Suckered by a cover and a title. A mere 34 pages of intro-level googleable tidbits. Doing my part to discourage these, not even pamphlets, some people think you can turn a long blog post into an approx 50-page epub and call that a book.

I really appreciate that the author didn't waste time with stories of others doing the recommended change.

Overview: This is a huge title for a book that is so small and superficial that it proposes to teach self-discipline methods whose results are independent of formulas but of a series of circumstances inherent in the life of the interested. This is not a book for me, but it could appeal to the intended audience.
Reading self-help books takes me out of my comfort zone, but I decided to do it to extend my perspective on personal organizing. Yes, I used the mantra technique described in the book at some point in my life, but it was all done improvisedly. Even though I didn't know what would happen, I clung to an idea and put it into action. We can even plan something or perform a routine meticulously, but none of this is a guarantee of success.
By marketing success methods, the author ignores the unique experiences of each individual. For up to 80% of the book, he considers the notion of self-discipline as something that is dependent on the person's basic choice. What is known is not the whole truth. Only when the author began to relativize the methods in light of life's circumstances did I begin to agree with him.
This pamphlet may serve as a guide for people with zero understanding of the subject, but be warned that everything discussed in it is common information because it was either previously published by another author or was the outcome of some significant research.

Pros: Quick read that can please the target audience.

Cons: Superficial book that promotes miraculous success methods with no guarantees. The author presents everything in a generic and highly simplified manner, alluding to certain studies here and there but without depth. The book may have been better explored through the author's own experiences, but he decided to interpret everything theoretically. It's too bad.

Whenever I feel down and so lacking self discipline, I pick one of these books to help me - even slightly- to recharge my energy and motivate myself to get back on track.

What I like the most about this book, is how brief it is.

I listened to it on GriwBizInvest channel on YouTube, and yes I recommend it.

There are some lines in this book that might help, but it is overall very shallow and short.

This book is great for who is figuring out what is self discipline basically. Book content is concise and kind of easy to understand and follow.
Although it give practical examples to take action to become a self discipline person, I honestly don't persuaded enough for a myself change.
The most thing I liked the most is to not having any excuse for whatever you don't do if you know it's good which is LAZINESS!

Short,Simple, straight forward, useful and has helped me a lot..
It didn’t try to motivate the reader becauuse it wanted the reader to be motivated when he or she isn’t ...it’s hard to explain ..but I would say it’s 38 pages worth reading ❤️

This highly rated (in Amazon US) book on how to achieve self-discipline was found after a quick search for a short introduction to the subject and the description of a sort of recipe for self-training purposes.
The usual promises were made of achievements that are possible and the success levels that can be reached: from a marketing point of view - no surprise here. The somehow expected introductory sales verbiage.
Most readers may be interested in understanding the phenomenon of “self-discipline”, the reasons why it is not evident or even straight forward to reach the state of achievement based on a rigorously enforced self-discipline.
The author has undertaken a kind of literature review and condensed the evidence-based findings in a 30+ pages document.
As such the document has appeal and a certain level of quality, no-nonsense after all. It indeed reflects knowledge that can be found in other similarly serious publications on the topic.
The conclusion is in line of what you might expect: self-discipline is about overcoming old habits, practices, and unproductive routines, including procrastination and laziness. Like in sports, it is hard training and perseverance which normally generate over time the wanted and expected results. It is helpful to have a personalized visualized action plan, with determined objectives, quantifiable goals and scheduled milestones to reach.
Support yourself with mental training and regularly and repeatedly chant focused mantras to yourself. Reward yourself with praise and material encouragements (in moderation). Go for innovative changes in your life and ultimately become the version of yourself that you want to be. That’s it.
This small primer has its charm and value, but could have been more elaborate, with references to scientific literature, by naming authors who are experts in this field. It could have gone slightly beyond the published text in being more than a summary of the current popular and to some extent scientific knowledge on the research and practice field of self-discipline.
Good for someone who wants to know the field as a 101 discoverer, and then read this book in detail in less than an hour.

Often times I start a book and before the first chapter is over I've decided that the author doesn't know what they're talkin about and the book is worthless. but it's not every time that I decide that I need to write a review about it because it's that bad.

I don't even think the author knows the true definition of the word "discipline" let alone how to teach it. "Self-discipline is an amazing quality that you can gain if you just use your self-discipline (and buy my books)"

Sometimes bad books can still teach you things despite themselves. Maybe in their wrongness they confirm things you already know. This book gave me a better idea of what discipline is by making me disagree.

To me discipline is the ability to be uncomfortable and still do work. How does one learn to tolerate discomfort, hell if I know, join the Marines I guess. This book doesn't tell me, so it's useless.

I didn't expect this book to be so short. It feels like a slightly longer version of a blog post, which I don't really mind. What I actually don't like is, that it's lacking a "scientific background".

Even if lots of the mentioned ideas in the book are quite known, I'd like to highlight my 5 key takeaways:

* Visualize what you truly want and why you want it, otherwise you won't gather enough self discipline to stick with it (In my experience, this is 100% true!)
* Make active decisions to form habits, even though the feel unnatural
* Make a pro and contro list why being self disciplined is important
* Weigh immediate gratification against the long-term consequences
* Break down goals into sub goals (Very known, but a life changing tip!!!)

I expected much more from a book with this title.
It basically gives a general definition of self-discipline and explains some points about why and how to use this power. There is no doubt that the topic is very important, but the way it is addressed in this book is not the best.
Finally, I found some good advice throughout the few pages.

i think this is " THE BOOK" to read for self discipline, it's short and clear.
what i like the most is that the auther doesnt do much talking
something i find very annoying when they start doing to much talk, making a big deal of little small ideas, long pointless texts ...

Felt like a summary/collection of a non writers notes on better books on self discipline/habit forming.

The information wasn’t wrong but it was poorly presented and barely backed up leading to a boring read lacking in nuance. Go read Atomic Habits or the Power of Habit instead.

Leidinys puikiai tinks, jei norisi pasitikrinti savo žinias apie discipliną, kontrolę ir gebėjimą siekti tikslų. Nieko naujo, nieko negirdėto, BET (!) viskas labai paprastai ir neapsakomai aiškiai!

Nice super tiny book on self-discipline. Which, like all other books like it, are only helpful insofar as you actually do it. One thing I thought was interesting/unique was to think through why you want to be self-disciplined in the first place, and what negative consequences would there be for not having it/remaining as you are, and use that for motivation.

One hilarious inconsistency was where, after spending the beginning of the book saying that self-discipline is what enables you to do things and stick to your commitments even when you don't feel like it, then he says that "studies have proven that you cannot really stay committed to anything if you don’t feel motivated to keep going." So I guess studies have shown that no one can have self-discipline, then. He also uses the phrase "studies show" like 10 times without ever citing a single individual study, but the rest of such phrases besides this particular one are pretty well-known at this point.

Anyway, I wanted a short something to help me be motivated, and that's what I got.

A short and sweet book on developing self discipline. A very good book for someone who doesnt like to read books but still want to avail benefits of reading a book on discipline. But as the book is short, the things are explained in a very specific manner and not much details are provided. It is not for someone who wants a detailed perspective on this topic. But its is an excellent book for adolescents who are going to face board exams , people not interested in reading thick books and just wants to a superficial look at the topic.
In all it was an interesting read.

Want to get self- disciplined ? Just get self- disciplined!
I mean thank god it’s only a 40 pages long book or else I would have been so bumped on why I wasted so much time on such a book.
She gives close to no actual instructions or information. The writing style is like a 15 year old trying to write a good mun speech. She used the word “for instance” maybe 20 times in just 4 pages. Like come onnnnnnn.
And thank you for telling us common sense that everyone already knows about. “Studies shows this” “studies shows that” well studies my ass.

Self Discipline by Curtis Leone may be a short read at just 33 pages, but it’s packed with valuable insights and practical advice. Despite its brevity, the book delivers powerful tips and strategies for anyone looking to improve their self-discipline and take control of their life. Leone’s straightforward approach makes the concepts easy to grasp and implement, making it a great resource for both beginners and those looking to reinforce their discipline skills. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to boost their productivity and achieve their goals.

The information is good and the points are clear, but for me it just seems like a bunch of notes from the book The Power Of Habit. The author even mentions the book in this one. I had no clue how short the book is (31 pages), so that came as a huge surprise. This book could have had a lot more potential, but it seems like half-an effort book; if you can call it that. Worth a read if you have 30 minutes to spare.

Approachable and attainable steps in cultivating self-discipline in yourself but somehow the narrative of procrastination is lacking in nuance.

There is more brain activity and psychological drive behind procrastination and this book fails to deliver in that sense.

Overall a good book nonetheless to master self-discipline but you as a reader will need more perspectives to understand the psychology behind procrastination; the biggest obstacle against self-discipline.

This books tells you everything you need to know about Self Discipline. It is a short and concise book that goes straight to the point.

It is helpful if you want to know everything about self-discipline.

If you need to improve your self-discipline, this book lacks the “Umph” to get you inspired enough to want to do those things.

This is a good book. It is short, concise, very straight to the point. I also love how it gives practical steps instead of pages and pages of information.

Although at some points I do wish there was more. But that doesn't really matter. If you are going to read this book then know what you are going to get in to. This book this is short and to the point.
