3 Estrellas.

Old-fashion romance reminiscent of YEARS by LaVyrle Spencer. The story may not be a 5-star material but for all the enjoyment and satisfaction I received reading it -well deserved rating.

'When the manager of a late-19th-century traveling theater troupe runs off with the box office receipts--leaving his employees high and dry in Steadman, Neb.--singer Juliet Drake takes a job as cook/housekeeper for farmer Amos Morgan, Amos's terminally ill sister Frances and his 16-year-old son, Ethan."
Saying that Amos was reluctant to hire Juliet is a pretty big understatement. He was burned by charms of one pretty girl in his youth, and, of cause , the "actresses" have a certain reputation, don't they? He had to think about his impressionable son. Only his sister's illness, his sister-in-law's power of persuasion, and a general lack of applicants sealed the deal.
Juliet was not happy with the situation either. Firstly, she had no idea how to cook even a simple meal. Nomadic life of the traveling troupe was not conductive to domestics. Secondly, there was grouchy, cranky Amos, to deal with. But she needed money to buy a train ticket for New York.

And so , from such unpromising beginning , the author slowly unfolds a heartwarming romance where the protagonists eventually learned the respect and then love from each other. Their journey was filled with poignant , humorous, and enduring moments. The author's ability to create a historically accurate setting was gratifying. The goings in a small Nebraska town, isolated life on a farm, old fashion neighbors-helping-neighbors concept -all of it created a realistic sense of place. Wonderful story!

An actress becomes a housekeeper for a farmer. It was good.

Juliet Drake is a singer with a traveling theater company performing in Nebraska when the company manager absconds with all the money. A search for employment lands her a housekeeping job on a trial basis with a farmer and his ailing sister. Amos is skeptical of her possible reputation but needs the help. It takes some time for Juliet to find her footing in her duties but gradually proves her worth and makes friends with them all. But Frances' health worsens and soon succumbs leaving changed circumstances and a marriage of convenience. Of course, more events occur to make their way rough but the journey to happiness reaches its positive conclusion. A good story.

An interesting story, about an acting troup that performed in Steadman, Nebraska, when they were finished, they found out their manager had ascounded town with all their money. Most of the actors were accoustomed to his ways, and had mmoney put aside, so they left towm. However one 17 year old singer was left standed with out funds. This is the begining of this story, and how she surrived and found a new life. Hard to put down.

Nice story between a farmer and an actress,. There was no huge melodrama or misunderstandings in this one, but there are some conflicts. Steam factor is pretty low. Lusty thoughts, one kiss and no major love scene . Good, but I felt like it needed more something to make it better.
