H.K. Varian has always loved reading about ancient mythology, ruins, and magic. Though H.K. once dreamed of having awesome powers like in Changers, writing became kind of like magic in and of itself. Today H.K. lives, writes, and has adventures in Pittsburgh, though most of them don’t involve battling warlocks, storming castles, or retrieving enchanted objects.

We get a new point of view from Darren as he deals with the knowledge that his parents are getting a divorce. I read this one out of order, but only missed a couple of things to connect to the next book in the series. We are introduced to more Changers with a naga, a puca, and a phoenix, showing the author has done his research. The missing piece from this novel is how Auden Ironbound used the younglings' power to fix the Horn of Power in order to use it on them in the next novel.
