This is the first book I've read from this author, and I'm looking forward to to reading more. It didn't wow me but it satisfied my craving for an easy to read, sexty romance with a solid HEA.

If you don't want a mild spoiler don't read this review.

Miss innocent who has had little, done too little and stuck in insecurity land due to her lack of sexual experience longs for a "real man" to rock her world and erase everything she regrets for her except when she decides to say the hell with scruples until reality catches up to her and she gets more than she bargained for.

It cracks me up how Lydia gets stuck in neutral demands all of Jake's time and can't deal with any of the slightest doubt yet when confronted by his baby mama shes all for it and uppity with it all. She loves how he's a total 'bad boy' and preset for sex yet she cant even say the word because of how innocent she is.

The story and the characters go from sincere to silly quite often which can get distracting at times but there's moments that kind of balance those periods out because there is actual heart at the center of it all and really it boils down to Jake's daughter.

The baby mama drama and Lydia accepting that Jake has priorities that are outside of her got a little old and a little annoying after awhile but is their hurdle to over come in order for them to find a middle ground in their new relationship.

There are certain lines and moments I really loved that really spoke honestly about what Jake and Lydia were going through but a lot of it didn't really feel organic to everything that was going on.

That all aside I kind of really liked this story but I wish we had gotten a more visceral honest exploration of how traumatic Lydia's loss was on her and how much Jake felt becoming a father was for him.

Wishing For Us: A Danvers Novel by Sydney Landon
Lydia & Jake
EMOTIONAL, PROFOUND, AND SEXY
5 Stars

So, word on the street is this is our last Danver's novel... Booo Hissssss... What am I gonna do with out the Danver girls and oh those sexier than sin Danver's men? I tell you what... I'm gonna wait patiently for a possible spin-off from this scrumptious series.

This book is much like it's predecessors only I feel it has a tinge more emotion than the others. We're dealing with a death, an impromptu marriage, and a shit load of angst and humor that you'll swear you just lost your heart to another Danver's hottie.

When Lydia wakes up in Vegas next to Jacob "Hottie" Hays all hell breaks loose. She yells at him, tries to kick him out of his own hotel room, and then pukes her brains out all while being naked as a jaybird. So. Damn Funny. Jacob (Jake) is all kinds of sympathetic, but he has ulterior motives and I'm not sure you're going to like them.

Jake has a past. A past he needs to share with his new wife. When he lays it on the line, will Lydia run, file for divorce, or run with it and be all that she can be for her insta husband and his situation?

The supporting character cast is enormous. All the peeps from Danvers International and the DeSoto Group... holy hotties.... Those women are so freaking hilarious and the mouths on these women would put a truck stop to shame. I absolutely loved that little Casey and her "ramps."

Well, I sat with this one for a while cause seriously folks, I don't want to see the Danvers end. I have been a fan of this series since Claire popped out of that cake in Weekends Required. The characters are excellent, the dialogue flows with elegance, and the pacing is just right. This series is one that will stick with me for a long time.

I'm a little bit of a sucker for a randomly-married-in-Vegas story. Not entirely sure why, but I can't seem to say no to them, which is how I ended up reading book nine in a series...

Not that it was too much of a problem. Wishing For Us might be what seems to be the last in a long (and seemingly fun) series, but as an introduction to the Danvers crew, it worked just fine. Admittedly, I felt a touch overwhelmed at times trying to make all the connections, but once I set that aside, what I was left with was a group of funny and fabulous women, and a friendship circle that made me smile and chuckle.

A lot. Actually, I smiled and laughed throughout this whole book. Because it was adorable. I enjoyed it from the first page, and despite a couple of predictable moments, and a small misgiving about the characterization of Casey, I was engaged through to the swoony epilogue. Because Jacob and Lydia were sweet and completely likeable. And also, sexy.

Their chemistry was on-point, and I appreciated that there wasn't too much silly or needless miscommunication. It made for an easy and quick read—one with a light-hearted feel, and one that left me pleased to have found a new author I can enjoy. Starting with book one next time... ~ Beth, 4 Stars

I really liked that Lydia could make her man come undone, “I swear, baby, you need to stop whatever you’re thinking because you’re killing me,” Jake said roughly." I loved this book, I loved Jake, he was caring, sweet and a total animal in the bedroom.

This is a fun light romance that I couldn’t put down. I liked Lydia and Jacob immediately, not to mention the entertaining people around them. They had a screwed up beginning to their relationship, so it was fun watching them navigate around each other. I wanted to bop one of them upside the head a few times for doing something stupid, but that was all a part of them finding their happily-ever-after. I truly enjoyed this sexy little romance.

Oh boy Lydia woke up in a different hotel room to find out she and Jake Hay are married, like Vegas married. It seems she and Jake got drunk and after complaining to each other about their lives they decided the fix all would be to get married. Now you would think they would just get it annulled but Jake explained he needs her because his daughters mother wants to get married or way more child support so if Jake shows he is married it would help him get dual custody. After meeting his daughter Casey Lydia doesn't want to get an annulment but is she prepared for everything that comes with it? Lydia had lost the love of her life to cancer three years ago and has been barely living but Jake has given her a reason to. It was cute to read them navigating the waters of their relationship and Jake was good to see both sides and Lydia was strong in her dealings with her deceased boyfriend and her unsure marriage.

Not to bad of a book but romance novels are just not my thing. This one sounded good so I thought I'd give a read just to try something new. The reason I'm giving this book two stars is I found myself being irritated by a lot of the stuff in it, I didn't like most of the characters and most of the storyline. I will say it was a very quick easy read and even though it's the 9th in the series you can maybe get away with not reading the other ones if you just want to read this one, though it does mention all of the previous characters in it. Like I said romance novels are just not for me I just thought I would give it one more try, but if you are a fan of contemporary romance this might be a good book series for you.

I have to say I have been on a streak of random drunken marriages in Las Vegas! I find them totally irresistible! Like The Hangover or What Happens In Vegas, I want to unravel the mystery as to what happened!

This was the first of this Danvers series that I have read- book nine, I know! But I really didn't have any issues not having read the previous books. Yes I found that all the people from the previous books needed to be sorted as such, I figured it out, and now I wish to read their stories as well! The strong friendships seem to be the backbone, and that's intriguing to me!

Wishing For Us is a book that was just adorable! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! I was smiling more often than not and I loved it! Jacob and Lydia are two characters that I liked! They were totally relatable and I could see me wanting to be their friend. They had a chemistry that you could easily feel. They just clicked! I liked not having any angsty-ness. There is usually some obstacle to overcome etc., etc., etc. I liked seeing how they were going to work through their hasty decision and the ramifications of it.

Lydia woke up in Jake's room hungover and married. Apparently after commiserating about the state of their lives, they rationed a quick fix was to get married. I think it was hard to believe marriage was the fix to their problems, but given their drunken state, anything is possible. You would think that when sober heads returned, they would just get the marriage dissolved. But Jake wants to use this turn of events to his advantage. You see his baby momma wants to marry him in the worst way, and although he wants custody of his daughter, he doesn't want to marry her mother. This might be the best thing to happen to him-if he can get Lydia to agree to stay married. Lydia meets Casey-his daughter and wants to help Jake out. Since she lost her fiancé to cancer a few years earlier, she's barely been holding on. Jake, and his daughter, give her a reason to live and to help! She was stronger than she gave herself credit for and now it's time to start living a life she deserves to have and if she can help Jake along the way-better for it!

I would highly recommend Wishing For Us by Sydney Landon and I am sure the entire Danvers series. It's a nice, enjoyable, and sweet read with just enough storyline to keep you interested till the end!

I really like how each book in the Danvers series can be read as a standalone, although it does make you crave the details of each of the characters individual stories when they are referenced within the narrative.

I am not going to go into details as to how and where we have been introduced to Lydia and Jacob previously as it would involve trying to untangle the web of interactions the series is based on; I will say that both Jacob and Lydia have an important place within the social group formed from the employees within Danvers.

Lydia has lost herself to grief over the past three years following the death of her fiancée to cancer. Losing her dreams of the future, Lydia basically shuts down, her lack of interest in the opposite sex translates itself in her mind to their lack of interest in her. That is until she crosses paths with Jacob Hay and the spark of lust re-ignites.

Jacob has his own issues, dealing with a toxic ex and a six-year-old daughter who he loves beyond measure. Willing to do anything to ensure his presence in his daughter's life, Jacob jumps at the opportunity when it knocks even though his judgement may be wearing alcohol coloured glasses ;) Resulting in an unusual marriage in Vegas and a surprising connection between Jacob and Lydia.
Lydia is a wonderfully compassionate person and willingly goes along with Jacob's plans and their marriage to ensure the continued access to his daughter. Jacob and Lydia soon fall into an easy pattern and added benefits ;) However, Lydia's insecurities hamper her view of the situation while her emotions can't help but entwine with Jacob's. While Jacob is more than content with the situation he isn't quite ready to examine his own growing feelings to Lydia, creating additional tension and problems for them both.

The previous characters in the series all make an appearance and help the new couple navigate the tricky situation they find themselves in. I loved the friendships and the bonds that connect all of these characters together - it is a warm and fuzzy inducing support system with a lot of sex talk ;)

Wishing for Us is a wonderfully sweet romance, showing your dreams can come true in the most unlikeliest of circumstances.

Lydia Cross wasn't looking for love. After not being able to walk down the isle with the love of her life, she can't bare to put herself out there. That is until sexy Jacob Hay walks into her life, well
okay her fantasies. Not that it's going to happen mind you, he usually doesn't even look her way. So how would he know that she wants him? Well....she wakes up in Vegas married to him of course. Wait...what? This isn't real! Is it?
Oh it's real all right. Now he just has to convince his new wife that she doesn't really want an annulment or divorce. My secret may just make her run for the hills, but somehow I have to convince her how much I need her. She's smart, funny, sassy and beautiful, so maybe I didn't think this through entirely. What happens when its all over? Jacob Hay, you may just have screwed up.

My take....
I cannot think of a better way to have a series end-besides it not end- than with Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hay. Sydney Landon captured two souls that were looking for each other and she made them find one another. Lydia Cross is sassy, funny, and she definitely keeps Jacob on his toes. She agrees to help him with something-no I'm not saying what- and he has to remember that he's the one that put her in that situation. Jacob is not only sexy, but he's sweet and genuine. of course you couldn't have a Danver's novel without the other fabulous Danver women. The range of emotions in these pages are so strong and meaningful that it will make even the strongest of people know that someone out there loves them.
What a beautiful ending to a beautiful series. I laughed -a lot, I might have choked up a bit-Suzy, and I might have cussed a little -Chris, but what I didn't do was regret picking up this book. Sydney Landon brought what she always does and that was a whole lot of awesomeness to these pages. The closure to all the woman and what they mean to each other and how strong they all are. I applaud this delightful woman's words, emotions and thoughts. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

Review by Elizabeth Swain @ White Hot Reads

The Danvers Series is a long time favorite of mine. Since Jason and Claire’s first story in Weekends Required I have been hooked. This crazy bunch of women have left me laughing, crying and emotional. I truly am sad but enjoyed reading this last Novel in the Danvers series.

Lydia and Jacob’s story comes together in Wishing for Us. Lydia has nothing in her live but the day to day bump and grind and her friends; so why does wake up in a Vegas hotel married to the smoking hot Jacob Hay? She has been lusting over him for months and now she is married to him. After three years of grieving the death of her fiance; does she take the leap and stay? Does she hold onto him and what she feels for this beautiful man? Is she ready for all that is in his life as well? No person comes without baggage, can they both weather each others?

The beautiful Lydia has not left Jacob’s mind or radar since changing her tire for her, now she is his wife. Even though this woman is giving him an out, he doesn’t want it. He needs her by his side. She is easily becoming everything to him. Can love grow from attraction? Can they build a lasting marriage once they learn everything about each other? Can this marriage be more than the lust and hot sex that they have found in each other? Can he allow her to become the person to whom he leans on in the tough times? Only time will tell.

Don’t worry you will get the closure on all the Danvers stories in Wishing for Us. More babies, marriages, crazy sex talk and more witty commentary from the beloved Suzy. Thou Mia is becoming a fast Favorite for me as well. Laugh and cry to the final novel in the Danvers Series.

A person's ability to expose themselves in their weakest moments is a sign of true character. Perhaps that's what I enjoy most about Ms. Landon as an author. Her knack of humanizing moments of triumph, heartache and showing how some of life's worst moments can become the most rewarding. I received a copy of Wishing for Us in exchange for an honest review. I'm bummed that I discovered the Danvers almost too late. Their devotion to each other whether family or friend is uplifting and the sparks they set off as they find love is irresistible. Jacob's wake - up call came in the form of a trip to Sin City. A trip to Vegas brings a tempting opportunity for a woman afraid to risk her heart and maybe the love of a lifetime for two surprise spouses. The beauty of getting to the end, is that there is always a chance to start over again.

Another wonderful read

Sydney Landon simply doesn't know how to write a bad book. Once again, in Wishing For Us, Landon penned a moving, captivating read. I didn't want to put the book down.

I adored Lydia and Jacob's slow but sizzling steps to love, but also thoroughly loved being immersed in the Danvers' world. One of my favorite spots came right at the end when I had the pleasure to glance at the amazing couples Landon had created. It feels like yesterday since I first read Weekends Required and began a wonderful journey into their world. Through Landon's mastery, they've become dear to my heart. I can't say goodbye yet, so am going back to the beginning.

If this is your first foray into Sydney Landon's writing, don't make it your last. A stunning journey awaits.

Say it isn't so

This is a bittersweet review. This is the final book in the Danvers series. This is Jake and Lydia. They were thrown together by u usual circumstances at least so they both thought. Unknown to each other they both harbored feelings. She knew more about her feelings then he did. He didn't know what he was feeling as he had never felt this before. Now throw in a baby mama with lots of drama and you are off. Will Jacob figure out what he wants before he looses it? Will Lydia be able to stand her ground and fight for her man and show him what he has? Not only do we get this fantastic story we get a final update on all the characters ...The only disappointment in this book is it is the last one

I absolutely love this series and I am sad this was the final installment to the Danvers series.

This story is based on Lydia Cross and Jacob Hay and yet again, Sydney didn't disappoint me. At various times you will find yourself laughing and frustrated at the characters, but still loving the story/series. Please note all books are stand-alone, but for your reading enjoying, I would highly recommend you read them in order. Do yourself a massive favour and read this amazing series, you won't regret it.

I loved this book from start to finish! Although this book is a part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.
Lydia lost her fiancé to cancer and vows to never love again. Until waking up in a strange hotel room finding herself married to her crush Jacob.
Wishing For Us is full of fun, humor, love, an annoying baby mama, and the cutest 6 year old ever.
The writing is great and the story flowed seamlessly. Told in both Lydia and Jake's POV.

It's just a book telling you the daily, affairs that bought u a child without marriage, lost your half because the cancer, then a drunk night to getting marry.

Some family are close some didn't. Ex was trouble n too many step family members.

This is the world we are living. Will it get better? Will it get worse? Wherever n whenever you are, I do have the feeling that everyone are suffered, because the lost, the broken family.

I think of this as a category romance type read. I had 5 issues with this book: inconsistent characterization of the hero, an egregious plot moppet, the heroine slut shaming the hero about his sexual history, the "the other woman is jerk/slut/bitch" trope, and unrealistic girl talk. I really like this set of tropes, however, so I still enjoyed the book alright on a page to page level. It just doesn't hold up to any kind of further reflection.

I love Sydney Landon as an author but Wishing for Us honestly wasn’t her best work. Essentially what the story boiled down to was baby mama drama and soap opera nonsense. I didn’t necessarily hate Wishing for Us but I found it pretty lackluster. In all fairness it did have its moments where the comedic aspects shined but at the end I find that I’m more filled with “meh” over it than anything else.
/

This felt like a rough draft where there was going to be a lot more story put in to allow the characters to develop and for the action to build into something fascinating. Right now it’s just a sack of boring. There wasn’t any one moment that was so super exciting where I really didn’t know what to expect. It was just two people awkwardly dating. I think there were lots of opportunities for some fun and they weren’t utilized. For example: the scene where Chris breaks Jake’s phone in a rage would have been something I would have really wanted to see. As it is, we just hear about it later and we never actually see it. WHY WOULDN’T WE SEE IT HAPPEN? Another prime example would be when Lydia wakes up in Vegas married to Jake, her sexy man crush, and… nothing really entertaining happens. Like the next chapter they had been home for a few days and hadn’t even talked to each other. We just skipped over all that time where there could have lots of hilarious moments between the two of them. We just rushed into events that moved the story forward and then moved on again without exploring them. I guess it was the matter of fact-ness of everything hindered me from connecting to the characters. As it stands at the moment, I’m pretty indifferent to them. Like I wanted them to have a HEA but these aren’t characters I’m going to find myself thinking about again.

For a story so ordinary the characters became caricatures of themselves. No group of women comes together and solely discusses sex and their respective man’s penis size. Is there nothing else going on in the entire world outside of their love lives? That just doesn’t happen. It’s stupid and I think it betrays their relationships. I could handle the relationship and sex talk if it was just between maybe three women or so but having a group of TEN women who know everything about each other’s sex lives and walk around like a bunch of horn dogs constantly is bizarre. Women talk about other stuff too! The fact that they don’t in Wishing for Us seems entirely unrealistic.
/

On a side note there were also continuity errors in here that a good editor should have found immediately! Like there is a scene involving a Spaghetti dinner where it specifically says Lydia is wearing a tank top and yoga pants. Then when the sexy times start during said spaghetti dinner it says she’s wearing a blouse and slacks. I’m assuming the spaghetti scene was amalgamated together from a couple of different scenes in a previous draft. But still, that’s a pretty obvious continuity error to miss. A good editor is hard to find!

The Danvers series was my secret gem of romantic comedies. No Denying You is one of my all-time favorite romantic comedies and arguably the best work in the series. But I think Danvers peaked there. After No Denying You the series started to dwindle in quality. I guess the real question is whether I would read another book in this world (there’s a preview chapter at the end of this that hints at a spinoff series) with how I currently feel about the series. Sigh… Yes, I think I still would. I’m in it for the long haul. So please Sydney Landon, bring back the magic you had in the beginning of the series! I know you can do it!

Who knew the corporate world could be stocked by beautiful women and strong men straight out of "Sex and the City"? All in one corporate headquarters. Explicit sex in almost every chapter. What couple can eat dinner without going to bed first? Plenty of conflict and second guessing. What does a woman want? No mysteries here.

It was a good book with a different premise than the others in the series. I liked how we got updated on all the other characters. The women are portrayed as very vocal about their men. It was definitely the end of the series though as the book ends on a montage of the couples.
