A prolific writer, Gideon who also writes as Dana Ransom and Lauren Giddings, attributes her creative output, which once peaked at seven novels in one year, to her love of history and a gift for storytelling. She also credits the discipline learned through a background in journalism and scheduling writing time around diaper changes, Scout meetings, band lessons and outings to the Zoo Boo...and, of course, OCD. The due date for her third book and her second son were on the same day...and both were early! When on deadline, she'd turn on the laptop between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. to get a chapter in before work.
While the pace is often hectic, Gideon, a Gemini, enjoys tackling diverse projects. One month it’s researching the gritty existence of 1880’s Texas Rangers only to jump to modern themes of intrigue and possibly a legal thriller or two. Then, it’s back to the shadowy netheworld of shape shifters, vampires and movie serial killers. When not working on her latest plot twist before sunrise, even now that she no longer works 9-5, she enjoys indulging in Netflix, hosting her critique group, and feeding all things fur, fin and fowl. And, of course, reading.

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Romance, Sci-fi and Fantasy
It wasn't until I was maybe a third into this book that I began to get That Feeling - you know, that idea that the characters are familiar, that you're read something about them. due to a crossover on publishing dates I'd failed to see I'd read book two ( but not book one). This story is set maybe 30-50 years later where Arabella, who wasn't a huge character in the last book, is now an old lady. I could see that rather than a book about a connected theme but with individual characters as I'd assumed ( similar to DB Reynolds Vampire series ), it was the characters that were connected. I'd read book two, found it an enjoyable story with some good characters but it failed to really connect with me. My issue completely, not the book, not all books suit all readers. If I'd realised that I'd have passed on this one. To my surprise though I really enjoyed this read, I felt much more familiar with the characters and enjoyed the light historical touches. The connecting thread really is Louis, Gerard and Bianca, and the old age story of passion, lust and jealousy. When that involves vampires of course it can cover generations given their potentially long lives. Bianca still want's Louis for herself, and now Arabella is reaching the end of her life she's back for another try. Of course there's the complication of Louis and Arabella's neighbour Cassie, who has her own difficulties managing her late fathers magazine. Alongside those two issues there's the murders plaguing the City... Its a story of passion and intrigue, of dangers and betrayals, and set in a gentle historical context with the restraints that the era places on single ladies. I surprised myself by enjoying it - its not a can't put down novel, but feeling I had a better knowledge of those involved I was drawn to the story and entertained to the end. Its not a story I'm likely to re read but is a series I'd like to follow to see how everything plays out.
Stars: Four, an enjoyable story with a historical touch.

Midnight Surrender is book 3 of the Midnight Series of historical vampire romance novels. It takes place after the events of the second book. The story centers around Louis and Arabella. Arabella is living out the last days of her life with Louis in New York. She spends the days preparing herself and Louis for her death, including finding a suitable companion for Louis to spend his life with once she's gone. Morbid, I know. Enter their neighbor and Arabella's friend, Cassie, an independent young woman coping with the the murder of her father and the responsibility of having to oversee the day to day business of his newspaper The Lexicon. Of course, Cassie is inexplicably attracted to Louis, so you can only imagine where that goes. In this book, the author plays the gender card, putting Cassie in situations where her position as a female is challenged by men. There's a series of murders occurring throughout the book and the victims look remarkably like Cassie. Being the woman she is, Cassie doesn't let this scare her, but puts herself in the path of danger to solve the mystery of who is conducting these heinous crimes. Cassie's a pretty complex character. Arabella left Louis with a handful. To me, Louis came across a little weak in this book. He and Arabella had this great love that stood the test of time and he was just able to fall in love and crawl into bed with Cassie like it was no big deal. It was really unexpected to me. I found part of the story a bit predictable. Bianca and Gerard make an appearance, with Bianca continuing her evil ways. Gerard just became more intriguing to me and I do hope the author wound up writing a book in the series about him (hadn't checked this at the time of this writing). Writing was still good. Romance wasn't too overdone. I'll probably keep going.
Love love love love!! Brilliant story. I absolute adore Louis. This was a very heart warming and emotional read. I have yet to read a book from Nancy and not get be spelled. Her words captivate you from beginning to end.
The story itself was well-structured. The book itself is a romance mystery novel with supernatural elements woven into it. I think my favorite character in this story was actually Arabella. Four Stars because it was well written.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
I have read the first 2 stories in this series and I was just as pleased with this book. You can't help but love Louis as he is not basically an evil man, even if he is a Vampire.
Louis and his Grandmother Arabella live next door to Cassie Alexander. Cassie and Bella have become friends over time so Cassie has spent time with Bella and Louis. Bella knows she doesn't have much time to live and wants Louis to not be alone. She feels Cassie would be a good match with Louis and has spoken to them both about it separately, encouraging a relationship after she is gone.
Cassie has just lost her father a few months ago. He has left her the family magazine and she works her fingers to the bones trying to keep it above water. Since she is a woman, that is also against her. Her Uncle is trying to get her to change the focus of the magazine but she refuses to let the magazine lose the integrity it has.. One night Cassie is attacked on her way home from work and Louis saves her. She ends up staying with Bella and Louis for a couple of days to recover.
Bella dies and Louis is heartbroken and angry. Bella extracted a promise from Louis and Cassie; he to protect Cassie and she to be there for Louis. Louis' house also burns down and he moves into Cassie's large home.
Someone is killing women and sending Cassie 'presents" and a note of where to find the body. Cassie does not go to the police at first, which is reporter coming out in her. She figures if she can solve the crime it will recuperate business with her magazine.
The killer continues to kill and send Cassie "presents" and life gets more dangerous for Cassie. Louis is grieving and angry but still attracted to Cassie which makes him even angrier.
Will Cassie and Louis survive a killer who has New York talking of Vampires in it;s hysteria?
It was nice to see some of the other characters return for even a short while. Louis' daughter Nicole, her husband Marchand and their daughter Frederica. Even the evilest of evil Bianca has come back, as has his old estranged friend Gerard.
It was very difficult to make this a real romance as Louis has just lost the love of his life. They hadn't had a physical relationship for many years but the emotional bindings were as strong as ever. He does like Cassie as a person besides the physical attraction.
Louis fights his grief and anger and as danger threatens to take Cassie from him, he realizes there is a future for them.
I would love to see Gerard have a story, he needs a strong woman to show him how wonderful a man he can be.
I look forward to another "Midnight" story from Nancy.
I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. This is book three in the 'Midnight" Series. I would say that it is beneficial to read the previous book.. I think it will help you with this book. Cassie Alexander is a ambitious publisher who is looking to solve some murders that have been going on. One that has killed her father and left her with the paper to run. Then she meets Louis Radcliffe and she is quickly drawn to him. So starts their story of finding love and all that has to come to get their story.
Book 3 in her Vampire Romance Series. My favorite of all of them so far, better than the first one (in my opinion), so it really has 4 1/2 stars (5 stars only go to the best books of all time!- at least for my ratings)
