This is book 7 in the Sweet Cove Mystery series. Although the main mystery is solved in each story, the books should be read in order to enhance your enjoyment as some story threads run from book to book.

4.5 stars As a part of my festive fall reading, I picked up the next book in the Sweet Cove Mystery series, Sweet Fire and Stone. It is a delightfully fun seasonal cozy mystery, and the 7th in the series by J. A. Whiting.
I’m a huge fan of this magical series. Its characters, unique mysteries and setting are always so engaging, and Sweet Fire and Stone is even better with its festive Fall theme.
Set in October in Sweet Cove, Massachusetts, The Roseland sisters, Mr. Finch, and their cats, Circe and Euclid, are enjoying the Fall season…the town decor, the scarecrow festival, and time around their fire pit in the evenings. All is peaceful and going as planned until Chief Martin asks the girls to come and see something disturbing in the town square, something directly related to them! Not only is the scene unsettling, but unusual strangers have been showing up around town, mistletoe has been springing up in the trees where it doesn’t belong, and all of the sisters’ eerie, tingly sensations are thrumming! Danger is in the air and it’s coming for them.
This story includes a good amount of the Roseland girls’ history, a continuation of their romantic relationships, and all kinds of good, spooky fun! It was a pleasure to read and the perfect October reading choice.
This was my favorite in this series, so far. It is about 4 sisters and a close friend named Mr. Finch. Oh, and I mustn’t forget about the 2 cats! The book is told from the sister Angie’s viewpoint. The girls are slowly coming into their supernatural powers, so we learn new things each book of what the girls can do. So far Ellie seems to be the most powerful, but she’s also the most reluctant to use what she has. She avoids becoming involved whenever possible, but her sisters have seen her twist a gun into a pretzel shape and move objects with her mind. I hope to read more about her talent in future books, but Ellie needs to get over the fact that she does possess these powers and she needs to embrace them rather than deny them!
The Chief of Police often requested assistance from the sisters and asks them if they can “sense” the form of danger or whatever crime is going on at the time. The cats - Euclid is a male orange Maine Coon and Circe is a female black cat. They don’t show any signs of having powers like the sisters, but they are usually present and watching the sisters and listening to whatever is happening. They are like non talking little humans (well, Euclid is anything but little. If you don’t know what I’m talking about internet search Maine Coon cats!) The cats have also helped the sisters get out of trouble numerous times, once by attacking a someone with a gun held up to the sisters!
This read really showed the importance of family and how close the sisters are to Mr. Finch. There was no murder in this, but there were mysteries to solve and they involved the need for using sixth senses. I like when a series has a couple of mysteries outside of someone dying! Every book also has recipes from what the characters ate, at the end.
I enjoyed this Sweet Cove mystery more than the others I have read so far.
There was no body to find, no funerals to attend. The mystery involved the Roseland sisters, their Mom, Mr. Finch and their Nana along with some new people at the B and B. Ellie has rented two rooms to strange people. One the New Professor and a strange man who said his Name was Walter Whitle
Actually Walter was trying to help them. It all started with a fire on the town Common. Someone started some scarecrows on fire that was set up like the four Roseland Sisters and their friend, Mr. Finch.
Then a fire was started in a house on a street near the Victorian where the sisters live.
The story was very well written and it kept my attention until the very end when the mystery was revealed. I am now on my way to finish my March books and my serial reads.
This book had such a lovely autumn vibe I was so sad I wasn’t reading it in a few weeks when it will get cold.
Compared to the other books in the series, the stakes here were a little higher. The sisters are facing a threat to their lives and they can’t tell who could be out to harm them. The guests, Gloria and the grumpy couple were all so sketchy and for the longest time I couldn’t figure out who was the bad guy.
I’m really flying through these books, they are super addictive and so lovely!
Mistletoe, inherited necklaces and Halloween don't mix in Sweet Cove!!!!!!
The girls found themselves in a big scary situation, that they didn't know what was the cause of it. They had scary messages, fires set at different parts of town, strangers running around town trying to find out about them. The people they know acting very suspicious about what is happening. Mr. Finch was just as confused as the four sisters were. I never knew all these facts about mistletoe until I read this book, I am really surprised and glad to know more about them. You will be pleasantly surprised and not at all disappointed in this book, I didn't sleep much to finish reading to find out who, what, how and why. BOO!!!!!!!!
Angie's cafe is open and fall has the town preparing for a scarecrow contest on the village green. This book starts with some ominous characters and occurrences. This author does a great job of providing a "stand-alone" mystery for each book (not always a murder) and developing the characters and their relationships. This one was wonderful!
Amazon synopsis: It is October in Sweet Cove, Massachusetts and the Roseland sisters and Mr. Finch are enjoying the fall season until Police Chief Martin asks them to come to the town common to see something that might be a threat to the family. I love this series and I'm looking forward to the saga. This time it is Halloween and the ladies sense something is amiss. There was a fire in the common where everyone is putting up decorated scarecrows and someone put up four scarecrows and two images of cats and set them on fire. The Police Chief think that the girls might be in trouble and someone wants to do them harm.
There are four new strangers in town and each one is acting strange...could it be one of then? Or maybe the hairdresser Gloria? Again the author keeps you guessing who it is that is out to harm the girls and along the way some new surprises await!
Previous books have been an easy and entertaining read. However, this one was not nor was the plot line anywhere easily followed. Hard to keep the characters straight even though I have read quite a few of the author's books. I think probably to many things happening and to many people included. I do love reading about Sweet Cove and I will be continuing to. I really like reading about the main characters they become real and feel like our own family. Can't wait to read more about them.
A fun Halloween time mystery that's a little bit creepy in some places and had our five friends and their two fine felines scrambling to figure out what trouble was coming for them. At one point, I suspected whodunit, so I stayed with that idea and was right. The showdown was pretty exciting, and as always, the awesome cats Euclid and Circe had a lot to do with helping in the case and the showdown. I absolutely love spending time in Sweet Cove with these characters!
I have enjoyed the Sweet Cove Mysteries because of the "intuition" these sisters have. The end of this book seemed to indicate something deeper. That being said I will just have to read the next book to find out where this is headed. This book kept me on my toes more than the previous books because this gets personal. So many suspects, are they working together or each on his/her own. Who is innocent and who has evil intentions? So many questions and so many surprise answers at the end.
Another very good book in the series! Love this series…..4 sisters (with “powers”) sharing a large “mansion” create a jewelry store, bakery, and a B&B in it. 2 very smart cats, Mr Finch also has “powers”, liars telling lies, evil doers doing evil deeds, blossoming romances (no sex), mysteries to solve, Magik, and no cliffhanger endings. Can you solve the mysteries before the end? I didn’t…..but, enjoyed it thoroughly. Oh…..and there are recipes! I can’t wait to read the next one.
This was enjoyable! The mystery was engaging, there were surprises along the way (although the culprit wasn't one of them), the paranormal aspect was slightly ratcheted up which was welcome, and the book wasn't littered with "Attorney" labels (FINALLY!). This is sweet, wholesome storytelling with characters to match.
Angie's bake shop is open again and is a hit. They have some strange people in town and staying at B&B. They start finding mistletoe around the town and at home. They find it growing in the oak tree by fire pit. They find a necklace in their mother's things. Good story and good and strange characters.
I have recently been reading all the books in this series. They are well written and the characters are filled with love for each other. This book was a little more mysterious than the others. I enjoyed reading it
This was definitely the best one of the series so far. This is one series I hope goes on for a long time. All of the characters have become good friends and I love the way that thethey are slowly discovering their powers.
Although I enjoyed this book, the story line dragged a little. The girls are great at getting to the bottom of the mystery with Mr Finch and the cats help. I still recommend this book to all my friends
The latest in this series does not disappoint. When the mysteries are solved, everything makes complete sense. For this book, arson is the repeated crime, which is every bit as sinister as murder. What a delightful tale!
I love this series with some paranormal and a beautiful cast of characters including two adorable felines. This book is recommended for those that love cozy mysteries.
Ms. Whiting sweet cove mystery series is the best time to relax and enjoy the wonderful tales of close family, friends, love and adventure with a bit of magic to add spice!!!! If you read the first you will crave all. What a gift her books give to all who find her. The best.
This book cat me on my toes I thought it was the old couple at first but then I couldn’t decide on who it was and it was a very good book and series I’m looking forward to the next book in the series I believe you are enjoy it if you start the series
I enjoy this paranormal cozy mystery series and glad to start up again. If you can suspend reality, it’s a fun story with a decent plot. As with several series, the best part is the characters. I’m quite fond of the sisters and Mr. Finch.
