Anglų rašytojos S. Glover knygoje pasakojama apie asocialioje šeimoje augusios blogos mergaitės Aleks, vėliau pavadintos Džoze, nelengvą atgailos kelią į dorą.
If you like books with twist endings, this is the book for you! In fact, I think that the book description provided by Goodreads already takes away from the excitement of the book's twist ending.
Because I was struggling to finish some books this year, I decided to revisit an old author, whose books I was a big fan of in my tween years. Now that I'm older, Sandra Glover books still wait in the library shelves for me to read once again. I had started 'You' a while ago, but due to exams and stress I couldn't get myself to finish it. I started and stayed on the first few pages. Then, I came back to finally complete the book. I borrowed it and carried it around. My friend noticed my library book and said, "Oh I love Sandra Glover books too!" (A nice surprise really, since I didn't know a lot of people read her books). Anyway, 'You' was really interesting, yet different from her other books. This book covers an identity crisis that the lead of this story has, despite being a girl in her young adult years. She keeps recalling an 'Alex' in her past, forcing her to reckon with a painful back then, wherein good memories fight for air. The twist was insane, I kept questioning what the darkness that loomed within her mind was, who 'Alex' truly was, until it all unravels and resolves in the end. Truthfully, I'll admit I wished the author put a trigger warning in the beginning, since it did have dark themes which may be triggering for readers of many ages. The edition I had didn't really have that, and it was really difficult to read that part (resulting in the one star loss) but overall, it's a great book. If you can't read books with themes like mental health issues, self-harm, etc, I suggest you don't read this book and read something else. Sandra Glover books are usually thrillers, mysteries, sci-fi, paranormal, etc, and they're very easy to read for YA books. They had me at the edge of my seat when I was 13, and now as an adult. 'The Girl Who Knew' is definitely still my favourite mystery/thriller, and I'd recommend if you love these types of books. (Trigger warning though: That book does have abuse).
