick in you may as well sit down an hang on for the ride because he's not backing down. Luckily for Annie he's that kind of man, otherwise she may have lost her life. But it also brings Mig to the realization that he can never be the man for Annie, even without Jennifer in the picture his life is just too dangerous to involve her in so he backs away.
Two hard headed people butt heads more than once, both for what they want and fighting against it. I loved them both even though I did want to smack some sense into Mig a time or two! Jack & Coke is another great read from one of my favorite authors.
