Tenzin is one of my favorite characters from the Elemental Mysteries Series and I was so happy that I could get more about her in this novella.

Here is where we are told how her life as a vampire began…..
“A long time ago,” she started, “there was a girl…”
A young girl, a young mother taken as a slave, abused and brutalized in the most violent way. Her descent into darkness and madness and the retribution she takes on her torturers, before becoming one of the fiercest and dangerous warriors that the immortal world has ever seen.
“I am darkness.”
“You were.” Nima took a deep, rattling breath. “But I see light for you now.
I liked this addition to this great series but just wanted a bit more of her story in the present.
I would love to read a full length book on her and see her finding love and happiness with someone.

Tenzin is one of the most enigmatic characters of the series; her history and especially the story of her making were only ever alluded to before, and this novella is a true treat for the fans. Chilling and violent, The Bronze Blade is a dark tale.
Reading it, I was both anxious and anguished, even though I knew Tenzin will persevere. What did you think K.?

Mesmerizing. Tenzin has always been an absolutely fascinating character, - I expected something extraordinary in her back story, and as usual Elizabeth did not disappoint.
Like Vika said, The Bronze Blade is dark, brutal and chilling. It follows a young girl's capture, her losses and her turning. It talks about her everyday torments and the sharpening of her will; it gifts us with her vengeance, weariness and wisdom. It starts with a bronze blade and it ends with one.
For such a short story, it's woven beautifully and it feels complete, and the reader feels empathy to the main heroine's metamorphosis from the beginning to its end, from Saraal to Aday and at last to her present day's name - Tenzin.

Tenzin had a rough start to her immortal life but I think this story makes a wonderful character study and the reader gets a great insight into Tenzin's character. From her short human life and separation from her kids, to the years of abuse she experienced at the hands of the fellow Sida, to her revenge, then a reluctant truth with her maker and of course her place at the Penglai Island. She is truly a warrior and a survivor.
I enjoyed this short glimpse and would definitely look forward to more. I'm sure Tenzin has an arsenal of great stories from her very long and fascinating life. So it's 5 stars for me!

I read this book yesterday and finished it this morning and I was blown away with the story all together. Ms. Hunter tapped into a serious serious dark place that no one has discovered about our little beloved " Bird Girl" As Gio would call her. THis story was sooo good. And made me tear a little... No correction A lot. It does make a lot of sense why Tenzin is the way she is and how she acts. All I have to say she has a lot of wisdom and is wise and mighty. When I made it to the end reading it. I was so sad reading how Tenzin came to be but it was a bit of poetic justice a bitter sweet symphony I would say. The story is worth the read. It really is. Tenzin is my girl and she kills with a purpose. Rock on Tenzin. love you always Bird Girl. I am not going to say anymore but if you haven't read any of Elizabeth Hunter's books... Get on it right this minute and do it. You will not be disappointed I promise you.

I knew the highlights of Tenzin's story from the Elemental Mysteries, so I knew this was not going to be light easy short story. But it is worth the read. I came to understand more of how Tenzin is the way she is, but also am amazed and impressed at how far she has really come.

I absolutely loved the Elemental World series. All of the characters, all of the stories, just suck me in and didn't let go until the very last word in the very last book. When I saw that Tenzin was going to have her own story, I could not wait for it to be released. I read it within two hours. The fact that it was a short story is not what really bothers me. You get to see a very brief part of Tenzin's life prior to her becoming Sida. You have this great buildup in the story while she's learning to be Sida. You will learn the horrors of what she went through. There is action, anxiety, emotional involvement and then BAM, fizzle, The End. I can't really give you much more information without spoiling the story. Because seriously, this is a really short story and anything being said would ruin it.
As for recommending it, I will say yes because it gives you an insight inside Tenzin. However, don't go into reading this expecting a full satisfactory meal. Because you will be disappointed.

If you are already a fan of Hunter’s Elemental Mysteries, you will develop more of an appreciation for Tenzin, without a doubt. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself angry, maybe on the verge of tears. I had such a visceral reaction to this book, and I don’t know if it’s because I feel such a connection to Tenzin’s character, or if it’s just because Hunter is that damn good at creating a world that draws you into its depths. I have the feeling it’s both.
The Bronze Blade is not an easy read. It’s not a fast read. I’m someone who can sit and read happily for hours, but I had to take a few breaks in the reading of this book.
That is not a bad thing.
This book is full of darkness and violence. Abuse. Loss. Desperation. It stays with you. I found myself envisioning a few of the scenes long after I had finished reading. And, knowing what I know now, I know I’ll now look at every action Tenzin takes, as well as the ones she doesn’t take, in a new light.

This has been on my TBR pile for ages. I knew it was going to be sad with triggers galore. It' didn't disappoint. Tenzin's story is heart breaking, it's easier to understand her quirks and phobias.

I love Tenzin. Tenzin is a " kick-ass & f*uck whatever your name is " kind of woman. And we so very very verrrrry need more of unapologetically bad ass chicks in literature. This novella gives us her back story and helps us understand a little bit more how Tenzin came to be as detached as she is.

I have been following this series and the original from the start, eagerly anticipating this story since Tenzin was first introduced. Tenzin's character is intense yet occasionally possesses a sweet quality that made me desperately curious to discover the origins of her persona. This narrative offers a brief, yet profound glimpse into the events that molded Tenzin into who she ultimately became. It is an extremely violent tale, riddled with various forms of abuse. However, I could perceive how her experiences forged her worldview. This story provided exactly what I needed to comprehend her character.
Tenzin's life began in the distant past, within a land akin to many others—hostile, where existence was fleeting and savage. Having lost her partner and child, she was accepted as a consort by a powerful man and his spouse. While she did not measure her life by happiness, she found contentment in her circumstances until one fateful night when she was seized by men who were more than mere mortals. That event altered her life irrevocably, subjecting her to mental and physical abuse far beyond what she could have tolerated without undergoing certain transformations. Tenzin endured and emerged as a warrior, more formidable than many of her male contemporaries.
For those who have relished the Elemental Mysteries or other novels from the Elemental World series, this book is indispensable. The 'bird girl' at last has her tale unveiled, albeit for a melancholic reason.

I've been reading the prequel novellas in the Elemental Legacy series, so I thought I'd go back and revisit Tenzin's back story. It's a good one. I wanted to compare it to where she is now, and I'm glad I did. It's a quick read and really does explain a lot about this curious wind vampire.

This would be my favourite Elemental World story in that it is Tenzin's back story rather than a straight romance. However, I'm not totally convinced by the need for such a high level of sexual violence. I know it's there to justify Tenzin's action but tortured-soul-turned-warrior trope does get a little tiresome (reminds me of some of the Black Dagger Brotherhood plotlines). Still it is a change from Elizabeth Hunter's other narratives so in general terms the change in style should be applauded, and I do like Tenzin.

Oh Tenzin. You are a powerhouse. So singular and strong, yet a delicate broken bird. What she goes through in her origin story gave me nightmares. So much loss and terror. But she created herself anew. She turned into a diamond under the pressure and finally soared on the wind. Free. I have never been so happy for bloodshed as I was when she finally took up her Bronze Blade. If you are a fan of Tenzin, you absolutely NEED to read this. You need to know the WHY behind who she is and how she acts. Though hard to read because it will effect your heart, it’s worth every agonizing word.

I have read this novella twice now. It makes you cringe and cry. The main character Tenzin, is one of my favorite female characters ever, she was originally introduced in the Elemental Mysteries series. (which is on my yearly re-read list some people do Christmas Hallmark movies, I do Elizabeth Hunter books) She is strength, insanity and resilience personified. This book is a backstory that is definitely necessary to read to understand the complexity of this wonder character in the Elemental Legacy series. I can not recommend the WHOLE series enough. I have actually bought numerous people the Elemental Mysteries series and have dragged them willing down the Elemental series and it spinoffs rabbit hole. If you are having any hesitation about starting this reading voyage, don’t. Do yourself a favor and start immediately. You will not regret it!

I was excited to read Tenzin's horrific story, just to know why she is the way she is. The story was good but it ended a little too abruptly to be a 5 star rating. I was still left with unanswered questions. I knew it was a Novella when I bought it, but still held out hope for more of a story than what I got.
Update: I have re-read this book twice because I needed to remember a few details while reading the Benzin books. I still loved this book and now see that some of the questions I still had were answered in those later stories.

After reading Dawn's Caravan, I needed to go back to Tenzin's origin story. She is such a complex character. The Elemental Legacy series peals back her layers a little at a time. Re-reading this novella gives you a better perspective. Original review below still stands.

Amazingly done, heart wrenching story. Luckily I have read all the previous books so I know how Tenzin turns out, that's what kept me reading. The things that she went through.... It was good to hear Tenzin's story - as dark and painful as it was - finally. It explains a lot about who she is and why she is the way she is.

Elemental World #2.5
The Bronze Blade by Elizabeth Hunter was an excellent addition to her Elemental vampires universe! I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Tenzin and Elizaberth's Elemental World, Elemental Mysteries and Elemental Legacy series. But even more important, as Elizabeth put in her dedication, I recommend this book to "Everyone Who Has Survived". This book is not a happy story by any stretch of the imagination, but it does give us an amazing insight into Tenzin and spells out her origin story in all of its gruesome detail.
This should NOT be the first story that you read in the Elemental vampire universe, but if you are a fan of these series, "The Bronze Blade" is a must. And if you are not a fan, then I'm sure it's because you haven't read them.
The Elemental World series is the second series set in the Elemental Universe, which also includes the Elemental Mysteries, Elemental Legacy and Elemental Covenant series’. I highly recommend reading all four series if you would like to get the most enjoyment out of this extraordinary universe. Most of the characters that have been written about in the Elemental World series were first introduced to us in the Elemental Mysteries series, but you will also find them sprinkled throughout the Elemental Legacy & Elemental Covenant series. The Bronze Blade by Elizabeth Hunter was an excellent addition to her Elemental vampires universe! I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Tenzin and Elizaberth's Elemental World, Elemental Mysteries and Elemental Legacy series. But even more important, as Elizabeth put in her dedication, I recommend this book to "Everyone Who Has Survived". This book is not a happy story by any stretch of the imagination, but it does give us an amazing insight into Tenzin and spells out her origin story in all of its gruesome detail.
This should NOT be the first story that you read in the Elemental vampire universe, but if you are a fan of these series, "The Bronze Blade" is a must. And if you are not a fan, then I'm sure it's because you haven't read them.
The Elemental World series is the second series set in the Elemental Universe, which also includes the Elemental Mysteries, Elemental Legacy and Elemental Covenant series’. I highly recommend reading all four series if you would like to get the most enjoyment out of this extraordinary universe. Most of the characters that have been written about in the Elemental World series were first introduced to us in the Elemental Mysteries series, but you will also find them sprinkled throughout the Elemental Legacy & Elemental Covenant series. Below you will find my preferred reading order for this very addictive universe.

Review- I'm not convinced by this series/world. I read A Hidden Fire then mistakenly read Blood and Sand thinking it was book two. Both were okay, but what was interesting was that I didn't even realise they weren't in the same series. Same world though. But I think it says something that if I can't recall who or what occurred in book one when I start book two, then you've written something forgettable (and I can recall most books). This was OK. Better than the other books I've read by this author, but this might be down to the fact that it's only 101 pages. Personally, if you want to read a good vampire story try Anne Rice, Charlaine Harris or even, Deborah Harkness first.

A Powerful Story Of Survival
This is the story I think we have all been wondering about, how Tenzin came to be. As her long time companion takes her last breaths, Tenzin tells her a story of a young girl.
This is a story of survival. How she survived the kidnapping, the turning, the abuse from her sires children, the ensuing madness and the revenge. All of this she endured for many many years. She finally rests in a mountain cave to become a legend.
This is a heart wrenching telling of Tenzin's early life. It's a wonder she survived at all with her mind intact. It kind of explains why she is the way she is. My only gripe, is that it was very short, because as we know, Tenzin is very old.
The whole time I was reading this, I was feeling for her and wondering when she was going to take her retribution. I can't say I enjoyed this story, because it's not a tale to be enjoyed. It is a story to be read to try and understand Tenzin and her ways. It is very well written, and I would whole-heartedly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed.

This was hard to read. Not because of writing style or mispellings. But a character that we've grown to love and care for was treated so badly. Tenzin's early life was horrific and chilling. It's a wonder that she didn't just walk into the sun to end it all. This novella helps us, as the reader, understand Tenzin a little better. Well, about as much as is possible.
And having this back story is a nice touch since we'll be seeing more of this enigmatic character in future books. Tenzin doesn't explain anything or open up much, so it would be easy to see her as cold, heartless, and annoying to read. But having this as a foundation for future novels really enriches the experience for the reader. We KNOW her better than some of the people she interacts with in future novels, so we'll allow that crazy behavior.

For all that I love Tenzin as a character, and for all that I'd been hanging out to read her story, I didn't enjoy this instalment as much as I'd thought I would.
The other Elemental World novellas have all been richly characterised - one building on the next which then built on the next. This one may have given me a sense of the horrors that formed Tenzin, but I never really got a sense of *her* in the POV character.
It basically feels like an origin story that fills in some blanks, rather than the chance to hang out and spend some time with Tenzin that I was looking forward to. I don't think it's a bad story, but it's just not the one I was hoping to read.

I would have loved to give Tenzin's origin story more stars. We knew some of her brutal origin story from The Force of Wind, so I was expecting the horrors. My main issue is there's a beginning, her transition to her Sida life, there's a middle, all the awful stuff, and then it just kind of ends. I didn't get the feeling that the tortured girl ever really transitions into Tenzin, she just goes from horribly tortured to Tenzin, one of the most feared warriors in the world.
I was very glad that the there was no gratuitous violence and everything was handled well.

Very well written. You feel like Tenzin is telling you story and she keeps you looking in, even as you explore her past with her. Sometimes that can result in a disconnect, but considering Tenzin's past it is the best way to understand and follow. It let's you see the whole story.
I loved to read it, even though it was incredibly sad in so many ways. I adore Tenzin.
My husband apparently walked in on me reading and mumbling aloud: "Well, that's it. He has to die now..." Luckily he knows me well and just shakes his head at my antics, but he did note he was glad to be the one encountering me and not one of our friends. What can I say...the story draws you in.

Although this historical entry in the series might be too dark for many, I understand the need of it completely.
Tenzin lived through horrors unimaginable and certainly unsurvivable by most. There is no question in my mind of why she did what she did, in fact I understand completely and agree with her actions.
I can recommend this book, not only as a work of fiction, but as a teaching tool for all genders.
Damage of psyche is oftentimes much worse than the physical, for although a body may heal the memory will live on forever, no matter what one does to hide it, it will always be a part of the whole.
