Naughty Mabel’s back, darlings, and this time she’s causing double the trouble as she starts seeing things no one else can in this charmingly hilarious follow-up to Naughty Mabel from film and Broadway star Nathan Lane (of The Lion King and The Producers fame) and Devlin Elliott!
Mabel’s back and now it’s her turn to party. Slumber party that is! Mabel’s best friends Smarty Cat and Scaredy Cat have invited her over for a sleepover, could there be anything more divine?
There’s only one thing that could ruin such a sensational monsters! They’re everywhere she looks, and sometimes she even sees two at once!
But these silly monsters don’t know who they’re dealing with. Mabel’s not afraid. She’s just going to have to put her naughty behavior to good use to save Smarty and Scaredy. Problem is, the monsters aren’t the only things that seem to be multiplying. Mabel seems to be seeing two of everything . Are there really monsters? Or is there something more going on? As in is it time for Mabel to get...glasses?
Naughty Mabel, the misbehaving French bulldog whose story began in her first eponymous picture-book, returns in this second madcap adventure, this time confronting monsters. Or is she? Mabel's vision problems cause any number of misunderstandings, whether at home or at her best friends' Smarty-Cat and Scaredy-Cat's house, where she is invited to a sleepover. Fortunately, after being in the (figurative) doghouse for her shenanigans, her parents figure out that what she needs is glasses, rather than punishment...
Like its predecessor, Naughty Mabel Sees It All pairs an engaging, humorous tale from co-authors Nathan Hale and Devlin Elliott with colorful, cartoon-style artwork from illustrator Dan Krall. Unlike its predecessor, I didn't find the story here so obnoxious - in the first book, I disliked the idea that negative behavior doesn't bring consequences - and I appreciated the idea, implicit in the story, that sometimes an underlying problem like poor vision can lead to seemingly unrelated behavioral issues. I'm glad I gave this second Mabel adventure a try, after being underwhelmed by the first, as I do think it is an improvement. Recommended to anyone looking for picture-books about naughty animals, or for children's stories about needing glasses.
Everyone's favorite Frenchie is back in Naughty Mabel Sees it All by Nathan Lane and Devlin Elliott. Mabel urgently greets the reader even before page one! She wants to make sure that her side of the story gets told.
Mabel has been noticing that strange things are happening in her house. But she can't worry about that now, darlings. She has been invited to her very first sleepover! Smarty-Cat and Scaredy-Cat are ready to spend a fun-filled evening with their pooch pal.
While watching a movie with her kitty friends, Mabel sees something very disturbing. There are monsters in the house! Will she be able to protect her friends from the scary invaders? Are things really as they seem? You'll have to read the book to find out, darlings!
Nathan Lane and Devlin Elliott have done it again! I simply adore Mabel and the second installment does not disappoint. Infused with pop culture such at Martha Stewart, Google and selfie sticks, readers young and old alike will delight in Mabel's crazy antics. Dan Krall's illustrations are hilarious and adorable. My favorite illustration is on page 12 where Mabel plays dress up with her cat friends. I love all of the movie references!
I would highly recommend this book to readers of all ages. This story truly has something for everyone to enjoy. I hope that Mabel will return soon to share even more stories with her adoring public.
Naughty Mabel makes her return with this second volume, which I found a huge improvement over her first story (Nathan Lane is such a comedy genius, and for him to resort to fart humor, regardless of how funny kids will find it, left me disappointed). This time out, Mabel is seeing things, which makes her inherent naughtiness even worse, and until her parents can figure out why she's seeing things, Mabel continues to wreak havoc. Dan Krall's illustrations are perfect once again, and I'm actually now hoping that we'll be seeing more of Mabel in the future.
3.5-4. Poor Mabel - first she mistakes the potpourri for her kibble, and then she starts seeing monsters everywhere - ruining her sleepover. Why can no one else see the monsters? Cute story about glasses - with a fun attitude. Probably best for early elementary age students.
Naughty Mabel Sees it All is about a French bulldog from the Hamptons who gets herself into some trouble. She gets invited to a sleepover, and she starts to see monsters, or what she thought were monsters. Mable had double vision, and once her parents realized, they brought her to the eye doctor to get glasses. I liked this book because it shows a fun way of realizing she needed glasses. I feel like when you're younger, getting glasses is embarrassing, but this book made it fun. I would read this book in my class because it shows that having people help you figure out what's wrong is good. Mable's parents figured out why she needed glasses and helped her. If Mable didn't go to her parents, she would have kept thinking she saw monsters.
The first Naughty Mabel the girls kinda got after I explained a lot of the humor. For this one, though? All of the diva/show biz references went way over their heads and there was no explaining it.
The book is most definitely aimed at Nathan Lane's fans and not the kids, which is fine...except that we bought these in the children's department at a bookstore. The girls liked the drawings and they ended up mostly focusing on those.
Following Mabel through the book we see her go to a friend for a sleepover and unfortunately cause a mess because she is unsure of what she sees, eventually we find out that she needs glasses to be able to see clearly what is in front of her. However, even after getting glasses Mabel is still herself and continues to cause trouble. I liked this book and think that it would be a cute read-aloud for the class to just let out some giggles.

This was so incredibly funny that my nephew had me read it to him TWICE. I rarely give a 5 **** rating, but this book SO deserves it!
Mabel was invited to go spend the night at her friends' house, but gets scared when she assumes that there are monsters in the house...and makes a huge mess.
I'm pretty sure that Naughty Mabel needs her own show! Oh Netflix...
It was cute, but in that “in between” everything category. Too wordy for a great read aloud. Too many adult references for a small child. (Not adult in an I appropriate way, just things adults will find funnier than children) Too cutsie for an older child. Not quite a strong enough lesson to be used for that purpose. For me, cute, but not useful.
I love that when I read this book I can hear Nathan Lane’s voice and personality coming through. Mabel the dog has been invited for a sleepover. But after eating some potpourri she has been seeing double, and even monsters. She is going to save everyone from the monsters, as long they don’t get her first. This was a wonderfully fun story with equally enchanting illustrations.
Terrible, terrible. When will I learn to stop reading books by actors who think it's cute to write books for kids? I hope publishers will learn to stop publishing them too. I'd say that about one in a hundred are actually decent. This one is insulting, not the most insulting of its kind, but still. Ugh!
These books exude Nathan Lane's over-the-top personality and make the stories a joy to read aloud. My toddlers cannot get enough! Especially my two-year-old. He loves to sit and flip through the illustrations over and over again and always has something new to remark on or point out.
